Monmouth, extracted mainly 'o Lyfrau Harri Siôn o Bont y Pwl a Llyfr ym Meddiant Rhys Thomas, Argraffydd o'r Bont Faen ym Morganwg', but only four 'englynion', presumably meant to be attributed to this poet, follow on p. 84. [i.e. Panton MS 68 now NLW MS 2034]; 175-88, an alphabetical list of Welsh bards 'o Lyfr D'dd Ddu o'r Eryri'; and 188-98, miscellanea including transcripts of 'englynion' attributed to Siôn Mawddwy, Ieuan Tew, William Philip, and D[afydd] ab Gwilym, miscellaneous triads, genealogical data relating to various Welsh bards and Syr Rhys ap Thomas, etc. Pp. 207-390 (previously paginated 1-184) contain a collection of maxims, proverbs, triads, sayings, etc., attributed to Cattwg Ddoeth and described on a 'title-page' to the section ( p. 199) as 'Llyma Ddoethineb Cattwg Ddoeth o Lancarvan' and in a concluding note (p. 390) as 'Llyfr y cyntaf y Gwyddfardd Cyfarwydd'. In a note on the aforementioned 'title-page' (p. 199) Edward Williams claims to have transcribed this collection in 1799 from a manuscript in the possession of Siams Thomas of Maerdy Newydd, co. Glamorgan. Preceding and following the actual text of the collection are transcripts of a prefatory letter dated 1685 (pp. 201-06) and of the concluding note already referred to (p. 390) both of which are attributed to the Glamorgan scribe and copyist Thomas ab Iefan of Tre Bryn as compiler of the manuscript from which Edward Williams was allegedly copying (see TLLM, t. 172; IM, tt. 291-4). Pp. 391-477 contain a transcript of a collection, in alphabetical order, of over three thousand Welsh proverbs attributed to Cattwg Ddoeth ('Llyma Ddiarhebion Cattwg Ddoeth . . . sef yw hwnn Ail Lyfr y Gwyddfardd Cyvarwydd'). This collection, according to the aforementioned note at the end of the preceding section (p. 390) attributed to Thomas ab Iefan, had been compiled by the said Thomas from various sources and formed a continuation of the previous section. Edward Williams's claim with regard to the Siams Thomas volume is probably intended to apply to the contents of pp. 391-477 as well. The contents of pp. 199-390 have been published in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales . . ., vol. III (London, 1807), pp. 1-99.

An imperfect manuscript containing fifty 'cywyddau' and five 'awdlau' written during the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. The majority of the poems are drafts by, and in the respective hands of, the herald bards Rhys Cain and his son Siôn Cain of Oswestry, the former being represented by twenty-seven poems of which some are dated between 1582 and 1612 and the latter by twenty poems of which some are dated between 1609 and 1634. Other poets represented in the volume are William Llŷn, James Dwnn, 1616 (holograph), Edward ap Raff, Richard Cynwal, Lewys ap Edward, and Siôn Phylip. About three fourths of the poems are hitherto unrecorded. The volume is made up of individual poems written on separate papers which were previously stitched, though probably not for the purpose of covering and binding in book form, and as in the case of other manuscripts deriving from the Cains, e.g., Peniarth MS. 117, each paper bears evidence of having at one time been folded and filed in a bundle, generally with an endorsement, until eventually it became worn and tattered at the creases. The title of one 'cywydd' by Rhys Cain has been added in the hand of Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt.

