Court leet presentments

The court leet presentments scheduled below comprise fifty-six bundles, plus two court books of the Barony of Kemes (1825-40; 1860-1885), and one court book of the corporation of Newport (1812-21). The bundles, in addition to the 'Presentments' at the Easter, Michaelmas, and the adjourned Leets (if any) in each year conveyed, also include 'Rolls of the Suitors' (with indications of the defaulters) to the Leets of the several manors, together with subsidiary documents, such as the Steward's warrants and precepts, &c., to the bailiffs of the manors and to the petty constables of the parishes in connection with the summoning of, and the execution of the work of the court. Throughout the names of the Court officials (Steward, Recorder, and Affeerers or Moderators), the Jurors summoned and sworn, are given. 'Rolls of Suitors' appear regularly up to about the last quarter of the eighteenth century-(at least so in the Barony of Kemes series-the only series yet examined in detail). Occasional stray 'Court Baron' proceedings and 'Estreat' particulars occur here and there; these on a detailed examination of the various bundles may be extracted and placed in the 'Court Roll' and 'Estreat' categories. The records are distributed among the various manors of the Barony and its members as under:. Barony of Kemes (from 1741-1885). Includes some presentments for Eglwswrw, Bayvill and Crigie, Moylgrove, Little Newcastle, Clawddcerrig and Llanfyrnach for years 1825-1840, and 1865-1885. 7 bundles and 2 Court Books.
