A manuscript in the hand of Ieuan Fardd containing translations of the songs of Llywarch Hên, with accompanying notes (pp. 5-19); notes on Welsh and Shropshire place-names, some taken from the work of Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt (pp. 19-36); 'Extracts apparently from the English Chronicle' (pp. 37-44); parallel quotations from Llywarch Hen and Shakespeare (pp. 45-46); a translation of Cynddelw's 'Song of Eva daughter of Madawc the son of Maredudd' (pp. 55-56); an index to the Red Book of Hergest (pp. 57-74); a Welsh-English vocabulary, dating from 1542 (pp. 75-128); and a list of Welsh words compared with allied forms in Latin, Gothic, etc. (pp. 129-133).

A volume lettered on the spine 'Papers concerning Caermarthen'. It contains transcripts of the records of the county borough of Carmarthen, 1581/2-1610, 1738-1835, and transcripts and/or English translations of the charters of Carmarthen, 1546-1604, and Kidwelly, 1357-1618; the opinion of Mr. [ ] Cason, Thomas Mallet, and Edward Mallet, undated, touching the right of a county magistrate to intermeddle with the internal affairs of the borough of Kidwelly; a note of searches made for the endowment and terrier of the church of Kidwelly; particulars of fees paid for the charter of 1618 of Kidwelly; a lithograph of St. Peter's Church, Carmarthen, drawn by C. W. and published by Messrs. White & Sons, Carmarthen; the opinion of Henry Wm. Hewlett, 34 Great James Street, Bedford Row [London], 1840, touching the tithes of the vicarage of Saint Peter's, Carmarthen; a map of the dioceses of St. Davids and Llandaff; transcripts of entries relating to the diocese of St. Davids from Valor Ecclesiasticus, 1536, and Taxatio Ecclesiastica, 1291; a transcript of Janus Caecilius Frey: Philosophia Druidarum (Paris, 1646); abstracts of deeds and documents, 1641-1797, among the Highmead (Lampeter) estate records relating to the families of Evans of Achaeth Isa, Llansawel, etc., and Williams of Abercothi, etc., together with an accompanying pedigree; 'A short view of the long life of that ever wise, valiaunt, and fortunate commander Rice ap Thomas. . .' There is an 'Index', or more correctly a detailed list of contents, at the beginning of the volume, and a brief classification of contents, printed on a vellum panel, is laid on the upper cover.

The volume was bound by Lewis Edward for Lewis David in 1762. The first thirty pages are entitled 'the compleat horseman And exbert farrier'. The poetry appears to have been transcribed c. 1791-5, possibly by Peter Bailey Williams, from other manuscripts (mention is made of copying from manuscripts in the hand of Dd. Ellis, Person Crickaeth, Evan Evans, Prydydd Hir, and Lewis Morris). The text is imperfect in places, and there are some later additions, including an English translation by Peter B. Williams of 'Marwnad Lleucu Llwyd' by Llywelyn Goch ap Meurig hên and 'englynion' copied by P. B. W[illiams] in Lampeter churchyard, August 1817. Several folios have been removed at the end of the volume but the pagination is continuous.

At the beginning of the volume is a list of contents ('Cynhwysiad'), an index ('Mynegres egwyddorawl') of first lines, and an index of poets ('Enwau'r Beirdd'). The greater part of the volume is based on manuscripts of Dr Griffith Roberts (1735-1808), Dolgellau (Peniarth MSS 99, 100, ?152) and on 'Cronfa Dafydd Thomas, alias Dafydd Ddu o'r Yri' (Cwrtmawr MS 72). There are annotations and additions by Owen Williams, Waunfawr, Peter Bailey Williams, Llanrug and one annotation by D[aniel] S[ilvan] Evans. The manuscript is bound uniformly with Cwrtmawr MSS 10-11 and the spine is lettered 'Dafydd Ellis MS'.
