The volume is in the same hand as NLW MS 566, [See The National Library of Wales Journal, Vol IX, pp. 495-6], which formed No. 2 in the Llansilin Collection. The later sequence of pagination was carried out by Mary Richards, Darowen. Amongst the later marginalia is a copy of an undated (1 May [ ]) notice to let Ty'n Bedw, parish of Llangadfan, Montgomeryshire. The spine is lettered 'Kywyddau, Achau, Compot Manuel'.

The volume also contains personal memoranda by the scribe; an incomplete list of contents; an account of a joint dinner by the Gwyneddigion and Cymreigyddion Societies at Highbury to celebrate the birthday of the Prince of Wales, 1812; 'Principal Points of Religion' and extracts from a letter from Dafydd Evan to [ ... Wynn], undated (thoughts on religion, references to Wynn family and William Vaughan). The volume was begun about the year 1808 and completed in 1849, but the personal memoranda have been continued to 1875. Seven of the 'cywyddau' are said to have been transcribed from 'llyfr maesglase' and one 'englyn' from 'hen lyfyr Cadwaladr David'.

Williams (1817), Iolo Goch, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Taliesin, Davydd ap Gwilim, Huw Arwystl, Hugh Morris, Edward Morris, Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], [David Richards, 'Dewi Silin'], Robert Parry (Eglwys fach), David Rowlands (Plas Isa, Dolgelley), Rev. D. Davies (Castle Caereinion), John Parry, Robert Davies (Nantglyn) and Hu ap Ier. ap Robert, and anonymous poems. Among other items included are a code of manners ('Dysg Vanners dda'); a pedigree of Oliver Cromwell; a drawing and a description of a brass object discovered at Hen fryn fawr near Caersiws [sic], Montgomeryshire, 1808, 'Teilyn[g]dod a theithi yr Iaith Gymraeg', etc. [from Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'): Cyfrinach Beirdd Ynys Prydain (Abertawy, 1829)]; and a diagram illustrating the civil order and the ecclesiastical order of the months. Much of the volume appears to have been written during the period 1817-18 but there are some personal and other memoranda dated to 1857. Some of the items appear to have been copied from NLW MS 2691 ('Llyfr Pant Phillip').

A volume originally used fairly extensively by Thomas Richards, Darowen as a rentroll of tithes set in the parish of Darowen, 1824-31. Beginning at the end, also in the hand of Thomas Richards, are a note from the Shrewsbury Chronicle, 1829, on the 'Rearing of Apple Trees'; medical, veterinary and household recipes; and accounts of receipts and disbursements (tithes, road rates, rents, etc.) of Thomas Richards, 1827-31. The remainder of the volume was used by Mary Richards, circa 1850-4, to record transcripts of a list of books in the library of Thomas Richards, Darowen; letters from Evan Richards to Thomas Richard[s], curate of Eglwys fach, near Dovy furnace, undated (religious meditations, a pocket Bible), Ch. Meyer, Llanrhaiadr [ym Mochnant], to T[homas] Richards, Llangynyw, undated (news of W. Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], an invitation to the recipient and Arthur [James] John[e]s), Thos Jones, L[eintwar]dine [aft. of Creaton], to Thos. Topham to [ ], 1786 (Mr Stocks's donation); an undated petition by William Davies, late of Cemmes, Llanegrin, Merioneth for a charitable contribution from Price Jones, Cyfronydd (petitioner claims that Cemmes, now in Pryce Jones's possession, was previously the property of his own father John Davies); and Hirnant rent accounts between T[homas] Richards and Captain Gwynne, 1816-18. One of the sources quoted by Mary Richards is a manuscript of Sir Thomas Llwyd, 'Person Cemes, Sir Drefaldwyn'. The outside upper cover is inscribed '1825 Tithe Book'.

