Diaries of Geraint Dyfnallt Owen, comprising diary entries in Welsh, 9-23 January 1928, as an undergraduate student at Aberystwyth (MS 23325B); diaries, mainly in English, 8 February-3 December 1931, while at Oxford (MSS 23326B-23327A, the latter also including an account of a visit to Brittany, 23 July-7 September 1931); and diaries spanning the period spent as a Research Fellow of UCW, Aberystwyth, 1932-1936 (MSS 23328-23333A), and as a member of staff of the BBC in Cardiff and Swansea, 1937-1938 (MSS 23334-23336B) and London, 1940-1941 (MS 23337B). This last diary, written in Welsh, contains a commentary on the progress of the Second World War, including the background to certain events and forecasts concerning their outcome.

Papers, 1897-1994, of Geraint Dyfnallt Owen mainly comprising correspondence and travel journals reflecting Owen's involvement with Welsh and European history, politics and culture. There are also letters, 1929-1951, to and from Owen and his parents the Rev. and Mrs John Dyfnallt Owen. Letters from Breton cultural and religious leader Jean-Marie (Yann-Vari) Perrot, donated with other papers by Dr Geraint Dyfnallt Owen in 1979, have been incorporated in this group (NLW MS 23322D).

A journal of a tour in Germany and Poland, July 1939, undertaken by Geraint Dyfnallt Owen and his parents. Centred mainly on Danzig (Gdansk), it contains comments on the political climate, including the situation regarding the Jews.

Letters of J. M. Perrot

Some sixty letters and cards, 1927-39, to Geraint Dyfnallt Owen, mostly from the Abbé Jean-Marie (Yann-Vari) Perrot (1877-1943), Breton cultural and religious leader, but also including letters, 1933-9, from his secretary Henri Caouissin. As well as containing personal news the letters include references to nationalism in Brittany and to prominent political activists.

Mostly written between 1939 and 1946, they provide a record of his wartime experiences while working for the BBC in London, 1939-42, and of the period spent as a member of the Armed Forces, based in Romania, during and after the Second World War.
