Twenty-eight holograph letters and a fragment of another, 1728-1764, of the Morrises of Anglesey and their circle, the correspondents being Rhist. Morys, London (4), Llywelin Deheubarth (1), Edward Hughes, Aberystwyth and Gallt Vadog (5), Lewis Morris, London and Galltvadog (10), [Goronwy Owen] 'Gronwy Ddu', Llundain (1), Margt. Owen, Pentrerianell (5), Wm Morris, Caer Gybi Sant (1), an unnamed correspondent, Llanvayr Clwydogau (1), and Richd. Morris, Rhydyraderyn (1). All these letters have been published except possibly that of Rich[ar]d Morris, Rhydyraderyn (1764), and a chronological list with references has now been inserted in the volume. Most of the letters have been published in Additional Letters of the Morrises of Anglesey (1735-1786), ed. Hugh Owen (Y Cymmrodor, Vol. XLIX, Part II (1949). They are followed by copies of letters written to [Hugh Hughes] Hugh ap Hugh, Llwydiarth Esgob by John Thomas [d. 1769], Bangor and Bewmaris [sic], 1764-7 (3), and Rhist. Morys, Llundain, 1760-70 (4, one possibly holograph). At the end of the volume are items of verse by various authors, including S. W., Owen Gruffydd, John Roderick, Sion Onest, 1736, Hugh Morris, Ellis Cadwaladr and Evan Williams 'Telynior yn Llundain' (a translation of 'Lovely Peggy').

A holograph manuscript of David (Dafydd) Samwell ('Dafydd Ddu Feddyg', 1751-98). The volume was compiled during and immediately after the period 1788-9 and contains a draft of 'A short Account of the Life and Writings of Hugh (Huw) Morris [of Pontymeibion, Llansilin]'; poetry in strict and free metres by Huw Morys, Edward Samuel (Llangar), Thomas Edwards ('Twm o'r Nant'), Edward Llwyd, Elis Edwards, William Wynne (Llanganhafal), Hugh Jones (Llangwm), David Samwell, John Lloyd ('Vicar Llandrillo'), Daniel Davies (London), [John Roderick] 'Sion Rhydderch', Gryffydd ap Ivan ap Llewelyn Fychan, and Edwd. Morris; 'Memoranda' recording the death and burial, 1748-80, of members of the family of Samuel; a transcript of a letter from Thos. A volume almost entirely in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen largely containing poetry ('cywyddau', 'englynion', etc.) by Rowland Williams, Sion Philip, Guttun Owen, William Philip, Dr John Kent, Dafydd ap E[dmwnt], Edmwnt Prys, Robin Ddu o Fon, James Dwnid [recte Dwnn], Thom. Williams (1817), Iolo Goch, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Taliesin, Davydd ap Gwilim, Huw Arwystl, Hugh Morris, Edward Morris, Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], [David Richards, 'Dewi Silin'], Robert Parry (Eglwys fach), David Rowlands (Plas Isa, Dolgelley), Rev. D. Davies (Castle Caereinion), John Parry, Robert Davies (Nantglyn) and Hu ap Ier. ap Robert, and anonymous poems. Among other items included are a code of manners ('Dysg Vanners dda'); a pedigree of Oliver Cromwell; a drawing and a description of a brass object discovered at Hen fryn fawr near Caersiws [sic], Montgomeryshire, 1808, 'Teilyn[g]dod a theithi yr Iaith Gymraeg', etc. [from Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'): Cyfrinach Beirdd Ynys Prydain (Abertawy, 1829)]; and a diagram illustrating the civil order and the ecclesiastical order of the months. Much of the volume appears to have been written during the period 1817-18 but there are some personal and other memoranda dated to 1857. Some of the items appear to have been copied from NLW MS 2691 ('Llyfr Pant Phillip').

