Scope and content
Two deeds, 1570-1572, recording the conveyance of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid or Pimbremear), ultimately to the existing tenant, Howell Vaughan of Llanuwchllyn. The lake and its surrounds lay in the territory of Penllyn once owned by Ystrad Marchell Abbey and appropriated by the Crown after the dissolution. The deeds recite a grant by Queen Elizabeth in 1569/70 and the names of successive owners, London gentlemen, the last of whom conveyed the property to Vaughan; it then formed part of the Glan-llyn estate. Both deeds were contained in an envelope [c. 1945]