A volume, dated 1835, which was originally intended as as arithmetic exercise book for T[homas] Cynddelw Richards and was subsequently used by Mary Richards to record a list of bards, etc. who were licenced ('a gafodd Drwydd[ed]') at a Welshpool eisteddfod [?1824] and transcripts of 'cywyddau', 'englynion', etc. by Moris Evan ap Eingan [i..e. Morys Dwyfech], Gruffudd Kenrick Coch, William Llyn, Iorwerth Fynglwyd, Ifan Dyfu, Edmund Prys ('Mr o Gylfyddyd'), Ywain Waeta, Howel Kilain, Howel ap Llywelyn Ymael [recte ap y Moel], Dafydd ap Edmund, Gruffudd ap Evan ap Llywelyn Vychan, Dafydd ap Gwilim, Gruffudd ap Gronw Gethin, Tudur Aled, Cuttun [sic] Owain, Gruffudd Llwyd ap Dafydd, Richard Gruffudd ap Huw, Gutto'r Glyn, Sion Tudur, Bedo Brwy[n]llys, Rhys Nant Mor, Sir Dafydd Owain, Wiliam Philip and 'Taliesin' [?1864], and anonymous poems. One of the later transcripts is dated 1865.

'Y Llyfr hir or Mwythig', being a collection of five hundred and sixty-six cywyddau, etc. by various authors arranged into 'books' according to subject. The poems in each 'book' are numbered separately. The poets cited include Iolo Goch, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Siôn Cent, Iorwerth Fynglwyd, Bedo Brwynllys and Siôn Phylip. The volume is dated temp. James II (see p. 382). The text is followed by nine folios of index, arranged under authors' names, by Richard Morris. Following the index are three further poems (by Dafydd ap Gwilym, Siôn Cent and Dafydd ab Edmwnt) in the hand of the Reverend Samuel Williams.
The volume is in the same hand as Llanstephan MSS 47, 48 and the end of 164.

A manuscript containing prophecies in prose and verse and including alleged prophecies of Myrddin and Taliesin and the works of Iolo Goch, Dafydd Llwyd and Rhys Nanmor.
The text at p. 39b is said to be 'copied out of the Chronicle of Guttun Owain'. The text at the end beginning 'Proffwydoliaeth Banastr o Brydain fawr ...' is continued on p. 13 of the manuscript.

A manuscript containing transcripts by David Parry from the Red Book of Hergest, together with other poetry, the volume being compiled before it was given to Jesus College, Oxford in 1701. The contents of the volume are as follows: A Welsh Grammar copied from the Red Book of Hergest (col. 1117), with collations by Samuel Williams from Llanstephan MS 3, p. 472 (original foliation I-Vb, 1-7); a copy of the poetry on cols 1143-1356 of the Red Book of Hergest (original foliation 7-12b, original pagination 13-168, 169-265); followed by sixteen leaves at the end of the manuscript containing poems by Robin Ddu o Fôn, Tudur Aled, Rhys Nanmor and others, together with the pedigree of Sir Rhys ap Thomas.
Samuel Williams has copied a good many of the older material in a modernised orthography on the side left blank by the original copyist. There are also marginalia in the hand of Moses Williams. A note, probably in the hand of Samuel Williams, on p. 265 (original pagination) reads 'All the Poetry collated March 27 . 1722'.

Pp. 7-58, 61-66, 171-210 are in the hand of Roger Williams, assistant to Bishop William Morgan (1545-1604); pp. 131-137 are in the hand of Dr John David Rhys; and pp. 67-112, 139-152 are in the hand of John Powel of Talgarth, Breconshire (see pp. 67, 139; see also Peniarth MSS 27 and 45). P. 58 contains a note, 1611, in the hand of Roger Williams concerning 'the fees that goeth vpon any person in suinge owt his lyveryes', and on p. 61 is a note, 1617, in the same hand concerning the 'benefactors of the Cathedrall church of Landaphe'. Also included in the manuscript is a sermon 'in praise of theves' (p. 197), triads (pp. 200-201) and medical and veterinary recipes (pp. 199, 210b).

