Dernyn[n]au Salmau, &c.,

A bundle of loose papers contains hymns, largely crossed out, by Iolo Morganwg. One sheet which Iolo Morganwg has used contains printed Proposals for printing by subscription, the Celtic Remains... By the late Lewis Morris, esq: And augmented By Walter Davies, of All Souls College, Oxford.

Salmau Iolo Morganwg,

'Salmau Iolo Morganwg, Rhann I, yn adgyweiriedig, sef y rhai na chymmerwyd i'r Llyfr Argraphedig [i.e., Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch, Cyfrol I (Merthyr Tydfil, 1812)], Hyd Rif [CXXX].' This volume was apparently meant to replace Part I in the series numbered 48-57 (NLW MSS 21336-45A) (see note inside front cover). The numbers on a slip of paper in the autograph of Taliesin Williams, continued inside the back cover, refer to the Salmau from this volume which were included in Cyfrol II (1834).

Salmau Iolo Morganwg,

A collection of hymns by, and in the autograph of, Iolo Morganwg, in ten parts. Part I is dated 1800. The 'Salmau' are numbered consecutively from I-MXCI [i.e. 1-1091], and those with a stroke through them have been copied either into No. 60, 'Y Brasnadd Bach' (NLW MS 21348A) or into Nos 64-65 (NLW MSS 21352-3A). A number such as '70. 2' refers to No. 65. A note dated Aug. 7, 1826, found inside Part IV (NLW MS 21339A), gives the total number of 'Salmau' composed by Iolo Morganwg, with the number in each volume.
The 'Salmau' are arranged as follows: Nos 1-60 (21336A), 61-141 (21337A), 142-227 (21338A), 228-304 (21339A), 305-390 (21340A), 391-486 (21341A), 487-644 (21342A), 645-811 (21343A), 812-948 (21344A), and 949-1091 (21345A).

Salmau Iolo Morganwg,

Collections of hymns by Iolo Morganwg designated by him as follows: 'Y Brasnadd Mawr' - 255 hymns (NLW MS 21347A); 'Y Brasnadd bach' - 112 hymns; at the end is the following note: 'Diwedd y Brasnadd bach, Mawrth 21fed, 1817, Dydd Gwyl yr Alban Eilir, cyfenw (cyfamser) a Dydd genedigaeth Iolo Morganwg' (NLW MS 21348A); 'Arwyreiniau' - 330 items (NLW MS 21349A); 'Casgliad Merthyr. 1821.' - 70 hymns (NLW MS 21350A); 'Casgledydd garw. 1820' - 62 hymns (NLW MS 21351A).

Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch,

The manuscript of Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch, Cyfrol I (Merthyr Tydfil, 1812). The printed volume contains 204 hymns: the last in the manuscript collection is numbered CC. The preface appears to correspond to the printed copy except that the last paragraph but one is wanting here: there is also another draft of a preface dated 'Trefflemin, neu fal ai gelwid gynt Llanfihangel y Twyn, gerllaw'r Bont faen ym Morganwg Alban Hefin 1811' (found elsewhere among the papers). The index which appears to be a draft is to the printed volume and not to the manuscript.

Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch, Cyfrol II,

'Salmau yr Eglwys yn yr Anialwch (Cyfrol II)...'. In the note, dated 7 August 1826, in NLW MS 21339A Iolo Morganwg refers to this volume thus: 'Gweler ym mhrifddarpar yr ail gyfrol 74' [i.e. Salmau]. The collection is similar to, but not identical with, the first pages of the second volume published by Taliesin Williams in 1834: there are some hymns in the MS which are not in the printed volume, and vice versa. There is also a draft of the beginning of a preface (to be found elsewhere).