A small imperfect volume containing Welsh poetry and an item of prose written for the most part c. 1600 in various artificial scripts by the scribe of Peniarth MS 65 [Owen John, R.W.M., I, 454] and NLW MS 13081B (Llanover B. 23), with a few additions of slightly later date in other hands at the end. The contents are as follows: pp. 1-74, a series of 'cywyddau', numbered [4]-7 and 9-23, by John Phelip (beginning wanting), Morys ap Howel, Lewys y morganwg, Robert Leia (beginning wanting), John y kent, Gr. llwyd dap Einion lygwy [sic], Sr Owen ap Gwillim, Rys ap Hari 'o Eas', Iolo Goch, and Dafudd ap Rys 'ofeni' [sic]; 75-96, 'cywyddau' by unnamed poets and by Morgan ap hoell, Llywelyn sion, and Thomas lly'n; 97- 126, 'Llyma henway y Pedwar Brenin Ar higain ofrenhinnoedd ynys Brydayin y rhaini y farnwyd yn Gadarnaf . . . Ac felyma henway y brenhinnoedd awnaeth y Prif Geyrydd Penaf yn yr holl ynys brydayn ay henway Pwy ay Gwnaeth, A nef yddy ynt Os kenad Gan dduw y Erchi pod Gwir Amen'; 127-32, 'owdwl fair a Gant Gwilim I ddysgu or hen fesurau gorchestawl ac Nyd ydynt yw cael and y nti hi am farddoniaeth'; 134, lines beginning 'efo naeth panton . . . ' (? in another hand, incomplete); 136-9, a 'cywydd' by Rys ap hari; 141-60 (pagination confused) 'cywyddau', some imperfect and incomplete, by John y Kent, Sion Tydyr, Sieles ap Sion 'Gwas yr henaynt' and others (unnamed); 161-4 and 169-75, religious stanzas in free metre, the second series perhaps in the autograph of one Edward Watkin; and 1177, an 'englyn' by Siarles Siones [sic]. There is a note (? incomplete) mentioning Mary John, the wife late of Richard Lewys, and others who entered a house in the parish of Mynythusllon (167). The date 1625 occurs on p. 165.

Two notebooks in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing transcripts of 'cywyddau', etc. by the following poets: Wiliam Llyn, Huw Llyn, Morys Dwyfech, Lewis Daron, Sion Wyn Owain, Kadwaladr Kesel, Huw Machno, Edmwnd Prys, Sion Philipp, Gruffydd Phylips, Huw Pennant, Lewis Menai, Wiliam Kynwal, Rissiart Philip, Richard Kynwal, Rhus Kain, Howel Reinallt, Sion Brwynog, Watkin Klewedog, Morgan ap Huw Lewis, Inco Brydydd, Dafydd Na[n]mor, Gruffudd Grug, Iolo Goch, Owain Waed da and Llywelyn Goch ap Meurig hên. Nearly all the poems are eulogies of, or elegies on , persons from Llŷn and Eifionydd. On the first page of MS 507 is the following note by J. H. Davies: 'Codwyd o lawysgrif Mr J. Glyn Davies ? Gan Myrddin Fardd' and it seems probable that the contents of MS 507 and the first ten items in MS 508 were transcribed from J. Glyn Davies MS 2 (though not in the same order), perhaps with a view to publication. The remaining poems appear to have been transcribed from various sources, including Cwrtmawr MS 454. Pasted in after the poems in MS 508 are two newspaper cuttings relating to 'Phylipiaid Ardudwy'.

An imperfect, composite volume (pp. 33-86, two imperfect, unnumbered leaves, pp. 93-146, with p. 72 blank) containing transcripts of Welsh strict-metre verse, mostly in the form of 'cywyddau', by Tudur Aled, William Phylip, Siôn Phylip, Siôn Dafydd Siencin, David ap Gwilim, Owen Gwynedd, William Lleyn, Evan Tew (1590), Ellis Rowland, Tomas Prys ('o Blas Iolyn'), Dafydd ddu ('o hiraddig'), Morys Thomas Howel, Siôn Tudur ('Swyddog Yn perthun i Esgobeth Llan Elwau'), Roger Cyffin, Gwerfil Mechain, Evan ap R. ap Llewellyn, Gutto'r Glyn, Gruffydd Owen, Edward Vrien, Edward ap Rhus, Rhys Cain, Ierwerth Fynglwyd, Rhees ap Ednyfed, Rhydderch ab Evan Llwyd ('Meisdr o ddysg'), Doctor John Cent, Sir David Trefor, Dafydd Evan ab Owen, Dafydd Nanmor, and Gryffydd Gryg. The greater part of the volume was probably transcribed by the Evan William whose name, in his own hand, appears on pp. 62, 83 (1775), and 121. 'Evan Williams, Gardener', referred to in the margin of p. 63 as the owner of the volume in 1779, is possibly the same person.