A composite volume, the contents being: ff. 1 recto-26 verso , 'Llyfr Barddoniaeth. sef y Gelfyddyd o ganu Cerdd Dafawd yn dda. O waith Gwilym Ganoldref. O Wynedd', i.e. William Midleton (the transcript, which is in the hand of 'Iolo Morganwg', is said on f. 25 verso to be copied 'o Lyfr Ieuan Tir Iarll, sef Sion Bradford', and appears to be similar to that found in NLW MS 13096B (Llanover C. 9.), pp. 201-35; there are references to the text published in Dafydd Lewys, Flores Poetarum Britannicorum . . . (Mwythig, 1710), pp. 59-80, on ff- 3 recto and 7 recto; 'Iolo Morganwg' dates his 'Rhagysbysiad' on f. 2 recto as follows: 'Trefflemin ym Morganwg Chwefror yr ail, 1806', and a note on f. 1 recto, 'For Mr. Wm. Monmouth, extracted mainly 'o Lyfrau Harri Siôn o Bont y Pwl a Llyfr ym Meddiant Rhys Thomas, Argraffydd o'r Bont Faen ym Morganwg', but only four 'englynion', presumably meant to be attributed to this poet, follow on p. 84. 93-7, 105-06, notes, generally derogatory, on the character and literary and metallurgical activities of Lewis Morris; 100- 04, notes on 'Welsh Ideas of Celibacy'; 122-8, a transcript of thirty 'englynion' entitled 'Ymatreg Llywelyn a Gwrnerth' attributed to Tysiliaw fab Brochwel Ysgithrawc; 130, a note relating to an 'eisteddfod' held at Y Pil (Pyle, co. Glamorgan), 1740; 131- 41, notes relating to 'singing to the harp', the 'bardd telyn', carol and 'alsain' verse, the adapting of verse to music, etc.; 147-62, transcripts of 'englynion' attributed to Rhobert, Tywysog Norddmanty, Morys Kyffin, Wm. Mr. Panton' [i.e. Panton MS.40 now NLW MS 2008]; 168-9, five stanzas of a hymn tune attributed to Elis Wynn; 169, a transcript of two 'englynion' attributed to Dr. [John] Davies; 171, a list of the commotes and hundreds of Glamorgan copied from '68. P.P.' [i.e. Panton MS 68 now NLW MS 2034]; 175-88, an alphabetical list of Welsh bards 'o Lyfr D'dd Ddu o'r Eryri'; and 188-98, miscellanea including transcripts of 'englynion' attributed to Siôn Mawddwy, Ieuan Tew, William Philip, and D[afydd] ab Gwilym, miscellaneous triads, genealogical data relating to various Welsh bards and Syr Rhys ap Thomas, etc. Pp. 207-390 (previously paginated 1-184) contain a collection of maxims, proverbs, triads, sayings, etc., attributed to Cattwg Ddoeth and described on a 'title-page' to the section ( p. 199) as 'Llyma Ddoethineb Cattwg Ddoeth o Lancarvan' and in a concluding note (p. 390) as 'Llyfr y cyntaf y Gwyddfardd Cyfarwydd'. In a note on the aforementioned 'title-page' (p. 199) Edward Williams claims to have transcribed this collection in 1799 from a manuscript in the possession of Siams Thomas of Maerdy Newydd, co. Glamorgan. Preceding and following the actual text of the collection are transcripts of a prefatory letter dated 1685 (pp. 201-06) and of the concluding note already referred to (p. 390) both of which are attributed to the Glamorgan scribe and copyist Thomas ab Iefan of Tre Bryn as compiler of the manuscript from which Edward Williams was allegedly copying (see TLLM, t. 172; IM, tt. 291-4). Pp. 391-477 contain a transcript of a collection, in alphabetical order, of over three thousand Welsh proverbs attributed to Cattwg Ddoeth ('Llyma Ddiarhebion Cattwg Ddoeth . . . sef yw hwnn Ail Lyfr y Gwyddfardd Cyvarwydd'). This collection, according to the aforementioned note at the end of the preceding section (p. 390) attributed to Thomas ab Iefan, had been compiled by the said Thomas from various sources and formed a continuation of the previous section. Edward Williams's claim with regard to the Siams Thomas volume is probably intended to apply to the contents of pp. 391-477 as well.
