An account book of the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837) mainly recording receipts from the schools he kept [at Tal-y-bont, Cardiganshire], 1778-81, and [at Llanymawddwy, Merioneth], 1789.

A composite volume containing i) An account book of the Llanwddyn Bible Society, 1818-36 (with gaps), containing particulars of annual subscriptions and memoranda of requirements and distributions; ii) A volume containing particulars of personal, household and professional receipts and disbursements and a few memoranda, 1818-34, of Thomas Richards, vicar of Darowen; iii)-iv) Two account books in the hand of Thomas Richards, vicar of Darowen, recording the incidence of tithe in respect of individual properties in the parish of Darowen, respectively for the years 1825 and 1826.

A minute book of the Berriew branch of the Montgomeryshire Auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, 1818-20, together with lists of subscriptions and donations, 1818-25, and an account of Bibles distributed in the parish, 1819-23. A manuscript in the hand of Thomas Richards, Darowen containing biographical lists of eminent personages such as Biblical characters, Roman emperors, saints and bishops, Christian writers, astronomers, writers on British and Welsh history, the translators of the Bible into Welsh, etc. Among the list titles are 'Cofrestr Enwau Oedran ac amser marwolaeth y Gwyr enwog canlynol', '... enwau Astronomyddion, Beirniedyddion, Dysgedigion, Hanesyddion, Hynafieithyddion, Philosyphyddion, Rhyfelwyr a Phrydyddion, o amrywiol Genhedlaethau, y rhai a fuant fyw cyn a chwedi Genedigaeth Crist', '... amryw Ddynion hirhoedlog iawn mewn amryw Wledydd Sefyllfaodd ac amgylchiadau', '... enwau yr hen Awduron Brutanaidd ...', 'Ychydig hanes yr Awdwyr mwyaf hynod a ysgrifennasant am y Brutaniaid yn yr Ynys hon ...', '... enwau y Gwyr rhagorol, a fu yn offerynol yn Llaw Dduw i Gyfieithu'r Ysgrythur lan ir Gymraeg ...' and 'Hanes yr Ysgrifenyddion a gadwasant goffadwriaethau y Cymry, au gweithredoed[d]. Yn ol tystiolaeth Lewis Dwnn'. Among the papers pasted on the fly-leaves and end-papers is a plan of the road from Darowen to Berriew in the hand of Angharad Llwyd. The scribe's name on the upper fly-leaf is dated 1820.

A commonplace book of the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837), vicar of Darowen containing 'An Extract out of Bishop [William] Beveridge's Exposition on the XXXIX Articles of the Church of England'; household and medical recipes from printed sources; transcripts by Mary Richard [Darowen] of letters, undated, from D[avid] Richards, Llansilin to the Reverend David Hughes, rector of Llanfyllin, and [ ] (Bible Association meetings at Llansilin); autobiographical data by Thomas Richards, 1754-1819; a topographical dictionary of English and Welsh counties; a transcript of the Thirty-Nine Articles of Faith of the Church of England; a journal and account book of Thomas Richards, 1782-92 (with gaps) (incorporating notes of sermons by D[aniel] Rowland, Llangeitho); poetry by Cadwalader Dafydd ('o Lanymowddwy') and David Ellis ('y Gof' ? A volume originally used fairly extensively by Thomas Richards, Darowen as a rentroll of tithes set in the parish of Darowen, 1824-31. Beginning at the end, also in the hand of Thomas Richards, are a note from the Shrewsbury Chronicle, 1829, on the 'Rearing of Apple Trees'; medical, veterinary and household recipes; and accounts of receipts and disbursements (tithes, road rates, rents, etc.) of Thomas Richards, 1827-31. The remainder of the volume was used by Mary Richards, circa 1850-4, to record transcripts of a list of books in the library of Thomas Richards, Darowen; letters from Evan Richards to Thomas Richard[s], curate of Eglwys fach, near Dovy furnace, undated (religious meditations, a pocket Bible), Ch. Meyer, Llanrhaiadr [ym Mochnant], to T[homas] Richards, Llangynyw, undated (news of W. Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], an invitation to the recipient and Arthur [James] John[e]s), Thos Jones, L[eintwar]dine [aft. of Creaton], to Thos. Topham to [ ], 1786 (Mr Stocks's donation); an undated petition by William Davies, late of Cemmes, Llanegrin, Merioneth for a charitable contribution from Price Jones, Cyfronydd (petitioner claims that Cemmes, now in Pryce Jones's possession, was previously the property of his own father John Davies); and Hirnant rent accounts between T[homas] Richards and Captain Gwynne, 1816-18. One of the sources quoted by Mary Richards is a manuscript of Sir Thomas Llwyd, 'Person Cemes, Sir Drefaldwyn'. The outside upper cover is inscribed '1825 Tithe Book'.

