Administrative history
In 1940, with an invasion of Britain by Nazi Germany seemingly imminent, Lord Beaverbrook, the British Minister for Aircraft Production, instigated a campaign to salvage waste to help the war effort. Local salvage operations were set up all over the country, and the campaign in Cardiganshire was led by the Cambrian News, a newspaper based in Aberystwyth. The documents in this collection were accumulated by the Cambrian News campaigns, and were among those papers destined for recycling, but they were retained as they were felt to have particular historical value.
