Index to the Morris letters,

A manuscript index to J. H. Davies (ed.), The Letters of Lewis, Richard, William and John Morris of Anglesey (Morrisiaid Môn) (Aberystwyth, 1907-9) compiled for J. H. Davies by T. Vaughan Roberts, London and completed in 1911. The general index (420 pp.) is followed by lists of 'Words and phrases characteristic of the Morrises or illustrating forms commonly used by them' and 'Books, Pamphlets, Manuscripts & Poems referred to', references to 'Trades & Professions', and a number of corrections. Other items ('Removed from the manuscript before it was sent to Mr Jenkin James, January 7, 1931') consist of a letter, 1911, from the compiler, T. Vaughan Roberts to J. H. Davies, and a letter, 1902, from John Ballinger, Cardiff to J. H. Davies enclosing notes and items of verse (mainly by Lewis Morris) copied by J. Ifano Jones from 'an imperfect copy of Dr John Davies's Dictionary, 1632, once the property of Lewis Morris' and from copies of [Huw Jones], Diddanwch Teuluaidd (Llundain, 1763) which belonged to John William Prichard, Plas-y-brain and Nicholas Bennett respectively.

Letters offering subscriptions towards the building of a memorial at Penrhosllugwy to Lewis Morris and his brothers Richard and William Morris, who, in 1751, were mainly instrumental in founding the Society of Cymmrodorion

'Amryw',

A manuscript volume with the title 'AMRYW' in gold lettering on the spine. Written throughout by William Owen [-Pughe], the manuscript contains transcripts of parts of two older manuscripts, the one in the hand of Lewis Morris [B.M. Add. MS 14908, ff. 36-58], and the other in the hand of Owen Jones, 'Owain Myfyr' [B.M. Add. MS 15020, pp. 1-5, 7-12, 27-8, 33- 5, 44-5, 52-8, 67-70, 93-107, 109-15, 117-23]. The first item in the present manuscript, pp. 1-39, is a transcript of the Statute of Rhuddlan, 'Ystatus Rhuddlan yw hon. A.D. 1283', copied from Lewis Morris's manuscript, which is in turn a copy of a vellum manuscript in the Hengwrt library, which he transcribed in 1738 [i.e. Peniarth MS 41]. The remainder of the present manuscript is copied from B.M. Add. Glamorgan, with a Welsh translation thereof.

A volume in the hand of D. Silvan Evans described on the title-page as 'Lewis Morris's Additions to Dr Davies's Welsh-Latin Dictionary (from autographs) 1879. (The original Copy, once belonging to Lewis Morris, and annotated on by him, is now (1879) in the possession of the Rev. Thomas James, LLD, ['Llallawg'], Vicar of Netherthong, near Huddersfield)'. The scribe has added the following observations: 'The additions, it will be seen, are few, and very unimportant ..', and at the end has recorded the following entry: 'Returned the Copy of Dr Davies's Dictionary lent me by Llallawg, for transcribing the preceding notes, July 30, 1879'.

Files 1-3: Transcripts of letters by Lewis and Richard Morris, mainly to Evan Evans ('Ieuan Fardd') and Dafydd Jones of Trefriw, almost all published in Hugh Owen (ed.), Additional Letters of the Morrises of Anglesey (1735-1786), Y Cymmrodor, Vol. XLIX, 1947-9, the remainder published in G. J. Williams (gol.) Llythyrau at Ddafydd Jones o Drefriw. Cylchgrawn Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru. Atodiad. Cyfres III, Rhif 2 (1942), and J. H. Davies (ed.), The Letters of Lewis, Richard, William and John Morris of Anglesey (Morrisiaid Mon) (Aberystwyth, 1907-9). A manuscript consisting largely of transcripts and memoranda by Mary Richards and Thomas Richards of Darowen. The volume appears originally to have been used as an account book of receipts and disbursements in respect of the farms of Llwyn, Cafnmaelen and Byrthlwydd [parish of Dolgellau, Merioneth], 1799-1802, and also to record biographies of [James Crichton, 'The Admirable'], Sir Francis Walsingham, Sir Francis Drake and William Cecil, Lord Burghley.