A volume written by Thomas Richards, Darowen during the period 1819-31, containing hymns, metrical psalms, 'carolau plygain', etc. by Thomas Jones (Creaton) (at Longnor, 1781), Thomas William (1798), ?Thomas Richards (Darowen) (1819) ('A Gyfiaethwyd o waith Mr. [Ralph] Erskin[e]), John Powel (Llansannan) (1767), Owen Robert(s) (1795), David William [Llandeilo-fach], E[dward] Jones [Maes-y-plwm] (1797), Rowland Hugh (Grienyn), David Richards ('[Dewi] Silin'), David Thomas ['Dafydd Ddu Eryri'], William Jones (Rhos Llanerchrigog), Jonathan Hughes, Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain], Evan Evans ['Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'] (1822) and D'd Harries (Darowen) (1831), and anonymous poems.

A volume containing forty-five holograph letters, 1820-30, mostly dated, on guards, with a few drafts and miscellaneous papers, from Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'; 1795-1855), writing at various times from Trefriw, Croesoswallt [Oswestry], Berriw (Aberrhiw), Llanrwst, St Bees, Chester and Christleton to 'Teulu Darowen' (addressed generally to the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837), Darowen) and to individual members of the Darowen family, viz. the Reverend David Richards, vicar of Llansilin, the Reverend Thomas Richards (1785-1855), Berriew, later rector of Llangynyw, M[eistresa]n Sian Rhisiard, Darowen and the Reverend Richard Richards, Caerwys, and one letter, 1822, from J[ames] Evans, Sec[retary], Cymmrodorion Institution, London to Mr Evan Evans, Grammar School, Berriew, Montgomeryshire. The subjects discussed by Evan Evans include his health, education and financial position, literary matters (references to Y Gwyliedydd), his situation in the church, etc. The other items in the volume include a draft of a letter to [ ] Parry and lines of verse entitled 'Poor little Sweep'. The present arrangement of the letters is chronological, however a list [?in the autograph of J. H. Davies] inside the front cover relates to earlier numbers preceded by the letters 'E. E.' [? for Evan Evans] which are to be found on many of the letters near the address.

A volume containing seventy-four holograph letters, 1779-1833, one or two undated, on guards, seventy of which were written by the Rev. Thomas Jones (1752-1845), Trippleton (Leintwardine), Herefordshire, Longnor and Loppington, Salop and Creaton, Northamptonshire, sixty-eight to the Rev. Thomas Richards (1754-1837), Llangynfelyn, [Cardiganshire], Llanymowddwy, [Merionethshire] and Darowen, Montgomeryshire, one, 1784, to the Rev. Mr D. Williams, Ystradmeirig [sic] and one, 1789, to Mr Lewis Jones at Ynis-greigiog near Eglwys-Fach, Card[iganshire]. The subjects discussed and persons mentioned in the letters to Thomas Richards include spiritual matters, the addressee's circumstances, Mr [Daniel] Rowlands, the writer's efforts to secure preferment and assistance for the addressee, Mr Charles of Bala, the writer's own situation, his publications, clerical meetings, his work at Creaton, the Rev. Maurice Evans. Of the remaining four letters two are addressed to the Rev. Thomas Richards and are from E. Jones, Llanwryn, 1784 [? brother of the Rev. Thomas Jones] and from another person named Tho[ma]s Jones, Balls Pond, 1805. The other two letters are from Thomas Richards to the Rev. T. Jones, Creaton, 1799 (draft) and 1802, and relate to the writer's family and circumstances, the burial of one of his neighbours ('poor Morgans'), etc.

