Cofrestr Capel Mynyddbach, Llandeilo

A volume containing the register, 18 cent., of Mynyddbach Congregational Chapel, Llandeilo, including names of members, baptisms, deaths, accounts, etc.; this is a valuable document and is numbered in folios. The first 38 pages of the volume were apparently written by members of the Christmas family and includes an account of the marriage of David and Jemima Christmas in 1808, together with the names of their children; it is possible that this initial section was sewn into the latter portion when the book came into the possession of David Christmas.

A poetic memorial in the form of an elegy to the Reverend P. Griffiths, Alltwen, Glamorganshire, who died 2 January 1882, aged 82 years, written by the Reverend B. Thomas, Gurnos, Glamorganshire.

Parch. Moses Ellis: Papurau

Papers and documents relating to the Reverend Moses Ellis, Congregational minister of Mynydd Islwyn, Monmouth (1798-1866); the material is mounted on thick paper and includes the Reverend Ellis's licence to preach, dated 7 October 1819 (p. 3), his call to Talybont Chapel, 1 June 1823 (p. 5) and his ordination certificate (p. 5). Also in the collection are prayers and covenants (pp. 7-13) and letters (pp. 15-19), including one from a minister - possibly Moses Ellis - giving up his pastorate (p. 17) and letters relating to the Reverend Ellis's second marriage (p. 19).

Reverend John Davies: Sermons

A bundle containing sermons and notes mostly in the hand of the Reverend John Davies of Llansamlet (1740-1821); Reverend Davies was a son-in-law of the Reverend Lewis Rees of Mynydd bach (1710-1800) and some of these papers may have belonged to the Reverend Rees.

Irish miscellaneous prose and verse

A volume containing miscellaneous Irish prose and poetry, including a forus focal (p. 1), the stories of the Battle of Cnucha (p. 8), the Battle of Magh Leana (p. 43), the Children of Uisneach (p. 92), the Battle of Clondarf (p. 121), the Battle of Mucramha (p. 205) and the Pursuit of Diarmuid and Grainne (p. 298), and poetry (pp. 146-204) which is almost exclusively Ossianic; the volume also includes other poetical and historical pieces, as well as conversation lessons in Irish (p. 363) and a collection of proverbs and sayings (p. 413).

Irish prose and poetry

A manuscript in the hand of Concubhar O Maille (Cornelius O'Malley), Kilkee (1829) which largely consists of the Agallamh Oisin agus Phattruig but which also includes poetry and prose works, an elegy on the death of Seumus MacCoitir (p. 250) and an Irish grammar (p. 258) from the original of Aodh Buidhe Mac Cruitin (McCurtin) (Paris, 1732) which has been revised and improved by Concubhar O Maille.

Ossianic poetry

A volume containing a collection of the Lays of Ossian, comprising 1091 stanzas, copied, 1844, for the Reverend Joseph Baylee, Woodside, Liverpool by James Sullivan, who received one pound sterling for his labour.

Rhys Cain: Marwnadau

A collection of elegies, in Welsh, by and in the hand of Rhys Cain (d. 1614), after 1588. Inserted into the collection is a cywydd (p. 115) by Gruffydd ap Ieuan ap Llewelyn Fychan in the hand of Thomas ap Wiliam of Trefriw, and a cywydd (p. 119) by and in the hand of Huw Machno, 1601.