A volume containing two collections of transcripts of poetry, with copious annotations, in the hand of Owen Williams ('Owain Gwyrfai'), Waunfawr. The first collection, entitled 'Llwyn y Gell', includes 'cywyddau', etc. by Gruff. The sources used by the scribe for his transcripts of poems include 'L[l]yfr ysgrif Eiddo Mr. Owen Roberts gynt o Bentraeth Mon', 'L[l]yfrau Owen Gruffydd Llanystumdwy', and '[L]lyfrau M.S. pwdredig eiddo Mr. Jonathan Jones, Colector of Carnarfon 1855'. At the beginning is a list of poets whose titles were taken from Y Greal and a list of titles of poems transcribed in full. The collection was compiled during the period 1855-9, although the fly-leaf bears the scribe's name dated 1863. The second collection, beginning at the end, is entitled 'Y Gell Gynen, ('herwydd canau cynen sydd ynddo') and contains fliting poems ('ymrysongerddi') between Edmwnt Prys and William Cynwal and Sion Philip and Edmunt Prys, together with additional 'cywyddau' by Edmunt Prys. This section of the manuscript was compiled between 1844 and 1846, but there are some additions of the period 1859-61. Recorded on the upper end paper are timber purchase accounts of Owen Williams, 1844-5. The manuscript is lettered on the spine 'Owain Gwyrfai MS'.

A fragment (pp. 21-8, 33-8, 52-7, 62-3, and four unnumbered folios) of a manuscript collection of Welsh poetry including the end of an ode by Richard Cynwal, 1632, and 'cywyddau' by Siôn Cent, Moris Roberts, Ellis Rowlant, John Davies, Rowland Price, Dafydd Nanmor, and Siôn Phylip.

A volume containing transcripts of Welsh verse in strict metre (consisting mainly of 'cywyddau') transcribed, October [18]89 - February [18]90, by I[saac] F[oulkes] [newspaper proprietor and publisher]. Many of the poems are annotated to indicate that they were copied out of a volume in the possession of 'W.J.' of Llangollen, and the whole work appears to be an incomplete transcript of NLW MS 670D, which itself consists of a collection of Welsh poems transcribed by William Jones ('Bleddyn'), antiquary, local historian, etc., of Llangollen. The poets whose work is represented include Gwerfil Mechain, Howel Dafi alias Hywel ap Dafydd ap Ieuan ap Rys (Bardd Raglan), Sion ap Phelppot, Robert ap Dafydd Llwyd, Iorwerth Fynglwyd, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd (o Fathafarn), John ap Howel ap Tudur, Huw Cae Llwyd, Lewys Daron, Bedo Brwynllys, ? A note on p. 123 indicates that three 'englynion' by [Thomas Edwards] 'Twm o'r Nant', which were to be found at this point in W[illiam] J[ones]'s volume [NLW MS 670D], had not been copied by the transcriber, as he intended including them in a proposed new edition of that poet's works, to be published by him in 1889. A second note on the same page indicates that, similarly, fourteen 'cywyddau' by Tudur Aled had not been transcribed in the present volume, but had been copied into another book, with the intention of publishing these and other poems by the same bard, together with poems by Guto'r Glyn and Sion Tudur. In fact, fourteen 'cywyddau' and four other poems by Tudur Aled, and all of the poems by Guto'r Glyn and Sion Tudur, which appear in NLW MS 670D, have been omitted from the present volume, the presence of poems by the two latter bards in NLW MS 670D being usually indicated by the transcriber by quoting the title, or title and first line, of such works. A note on p. 153 states that eighty ' cywyddau' by Dafydd ap Gwilym [which appeared in William Jones's book, i.e ., NLW MS 670D, pp. 149-263], had been used to correct the published edition of that poet's work ('Yma daw LXXX Cywydd o waith Dafydd ab Gwilym, y rhai a ddefnyddiwyd i gywiro ei waith argraffedig'). These eighty poems, and also five retaliatory poems composed by Gruffydd Grug, in a poetic contention with Dafydd ap Gwilym, and found interspersed among the eighty 'cywyddau', have been omitted from the present volume. A further note on p. 264 states that the last three 'cywyddau' [in NLW MS 670D] had not been copied, as the transcriber believed the text to be so corrupt, that they did not merit transcription. A fly-leaf is marked 'Bk i', and this possibly connects the volume with NLW MS 19313, which, marked on a fly-leaf 'Bk ii', consists of a similar volume of Welsh verse transcribed, March - April [18]90, by I[saac] F[oulkes], again, by inference, from a book in the possession of W[illiam] J[ones].

