The file comprises miscellaneous manuscript drafts of letters from David Jones to friends and associates, including Mr Alcock, Jackson Knight, Tony Stoneburner, Walter Shewring, Glyn Jones, Harman Grisewood, Alun Oldfield-Davies, T. Charles Edwards, Gwynfor Evans, Peter Orr, Valerie Wynne-Williams, Rachel Bromwich, and others. Many of the drafts are incomplete, many only of the first paragraph of the letter. There are also many letters to editors of newspapers.

Letters about published work

The file comprises manuscript drafts of letters from David Jones, many of which concern his published works. The addressees, which include Peter Orr and Sister Mary Ursula, are listed on the wrapper. There are drafts of letters concerning In Parenthesis, The Anathemata, Epoch and Artist and the 'fragments' published in The Sleeping Lord and other fragments. Other subjects include lettering for the cover of the Rutgers edition of Poetry and Prayer by Father Thomas Noon; biographical details (principally concerning the period 1921-1934); pictures by David Jones referred to in a letter from a Mr Witaker; Gwyn Williams's translations of Welsh poetry; Owen Glendower by J. C. Powys; together with an essay by Jeremy Hooker on The Anathemata and an article by him in the Winter 1970 number (vol. 6, no. 3) of Poetry Wales (there are drafts of four letters to Jeremy Hooker, one dated 20 October 1970) and suggestions that David Jones contribute an article to New Blackfriars on the general attitude implicit in his work and explicit in his occasional essays, and another to Encounter about Eric Gill (1966).

Lists of pictures

The file comprises lists of paintings, drawings and engravings by David Jones, including a list of 'Deluge 1-10' and 'Ancient mariner 1-8', manuscript and typescript lists of pictures with dates and names of the owners prepared for an exhibition, numerous lists (dated January-November 1940) of pictures exhibited at the Redfern Gallery with statement of accounts and letters from the director, Rex Nan Kivell. Also there is a transcript of a programme edited by Peter Orr and produced by the Recorded Sound Section of the British Council in London of David Jones discussing slides of his pictures [c. 1972].
