Manuscripts and rare books relating mostly to the counties of Brecknockshire and Carmarthenshire, on subjects such as history, topography and especially genealogy, 1604-1859, including a transcript of the Golden Grove Book of pedigrees and other pedigrees, relating mainly to South Wales families; 19th century transcripts and copies of letters, including some from Sir Walter Raleigh, [1624]-[1807]; lists of Carmarthenshire sheriffs and Brecknockshire Lords Lieutenant, 1809-1849; parts of original manuscripts of Theophilus Jones and William Owen Pughe, [1792]-[1805]; notebooks and scrapbooks, 1839; and various annotated printed books; and deeds and other documents, 1588-1911, relating mostly to properties in Brecknockshire (particularly in the parish of Bronllys), with a few relating to Carmarthen and Swansea.

An early seventeenth century manuscript, fragile, written c. 1611-1621 and possibly earlier by Roger Williams, clerk, rector of the parish of St. Nicholas, co. Glamorgan [the scribe of parts of Llanstephan MS 41] and containing pedigrees, Welsh poetry, medical and veterinary recipes, etc. Roger Williams [TLLM, 41n, 213-4] was the son of Roger William of Prisk [in the parish of Llanddunwyd (Welsh St. Donats)] and he married Elinor Rees [daughter of Rhys Amheurug (Rees Merrick)]: his pedigree is on p. 27 of this manuscript (cf. Llanstephan MS 41, p. 173). A folio or folios are wanting at the beginning and someone has written the words 'The Isue [sic] of Gruffydd fawr [De Radyr]' opposite the first page (p. 4). Pedigree (ff. 1-4) and achievement (f. 4), [1664x1673], of George Gwynne of Llwyn Hywel, Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, and Llanelwedd, Radnorshire, with one hundred and nineteen other coats of arms, all emblazoned and painted, probably compiled by David Edwardes, Rhyd-y-gors, Carmarthenshire.
The pedigree is traced, sometimes spuriously, from Gwyriad (fl. c. 800), father of Merfyn Frych (f. 1), Coronac, King of Dublin (4 cent.), Caradog Freichfras, earl of Hereford (?6 cent.), Drew de Ballon, 'baron of Abergavenny' (11 cent.), Drym[benog] ap Maenyrch (fl. c. 1100), and Gwrydr Hir (?10 cent.), of Dryslwyn (all f. 2).

A volume in the hand of J. H. Davies, with a few additions by Thomas Iorwerth Ellis, containing mainly pedigrees, extracts from wills and other documents, and notes relating to Cardiganshire families, with a few pedigrees of families from the counties of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire (Charles, Phillips, and Wogan). T. I. Ellis's additions relate mainly to the pedigree of J. H. Davies's family and the connected families of Charles and Phillips. There are also extracts from Llanddewi Brefi parish registers, mainly relating to the Rowland family, and pedigrees and notes relating to the Rowland family (pp. 208-217), a list of Cardiganshire manors (pp. 45-7) and lists (pp. 122-142) of officials (beadles, etc.) of Cardiganshire manors, 1317-1444 (with gaps). The original title of the volume was 'Beirdd Ceredigion yn y Canol Oesoedd' but it contains transcripts of only two poems viz. 'Cywydd i ddioddefaint Christ (sic) ...' ('Y grog aur droediog drydoll') by Ieuan ap Rytherch ap Ieuan Llwyd, transcribed from BM Add. MSS 14866, and an 'awdl' in praise of Rhydderch ap Ieuan Llwyd 'o ywch ayronn' ('Dy annerch Rydderch vab rieddawg - hael') by Daio dy (sic), transcribed from BM Stowe MSS 959.

Photocopies, [1969]-[1970], of papers, including a pedigree (f. 1), relating to the family of David Griffiths of Glanmeilwch, Gwynfe, Carmarthenshire, missionary to Madagascar.
They were part of an exhibition by Llandeilo Civic Trust Society in August 1969, and also include items relating to Glynhir School, Llandyfan, Llandybie (ff. 8-13). A covering letter by the donor, 21 December 1970, is f. 14.