An imperfect volume, the contents consisting of transcripts, in a hand possibly of the first half of the seventeenth century, of Welsh poems being mainly strict-metre poems in the form of 'cywyddau'. These are numbered and, if the manuscript when complete contained the whole sequence, the folios at the beginning containing poems 1-18 and most of poem 19 are now wanting. Many mid-volume and possibly some end folios are also missing. The greater part of the volume is written in a number of artificial or contrived copying hands, the scribe in some instances appearing to simulate a gothic script. The initial capitals of some of the poems have elaborate decorative detail sometimes incorporating the outlines of human figures or faces, the latter mostly grotesques. The volume has been attributed to a Glamorgan or Gwentian copyist of the first half of the seventeenth century (see TLLM, t. 44). If this dating is accepted stanzas such as those by Rhys Prichard probably have to be regarded as later insertions. There are marginal annotations in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg').

A transcript of a collection of poetical meditations, prayers, psalms, and 'cywyddau', composed by Humphrey David ab Evan, sexton of Llanbryn-Mair, about 1637 to 1644; with a few 'cywyddau' by Siôn Phylip, William Phylip, and Doctor Siôn Kent, and 'englynion' by William Cynwal and Hugh Machno. The statement in David Williams: Cofiant Cynddelw, p. 684, that the greater part of the volume is in the author's own hand is incorrect.

A manuscript entitled 'Immanuel neu Ddirgelwch Cnawdoliaeth mab Duw' in the hand of the Reverend Samuel Williams. The text is a Welsh translation of Archbishop James Ussher's Immanuel: or, The mystery of the incarnation of the Son of God (1638). Samuel Williams ends his text with a citation from the work of the poet Sion Phylip.

A manuscript in two volumes containing a corpus of Welsh strict-metre verse consisting almost entirely of 'cywyddau', and a few Welsh prose items. The foliation of the 'text' (original f. 1 missing, original ff. 2-21 renumbered 1-20, a previously unnumbered folio between original ff. 21-2 now f. 21, ff. 22-623 as originally numbered with 75 twice and 265 and 577 missed out) is continuous, and the division into vol. I (ff. 1-300), now NLW MS 13061B, and vol. II (ff. 301-623), now NLW MS 13062B, occurs in the middle of a poem. Unnumbered leaves of later origin than those of the text have been inserted at the beginning and end of each volume. The manuscript, sometimes referred to as 'Y Byrdew Mawr', is in the hand of Thomas ab Ieuan of Tre'r-bryn, parish of Coychurch, co. Glamorgan, the scribe of NLW MSS 13063B, 13069B, and 13085B, and was probably transcribed in the last quarter of the seventeenth century, partly from the manuscripts of an earlier Glamorgan copyist, Llywelyn Siôn (see TLLM, tt. 95, 167-73, 218-19, 268; IM, tt. 87, 154, 264; and IMCY, tt. 81, 175). It was probably presented to Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') by the copyist's grandson also named Thomas ab Ifan (see TLLM, tt. 170, 268).
