Inset at the end of the volume are transcripts of Montgomeryshire pedigrees, etc. Much of the material in the volume has been transcribed from other volumes now in the Cwrtmawr Collection (e.g. MSS 200, 222, 242 and 243) and there are references to such sources as 'un o lyfrau Maesglas Mallwyd' (transcribed in 1857) (p. 269), a manuscript in the hand of Robert Arthur (p. 342), 'Llyfr ym meddiant Lowri Jones' (p. 380), etc. A note pasted on the inside of the upper cover states 'This Vol. was copied by Owen Jones (brother of Myrddin Fardd) from a MS Vol. ... in the handwriting of Lewis Morris [Cwrtmawr MS 200] now at Bryntanad, Llanerfyl Montgomerys[hire] (Richards) E. Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.

A composite volume from the collection of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') written in several hands of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and comprising ten main sections: (I) The first section (pp. 1-121 and some unnumbered items) contains poetry by Tomas Edwards Nant, S[ion] Owen, [David Owen] 'Dewi Wyn Eifion' [sic] and (mainly) Robert Williams ('Robert ap Gwilym Ddu'), some possibly in his autograph. Other items include a list of books ('Catalek of all ye books that I Have'), some accounts headed 'Cost Capel garn talwyd' and 'heb Daly am Capel garn', observations entitled 'Lwybr Dyn neu Ysdyriaethau ar bedair rhan oes Dyn' by Robert Williams, a letter, 1845, from Ellis Owen, Cefn y Meusydd, to Mr Robert Williams, Bard, Bettws fawr, Llanystumdwy, containing verses by Robert ab Gwilym Ddu entitled 'Pererindod o'r Aipht i Ganaan; and a list of poems by ['Robert ap Gwilym Ddu']. There are also some press cuttings and other additions by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). (Ii) A memoir of David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion') by and in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion'). (Iii) Miscellaneous items including 'Pymtheg Llwyth Gwynedd', poetry by Huw Llwyd Cynfal, Dafydd ap Sion and y Parchedig Mr Goronwy Owen o Fôn, and draft of a letter from 'Dyngarydd' [?David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion') ] to Mr Gomer' [? for Seren Gomer ], and 'A Memorandum Book' in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') containing notes on natural history, etc. in English transcribed from various printed sources. (Iv) Notes in Welsh in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') on theological subjects including extracts from 'Patrick's Places' i.e. the work of Patrick Hamilton, followed by short accounts of Phoenicia, Palestine, Assyria, Babylon, etc. (V) An incomplete poem entitled 'Carol Plygain am Bwrcas Crist tros eu [sic] Ddyweddi ...... (Vi) Two items in the autograph of John Thomas ('Siôn Wyn o Eifion') entitled 'Cyfrifiad byr am amryw o enwau neu Sectau a ymddangosasant yn y byd' (? incomplete) and 'Ateb i rai holiadau, mewn Llythyr oddi wrth yr Ysgrifennydd at ei ewythr John Roberts', which last item includes observations by Michael Roberts on one of the questions. (Vii) This section consists of sixteen pages and one loose folio. The first fourteen pages are in the autograph of William Elias, c. 1731-44, and contain poetry by Evan ap Llywelyn Vychan (beginning wanting), D. Parry, William Elias, J. Rhydderch, Owen Griffiths and D[afydd] N[anmor]. The next two pages contain verses in English by Gr: Lloyd and the loose folio contains 'englynion', one by Moris ap Evan ap Dafydd ['Morus Dwyfech']. A note at the foot of p. 9 reads 'Oed ein harglwydd, pan dorwyd, y ffordd y mynydd Bwlch Derwin gynta, 1739, y rhan isa, ai gorphen: Mehefin 18: 1740: Wm Ellias, a Griffith Davidd o fodychen, overseers', and there is a recipe for making ink on p. 10. (Viii) 'Englynion' by Edward Charles and a number of Welsh hymns (author's name not given). (Ix) This section is in the autograph of John Roberts [?'Siôn Lleyn'], 1767, and contains poetry by Roger Thomley, Michel Prichiard, Sion Thomas Bod-edern, Gwen Arthur, William Elias, Owen Griffith, John Philip, John Roberts, Hugh Roberts, Thomas Jones, Rich[ar]d Parry niwbwrch, ? W. Ell... and John Rogar [sic]. (X) Veterinary and other recipes, mainly in Welsh.

