Papers of John Evans (d.c.1949) of Tre-boeth and Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, including an autobiographical essay,[c. 1949], programmes of eisteddfodau and singing festivals with which he was associated, 1891-1949, manuscript music composed by him, 1893-1948, his eisteddfod adjudications,[c. 1912]-1926, and records and papers relating to his music shop, 1913-1941; papers of his -- daughter Mali Evans d. 1991), including papers, some collected, relating to the Welsh colony in Patagonia and the Welsh diaspora, [c. 1895]-1987, and letters from her uncle, Jack Edwards of Aberystwyth, bookseller, musician and Esperanto enthusiast, 1928-1935, and correspondence of Arthur W. Wade-Evans (1875-1964), Welsh historian, and his daughter Mary Phillips to Mali Evans together with printed articles presented by Arthur W. Wade-Evans to Mali Evans. Four additional items from the printers Lowe & Brydone pertaining to 'Môr o gân yw Cymru i gyd', including receipts and a letter, dated 1928 and 1938, from among the papers of John Evans, were received in March 2019.

English translations of the diaries (f. 11 recto-verso excepted) can be found in Huw Watkin Williams, The Watkin Path to Patagonia (Neath, 2006), pp. 97-101, 105-119. There are also notes on Patagonia in Spanish, and in a different hand, on f. 4 (inverted text).

Kyffin Williams letter,

A letter, 26 May 1970, from Kyffin Williams, [London], to Meic Stephens, [Literature Director of the Welsh Arts Council], attempting to secure financial support to publish his book on his 1968-1969 visit to Patagonia.
The book remained unpublished, although parts of it appeared as 'An Artist in Welsh Patagonia', in The Anglo-Welsh Review, 18.42 (February 1970), 5-32, or would be adapted for his book A Wider Sky (Llandysul, 1991). The letter contains references to Christopher Falkus of prospective publishers Weidenfeld [& Nicolson].

NLW MS 23383B); and of the diary, 1909-10, of his son Robert Llywelyn Davies (b. 1878), Chubut.

Novels of Roy Centeno Humphreys

A photocopy of a translation into Welsh, mostly in manuscript, by Eryl McDonald de Hughes of the novel El Evangelio y Don Eduardo (Buenos Aires, 1991) by Roy Centeno Humphreys, and an English translation 'Go Patagonia, said Edwin' by the latter of his novel Go Patagonia, dijo Edwin (Argentina, 1993), both of which relate to the Welsh colonization of the Chubut Valley and were declared works of National Cultural Interest by the Argentine Government in 1996; together with Roy Centeno Humphreys's curriculum vitae and photocopies of research papers including letters to Edward Humphreys, genealogical notes, and reviews of the novels, mainly in Spanish. The author is the great grandson of Elizabeth and Morris Humphreys, who came to Patagonia aboard the Mimosa in 1865; copies of both novels have been transferred to the Department of Printed Books.
