Letters and papers of George Stephens, goaler and governor of the House of Correction of the county of Carmarthen. They include a notice of promotion to be one of the Inspectors of the Metropolitan Police Force, 29 April, 1844; an invitation, 14 August, 1847, under the signatures of magistrates of the county of Carmarthen, to discharge the duty of goaler till the Quarter Sessions; a certificate of good conduct in the Metropolitan Police Force, 1 September, 1847; a holograph letter, 4 November, 1847, from Charles Bishop, Llandovery, enclosing a copy of the order for the recipient's appointment as county gaoler and governor; eighteen holograph letters, 4-17 November, 1854, from visiting magistrates of Carmarthenshire and others, supporting his application for a similar post in the county of Middlesex; a printed statement of accounts, 21 January, 1870, between George Stephens, late treasurer, and the members and congregation of Zion Calvinistic Church, Carmarthen; a printed 'in memoriam' card of David Price Davies of Pumpsaint, 1874; and a holograph letter, 17 November [1876] from C. H. Spurgeon, Clapham.