A volume originally used largely by the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen as an account book, 1821-6, of the Darowen Auxiliary of the Society for Promoting Christianity among the Jews ('Cymdeithas Gynnorthwyol ir Iuddewon' or 'Cyfaill Israel'). The Auxiliary Society was established on 12 January 1821 and the account book contains rules, lists of officers, particulars of individual subscriptions (and of collections previously made during the period 1816-20), and copies of letters of acknowledgment of annual contributions to the parent Society. The remainder, and by far the greater part, of the volume was subsequently used largely by Mary Richards to record transcripts of 'carolau', 'englynion', 'cywyddau', hymns, etc. by Hugh Jones (Maesglase), W. There are references in the volume to a number of manuscript sources, viz. p. 59 'o Lyfr Edward Jones Gwernphilip Llan Badarn fawr Sir Aberteifi', p. 107 'Copiwyd allan o hen lyfr Moelyrch 1868', p. 132 [recte 232] 'o Lyfr Llangadfan, and p. 237 'o Lyfr Llangadfan, neu Garth Beibio'.

Transcripts by Mary Richards, Darowen of carols, hymns, etc. by [Robert Roberts] 'Robin Meirion' (1827), Thomas Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Rowlan[d] Hugh ('r cryenin'), Arthur Jones, Hugh Jones (Maesglasau), Dafydd Harris and D. Silvan Evans ('Hirlas'), and anonymous compositions. The scribe's name on the fly-leaf is dated 1873. Beginning from the end, in another hand, are undated measurements of a house and farm buildings, etc.

A collection of poetry, etc. largely in the hand of David Jones. Examples of the scribe's signatures in the manuscript are dated 1704 and 1708 and the volume may therefore be attributed approximately to this period. It comprises 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'Ymddiddanion' and a 'cywydd' by T. Ed[wards], Hugh Morris, Cad[wala]dr Roberts and Thomas Maurice, together with anonymous poems; a few medical recipes; a table, undated, of the phases of the moon; an account, undated, of monies received [in the Llansilin area]; and a presentment of Edward Jones and Roger Lewis, churchwardens of the parish of Llanarmon mynydd mawr, 1705.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', 'penillion', etc. in free metres by Hugh Moris and Rogiar Jones and numerous anonymous poems and scraps of verse. Also included are a rental of chief rents of Cynlleth yr Iarll and a rental of the tithe of Llangadwalader, Denbighshire, both undated, and a medical recipe. A note by Dafydd Marpole in Cwrtmawr MS 225, p. 86 attributes the present manuscript to the last quarter of the seventeenth century. Among later additions to the volume are holograph 'englynion' by Joseph Marpole ('yn llegys'), 1779. The spine is lettered 'Gwaith H. Morys a Roger Jones'.

The collection was begun probably in 1788.

Bound in at the end of the volume is an original power of attorney, 1674, of Oliver Thomas of Shewsbury [sic], Salop, yeoman, authorising his brother Thomas Rees of Llanymowthwey, Montgomeryshire, yeoman, to sue or to compound persons subscribed for specified debts (backed for the purpose of repairing by a printed prospectus of Robert Davies ('Bardd Nantglyn'): [Diliau Barddas, Dinbych, 1827]). The manuscript is written in several hands, among them that of Richard Foulks.

The volume is in the hand of Huw Jones, Llangwm, with a few later additions by Elizabeth Maurice and by Mary Richards, Darowen. It belonged to Thomas Powel, 1804, and Martha Powel, 1805, and also bears the names of Henry Powel, 1756, John Jones, carpenter, Pentregayr [Oswestry] and Martha Edwards.
