One hundred and twenty-four autograph letters, 1959-1974, from painter-poet David ('Dafydd') Jones, all addressed to Valerie ('Elri') Wynne-Williams (née Price), with the exception of two to her husband Michael ('Mihangel') (ff. 54, 112-113) and one to them both (ff. 55-56), discussing a variety of topics including his, and her, health and living conditions, his work, his friends, the Welsh language and Welsh history and politics. Some letters are illustrated with coloured pencil, pen and ink drawings, mainly of animals and flowers (ff. 8, 32, 33, 45 verso, 46 verso-47, 48 verso, 76, 103, 104 verso, 152), inscriptions (ff. 9, 34, 124 verso, 128, 136 verso) and sketch maps of Harrow (ff. 143, 144).

The file comprises a manuscript copy of a poem entitled 'The weeping Queen', with a note in the same hand signed René [Hague] and dated 22 January 1930; a typescript copy of three poems by Harman Grisewood, dated 1931, one entitled 'Rigor'; a typescript copy of two poems, one entitled 'Esurientes' (in an envelope marked 'Harman's Poems'); and a typescript and manuscript copy of an untitled poem. The hand appears to be that of René Hague.

The file comprises miscellaneous manuscript drafts of letters from David Jones to friends and associates, including Mr Alcock, Jackson Knight, Tony Stoneburner, Walter Shewring, Glyn Jones, Harman Grisewood, Alun Oldfield-Davies, T. Charles Edwards, Gwynfor Evans, Peter Orr, Valerie Wynne-Williams, Rachel Bromwich, and others. Many of the drafts are incomplete, many only of the first paragraph of the letter. There are also many letters to editors of newspapers.

The group comprises material collected by René Hague while editing Dai Greatcoat : a self-portrait of David Jones in his letters, (London : Faber and Faber, 1980), a collection of letters to H. S. (Jim) Ede, Harman Grisewood, T. F. (Tom) Burns, and René Hague. There are copies of letters from David Jones to them and others, and also biographical material, setting copies, and other material relating to the publication. They have been arranged into two groups and listed by Harman Grisewood.
