Pen-carn (Basaleg) deeds

Original bundle of deeds and papers relating to a messuage and lands (36 a.) in the parish of Basaleg, Monmouthshire, bought by John Morgan of Ruperra from William Morgan of Pencarn, yeoman, and Anne his wife in 1783 for £591, and to copyhold land (3 a.) in the manor of Cogan Fleming, part of Pencarn canol Farm in the parish of Basaleg, conveyed in fee simple to John Morgan of Dderw, Breconshire, esq., in 1783. The deeds include the marriage settlement of Henry Morgan of Pencarn, yeoman, and Sarah his wife, 1721, and the papers include a schedule of deeds, 1721-1758.

Original bundle of deeds relating to two parcels of land (12 a.) in the parish of Basaleg, Monmouthshire, abutting the road from Newport to Rogerstone Works, purchased by Sir Charles Morgan in 1811 from Peter Rigby, late of Roath Court, Glamorganshire, but now of Pillgwenlli, Monmouthshire, esq. The deeds include the post-nuptial settlement of Henry Jones of Basaleg, gent., and Margaret his wife, of a messuage or mansion house called Gwerne Gwye (30 a.) and a m. and lands (8 Welsh acres) (described), 1642, and a map of two pieces of land, 1811.

Neuadd wen (Basaleg and Llanfihangel-y-fedw) deeds

Original bundle of deeds and papers relating to Neuadd wen (16 a.) in the parishes of Basaleg and Llanfihangel-y-fedw, Monmouthshire, purchased in 1833 by Sir Charles Morgan of Tredegar from Joseph Latch of Newport, gent. The papers include a copy of the will of John Morgan of Llandaf, gent., 1805, printed particulars of the estate of John Wood, including Neuadd wen, to be sold by auction under a commission of bankrupt, 1824, an abstract of title, 1805-1825, and affadavits relating to the farm, 1834.

Original bundle of deeds relating to freehold and copyhold premises in the manor of Rogerstone and parish of Basaleg, Monmouthshire, sold by Timothy Lewis, late of Builth but now of London, saddler, only son and customary heir of Sarah Lewis (nee Williams), dec., and others, to Sir Charles Morgan.

Church Field (Basaleg) lease

A demise for 500 years by Charles Cumming of London, esq., and Catherine his wife, to Sir Charles Morgan of Tredegar, of a piece of freehold land (29 ft x 15 ft), and the vault built on it, adjoining Basaleg church, taken out of a close called Church Field. The land was among those comprised in the marriage settlement of Thomas Pritchard of Newport, esq., and Catherine his wife, both since dec., Catherine Cumming being their only child and heir.

Pen-y-lan (Basaleg) deed

The file comprises an agreement between Rowland Lewis of Pen y Lann in the parish of Basaleg, Monmouthshire, gent., Susan his wife and Rachell Lewis of the same, widow, his mother, and Mary Thomas of Llanedern, Glamorganshire, daughter and heir of Lewis Thomas of the same, gent., dec., to levy a fine in favour of the said Mary Thomas on the mansion or dwelling house called Pen y Lann with outbuildings and lands (17 a. Llanblethian measure, described).
