Family and estate papers of the family of Ottley of Pitchford Hall, Shropshire, of Charles Cecil Cope Jenkinson, 3rd Earl of Liverpool (1784-1851), and later of the Cotes family, including extensive correspondence, 1684-c.1793, mostly centered on Adam Ottley (1653-1723), bishop of St Davids, and Adam Ottley (1685-1752), registrar of St Davids, including a series of letters from Browne Willis (1682-1760), 1716-1723, and some civil war correspondence and literary papers, 16 cent.-18 cent; estate papers, mainly deeds relating to Pitchford Hall, Salop, mainly in the areas of Bridgnorth and Pitchford, with some lands in adjoining counties, c. 1150-1820; including almost a thousand medieval deeds.

A manuscript in the autograph of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd) containing a copy of a charter relating to the diocese of St Davids; followed by lists of the archdeacons, abbots, priors, canons and deacons of St Davids.

A volume lettered on the spine 'Papers concerning Caermarthen'. It contains transcripts of the records of the county borough of Carmarthen, 1581/2-1610, 1738-1835, and transcripts and/or English translations of the charters of Carmarthen, 1546-1604, and Kidwelly, 1357-1618; the opinion of Mr. [ ] Cason, Thomas Mallet, and Edward Mallet, undated, touching the right of a county magistrate to intermeddle with the internal affairs of the borough of Kidwelly; a note of searches made for the endowment and terrier of the church of Kidwelly; particulars of fees paid for the charter of 1618 of Kidwelly; a lithograph of St. Peter's Church, Carmarthen, drawn by C. W. and published by Messrs. White & Sons, Carmarthen; the opinion of Henry Wm. There is an 'Index', or more correctly a detailed list of contents, at the beginning of the volume, and a brief classification of contents, printed on a vellum panel, is laid on the upper cover.

A composite volume consisting of two booklets. The first, probably written in the late eighteenth century, is entitled 'Diocese of St. Davids' and contains details of livings in each deanery within the archdeaconries of Carmarthen and Cardigan. The livings are divided into those remaining in charge, discharged and not in charge, and the value in the Kings Books and the value of the yearly tenths, etc., is given. The second booklet contains a mid-nineteenth century transcript of the will, dated 1 July 1616, of Henry Rowlands, bishop of Bangor, with a few additional notes relating to the bishop and the memorials he caused to be erected in Bangor cathedral church to himself and to Richard Vaughan (?1550-1607), bishop of Bangor. The spine is lettered 'Diocese of St. Davids MS'.

Miscellaneous documents, including an account, [18]64, of fees due from the Reverend J[ohn] Owens, Gwndwn [Calvinistic Methodist minister, Capel Ffynnon, Cardiganshire], to Thomas Watts in respect of one quarter's tuition for A. Owens and Jno. Owens at Capel y Gwndwn School; a printed list (with manuscript entries) of subjects of examination for the ordination to be held in the diocese of St. Davids, 1883; a receipt, 1883, to John Caleb Owen for the payment of ordination fees; a holograph letter from J. T. Evans, The Rectory, Stow-on-the-Wold, to [J. C.] Owen [vicar of Llanafan-fawr, Brecknockshire], 1911 (requesting information relating to one Hannah Griffiths, and also copies of the inscriptions on the five bells at Llanafan-fawr) (copies of inscriptions enclosed); a list of patrons and incumbents of Llanafan-fawr, 1486-1910; a press cutting containing a list of ruined houses ('Hen Dai Adfeiliedig') in Llanafan Fawr; etc.

Papers relating to ecclesiastical matters in the diocese of St David's, 1764-1808, including mandates for the admission of clergy, 1764-1805; and letters, 1781-1808; and the papers of William Cobb Gilbertson, 1779-1808, relating to his appointments to various posts in Cardiganshire; and the sword used by William Cobb Gilbertson during the raising of the militia against the French invasion of 1797.

Additional papers (boxes 19-21) comprising the letters of Bishop John Owen, his wife Amelia Owen and their family, together with the recollections of their daughter, Gwenonwy Davies, and of her husband the Very Reverend J. T. Davies, Dean of Bangor, were received in August 2017.
