Letter from Principal E. H. Griffiths to Professor Gilbert Murray of the Board of Education. Griffiths returns the statement sent by Murray on 23 Feb, signed by himself on behalf of the Senate. Statement not in archive. Notes that resolutions of Senate are not valid until confirmed by the University Court, which only meets twice a year. Add that Senate were 'unanimously in favour of helping the project in every way', and is confident that the Court will take the same position. Will ask the Executive Committee of the Court to take action on behalf of the Court, in their upcoming meeting on 20 Apr.

Roberts of 13 Mar was forwarded to himself as present holder of the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales. Informs that he has signed the statement sent by Professor Gilbert Murray on 23 Feb. Notes that resolutions of Senate are not valid until confirmed by the University Court, which will not meet until July. He reports that the Board will be applying the procedure of Circular 931, 26 Nov 1916 (Special Provision respecting Advanced Students of Science & Technology). Selby-Bigge encloses a form for completion by any University teacher of advanced physical science and technology, who is engaged in work relevant to the war effort, the interruption of which would be detrimental to the public interest. His case for exemption from call up under the Derby Scheme would be considered by Lord Derby. Shorthand annotations.

Asks for confirmation that the same process will not need to be followed for Engineering staff, given that the Department of Engineering's workshops are entirely given over to the manufacture of shell gauges.