A volume containing 'Copies of Correspondence [1818-1821] which passed between the Revd. John Collier Jones of Exeter College, Oxford, afterwards Rector of that College, and the Revd. Daniel Jones, Rector of Ruckinge, near New Romney in Kent, relative to the Pedigree and Coat of Arms belonging to the family of Llanio, in Cardiganshire, of which estate the said Daniel Jones had then become the reversionary proprietor, and from which family both of them were descendants'; and pedigrees from transcripts made by J. J. Lloyd Williams, M.A., among them being 'Pedigrees of all the Gentry in the Counties of Cardigan, Carmarthen and Pembroke, faithfully transcribed from a manuscript of the late Mr. William Lewes of Llwynderw, by Sylvanus Jones, Dec. 8th 1760'. A notebook containing abstracts of wills and compiled pedigrees based thereon, largely pertaining to families in cos. Carmarthen and Pembroke. The volume is labelled 'Wills. Trelech &c.', and the greater part of the material relates to families in the parish of Trelech a'r Betws, e.g., Thomas of Rhosychen, Martin, Thomas of Nantyrafruwcha, Thomas of Parcybedw, Thomas of Treto, Twmpath, Cluntwmpath, and Llwyncrwn, John of Godredewi, Griffith of Blaengwelltog, Morgans of Rhosychen, Francis of Plasparke, Thomas of Gelly, Thomas of Pantronow, Francis of Plasparke, Morris of Pantronow, Rees of Penyceire, John of Perthygwenyn, Rees of Plasyparke, etc. Among other families recorded in the volume are Rees and Pryse of Rhydarbenne and Francis and Lloyd of Pantgilgane, parish of Llangeler, Hall of Begelly, etc., and White of St. Twinnels, etc. The pedigrees are supported in some cases by extracts from parish registers. At the end is a list of contents.

Three volumes containing 'A History of the Town and County of Caermarthen' by 'Cyfrangwr', i.e., Alcwyn C. Evans. The work was awarded the prize and a gold medal at the National Eisteddfod at Carmarthen, 1867. It is divided into sections with the following headings: Preface; (i) Its ancient and present name and boundaries; (ii) Its rivers, lakes, and mountains; (iii) Its historical summary; [iv] The Town of Caermarthen. Volume III is an Appendix consisting of a genealogy of Sir Thomas Jones, Abermarlais; 'The Gentry of Caermarthenshire living in 1602' ('as given by Geo. Owen'); extracts from documents relating to places in the town and county of Carmarthen; the parliamentary representation of the town and county of Carmarthen; an abstract of a charter of King Henry III to Meredydd ab Rhys, 1257; a rent-roll of the town of Carmarthen, 1575; extracts from Leland's Itinerary; excerpts from the Liber Landavensis and The Book of St. Chad; a chart of the genealogy of the Welsh Princes; transcripts of oaths of the mayor, bailiffs, and constable; a transcript of a 'cywydd' written by Griffith Llwyd ap David ab Einion Lygliw on the trial of Morgan ab Davydd ab Llewelyn of Rhydodin (Edwinsford) in Caio, circa 1390, with an English translation; an English translation of the charter granted by Sir Guy de Brian, kt., to the burgesses of Laugharne (early 14th cent); and an 'Index to the County'.

A manuscript containing Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire and Carmarthenshire pedigrees (ff. 1-76, 80-87); the beginning of the Welsh Laws (ff. 77-79); and a table of the contents of ff. 17-76b (f. 80).
Ff. 17-76b, 80-80b are in the hand of George Owen of Henllys (see f. 59) and are dated 1577-1599; ff. 77-79b are in a later hand; ff. 83-86b belong to 1684; f. 87 is in the autograph of the Reverend Samuel Williams; and ff. 1-16b are in an eighteenth century hand.

A volume containing 'An English Pedegree & Genealogy of The Gentry of the Counties of Cardigan Carmarthen & Pembrock In Three Bookes with a table to Each of Them, Together with their Arms ffixt to Each Pedegree'. It was written in 1739 and was apparently copied from the same source as Peniarth MS. 156, which was published in West Wales Historical Records, vol. I, pp. 3-96, vol. II, pp. 1-96. Most of the pedigrees are taken down to 1739, but there are additions and insets in later hands to 1769, and one inset in the hand of W[illiam] G[wynne] S[tedman] T[homas of Carmarthen]. At the end of the volume, originally in the form of loose leaves, are notes of births, marriages, and deaths, 1695-1769, of members of the families of Lloyd of Cilgwyn and Coedmor and Lewes of Troedyraur, co. Cardigan.
