A volume containing four sermons largely in the hand of the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen.

Pregethau,

A volume (384 pp.) containing notes of sermons. There is no indication of authorship or ownership and no evidence to show when or where the sermons were delivered. At the beginning is a list of contents and on the lower end paper some observations on baptism.

'Amryw' and sermon notes,

A composite ('Amryw') volume of early nineteenth century printed Welsh texts (ballads, minor tracts etc.) with thirty-six pages of manuscript sermon or expository notes in Welsh and English.

Typewritten notes headed 'Nodiadau o Lyfr Mawr John Hughes, Llwyn, Llanrhaiadr', listing the names of [Calvinistic Methodist] preachers who had preached on specified dates during the period 1828-1863 in various places in North Wales including Abergele, Bala, Cerig y Drudion, Dinbych, Henllan, Rhuthin, etc., with the texts of their sermons.

Richards family of Darowen,

Sermon and scriptural notes, [?1818]-[?1848], of the Rev. Thomas Richards 'Junior' (1785-1855) of Darowen etc. Some of the notes may derive from other members of the Richards family, including the Rev. Richard Richards (1780-1860) of Caerwys. The sermons were preached at various Montgomeryshire parishes including Caerwys, Darowen, Llangynyw, Meifod and Welshpool.

Rev. William Thomas,

Sermon and scriptural notes, [?1845]-[?1870], of the Rev. William Thomas, and other stray items which include a will, 1769, of a testator from Bwlch, parish Merthyr [Elfed], county Carmarthen; an interleaved copy of a book on William Cobbett; a diary for 1852 bearing entries for the period April to August; and notes on Sunday schools, education etc. There is also an essay on agriculture, 1832, by Samuel Roberts, prepared for publication by Robert Jones, the Albion Press, and notes on music, including an essay, 1865, by William Thomas on the Tonic Solfa System.

Diaries of Edmund Jones, Pontypool

Eleven printed diaries (Poor Robin, Merlinus Liberatus, Merlinus Anglicus junior, The Coelestial Atlas, Tymhorol ac Wybrenawl Newyddion) for the years 1729, 1731, 1732, 1739, 1768, 1770, 1773 (2), 1778, 1780, and 1789 kept by Edmund Jones (1702-1793), of The Tranch, Pontypool, Independent minister; the entries include texts of sermons, names of places at which sermons were preached, lists of persons received into communion, sums given to charity, 'benevolences' received, horoscopic diagrams, details of books bought or lent, 'sayings and doings of erroneous men', accounts relating to the printing of the diarist's A Relation of Apparitions of Spirits in the Principality of Wales, published in 1780, references to Miles Harry, Howell Harris, and William Williams, Pantycelyn, and to the followers of Daniel Rowland, Llangeitho, etc.

Christmas Evans

A small notebook kept by Christmas Evans (1766-1838), Baptist minister. Described on the inside of the front cover as 'Llyfr yn Cynhwys cyfrif o'r gasgl a ddygwyd ymlaen trwy y Deheudir gan C[hristmas] E[vans] a J[ohn] R[oberts] yn y flwyddyn 1815 [?]', the volume contains a copy of a resolution passed at a meeting in Llanerchymedd, November 14, 1815, relating to sums collected and expended by Christmas Evans in both North and South Wales, together with sermons and notes.