A manuscript largely in the hand of Margaret Davies, Coetgae-du, Trawsfynydd, being a collection of 'cywyddau', a few 'awdlau', several 'englynion', and a few 'cerddi' and other poems in free metres. (Londini, 1632), and extensive elaborate calligraphic exercises partly in the form of transcripts of documents associated with the name of Griffith Vaughan of Pool [Montgomeryshire], 1647 and undated. Many of the pages containing calligraphic exercises, as in the case of some of the manuscripts of John Jones, ?Gellifydy, are damaged on account of the corrosive nature of the ink used by the scribe.

John Davies, Antiquae Linguae Britannicae .... et Linguae Latinae Dictionarium Duplex (London, 1632), with marginal insertions and with additional texts at the beginning and the end partly in the hand of Robert Vaughan (1592?-1666), Hengwrt, Merionethshire. The additions include '15 qual[i]ties of a good horse', 'Pymth[eg] cynneddf march da', 'Am yr Attaliadau. A'u Gwir Ddeunydd' ('Y mae chwe mâth o attaliadau mewn Llyfrau printiedig ac mewn Yscrifen ... '), two 'englynion' by John Davies in a copy of his dictionary presented to Rolant Vychan of Caergai, 'An admonition for the reading of the British words', 'Geiriau or Un Swn ac nid o'r un Feddwl', and 'The Numbers, Names, qualities, Royalties, Footings, Degrees of Age etc. of Beasts of the Forests according as they are termed of skillfull Forresters and Woodmen' (the latter from John Guillim, A Display of Heraldrie). On the inside lower cover is a paste-down of the certificate of subscription, 20 March 1767, by Thomas Owen of Jesus College, Oxford [rector of Upton Scudamore, Wiltshire, from 1779 until his death in 1812.].

A collection of poetry almost entirely in free metres entitled 'Casgliad o Gerddi a Charolau ar amryw Destynau O waith amriw Feirdd Cymru'. The manuscript is in the hand of David Ellis, Cricieth, and was written around 1790-1. The poets represented are Arthur Jones ('Clochydd Llan Gadwaladr yn swydd Ddinbych') (1743-56), Morys Roberts (Bala), Huw Thomas (Llandderfel) (1729, 1752), David Ellis (1757-91), Huw Morys, Ellis Rowland (Harlech), William Wynne ('Person Llangynhafal') (1745), Richard Parry ('Athraw Ysgol yn Niwbwrch'), Ellis Cadwaladr (Edeirnion) (1718), Ellis ab Ellis ('Gweinidog Eglwys Rhos a Llan Dudno') (1683), Iolo ap Ieuan, Edward Morris, Edward Jones (Bodffari), Rhys Ellis ('o'r Waun'), David Jones otherwise 'Dafydd hir o Lanfair Talhaiarn', Griffith Edward, Morgan Llwyd (Maentwrog), Edward Samuel ('Person Llangarw gwyn'), and Evan Herbert ('Gweinidog Llan Illtud a Llan Fachreth'). A volume of sermons, including funeral sermons, preached during the period 1642-1663 at Mold ('apud Montem Altum'), Llangynocke, Llaneurgayn, Llanvyllyn, Pennant, Langwm, Lann Rayder?, Beryw (Berew), Gwyddelwern, Llanwythyn, and Llwydiarth, together with prayers, among them being 'A prayer & Thanksgivinge [for the success of Prince Rupert] to bee vsed in the churches of North Wales 1644', and some later additions. On one of the fly-leaves is a stanza in 'triban' metre to the curate of Llan Gwstennyn.

A volume of poetry in strict and free metre in the autograph of John Roberts ('Siôn Lleyn') entitled 'Gemmau yr Awen sef Casgliad o Waith John ab Robert Neu Siôn Lleyn 1783' and described by him as 'Gwaith boreu fy oes, tra anmherffaith a llawer wedy ei Adsgrif o hono ai Drwsiau - pasiwch heibio ir gwallau yw Dymuniad J. Roberts'. Other poets represented are Walter Davies, Robert Prichard, Melin Sôch ('Robin 'r Aber'), J. Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.

Many of the items have been crossed out (although they can still be read) and pp. 67-8 and 86 of the transcript appear to be wanting. There are a few notes in pencil by J. H. Davies.