A manuscript consisting largely of transcripts and memoranda by Mary Richards and Thomas Richards of Darowen. The volume appears originally to have been used as an account book of receipts and disbursements in respect of the farms of Llwyn, Cafnmaelen and Byrthlwydd [parish of Dolgellau, Merioneth], 1799-1802, and also to record biographies of [James Crichton, 'The Admirable'], Sir Francis Walsingham, Sir Francis Drake and William Cecil, Lord Burghley. A volume of poetry transcribed by Lewis Owen [Tyddyn y garreg, Dolgellau, Merioneth] during the last quarter of the seventeenth century. It contains 'cywyddau', 'englynion', 'penillion', 'carolau', etc. by Lewis Owen, Rowland Owen, John Vaughan, William Phylyp, Dafydd Nanmor, Robin Du o fôn, John Owen, Owen Gwynedd, Sion Tydder, Bedo Brwynllysg, Jon. Phylip [Siôn Phylip], Hugh Lloyd Cynddel [recte Cynfal], Morys Dwyferch [recte Dwyfech], Dafydd ap Ifan ap Owen, Sion Dafydd Trefor [Syr Dafydd Trefor], John Brwynog, Thomas Pris [Plas Iolyn], Rowland Prys, John Davies ['Siôn Dafydd Las'], Sr. Reese, Sion Parry, Hugh Morris, Oliver Roger, Ellis Wynn, William Hu[m]ffr[eys], Robert Owen and [? Dafydd] Cadwaladr, together with anonymous poems and fragments. At the end of the volume are a leaflet entitled 'Dirgelwch i'r Rhodianwr ar y Sabbath', published by 'Cymdeithas y Traethodau Crefyddol' [Religious Tracts Society] (No. 17) (mounted on the blank leaf of a letter addressed to the Revd. Mr [Thomas] Richards, Darowen), and 'englynion' by Sion Tudur (in the hand of Mary Richards [Darowen]) and Wa[l]ter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'].

Miscellaneous documents of Thomas Richards, vicar of Darowen, including a draft notice in his hand to the inhabitants of Darowen, 1825, in support of a raffle (refers to 'shooting or discharging a musket at a target at the distance of a hundred yards') for an oak drag ('commonly called Cartincar pencar') made by Evan Jones, carpenter, of the village of Darowen; four letters to Thomas Richards from the Chamberlain's Office, Council House, Bristol, 1821-32, enclosing certificates of annuities payable to residents of the parish of Darowen; an invoice, 1816, for search of, and certificate of baptism from, the parish register of Llanwrin, 1816; lists of 'Sentences the same sound and sense in Lat[in] and Welsh' and 'Sentences in Greek of like sound and sense as 'W[elsh]', 'Memoria Technica', being mnemonic verses on English kings and queens; a printed prospectus of The Literary and Translation Society of Wales (Owen, Printer, Pool); Latin exercises; etc.

Miscellaneous papers, c. 1763-1869, connected mainly with the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837), Darowen and members of his family and including a considerable number of wills and other documents, many of which are drawn up and witnessed by the Reverend Thomas Richards, items of correspondence, poetry, petitions, accounts, bills, etc. The wills had already been arranged under parishes (Llanymowddwy; Llanbrynmair; Darowen; Machynlleth and Penegoes; Cemmes, Mallwyd and Dolgelley; and Llangynfelyn, Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn and Llanbadarn) and a list of the contents has now been compiled and inserted in the manuscript.

A volume containing four sermons largely in the hand of the Reverend Thomas Richards, Darowen.

A composite volume comprising two notebooks originally used by the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837) for personal and family memoranda and accounts (mainly 1821-37) of debts, wages paid to female servants, tithes, provisions, payments of interest and repayments of debts. It also includes accounts, 1816-24, between H. L. Eddes Gwynne and the Reverend Thomas Richards relating to Hirnant rents. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen to record transcripts of letters, mainly between various members of the Richards family but including also letters from R.
