A. J. Williams's publications,

Arranged chronologically, 1865-1911 (F 1-26), railways, 1882-1911 (F 27), legal works, 1884-1890 (F 28), and An amazing revolution, 1909-1915 (F 29).

Diaries kept by Rose Harriette Thompson Williams,

Kl and K2 are large volumes containing detailed entries. The remainder are pocket diaries with briefer entries. The diaries for 1911, 1912 and 1913 were lost in Germany when Rose Harriette Thompson Williams's luggage was detained, 2 August 1914.

Arranged into letters to Rose Harriette Thompson Williams, 1874-1938 (O 1-52), drafts and copies of Rose Harriette Thompson Williams's letters, 1901-1918 (O 53-59), and family miscellanea, 1849-[?1915] (O 60-68).

Correspondence,

Correspondence, 1933-2010, mainly comprising letters to Alun Hoddinott from performers, composers, librettists, publishers, radio and television companies, academic institutions, arts organisations and festivals. They mainly relate to the commissioning, performance and publishing of works, working visits abroad, his career at University College, Cardiff and honours bestowed on him. Some personal and family correspondence is included.

Articles and interviews,

Papers, 1954-2006, comprising mainly articles, reviews, interviews and talks by Alun Hoddinott, and articles by others relating to the composer. Drafts of a proposed book on Alan Rawsthorne, together with a few bibliographies and biographies, are included.

Accumulated papers,

Accumulated material, 1963-2008, comprising mainly libretti and various scripts which were apparently not set to music; and typescript copies of plays and volumes of poetry. The manuscript of a carol dedicated to the composer and his wife is included.

Poetry: Published Collections,

In each case drafts follow the order adopted in the published volume. Drafts of individual poems, usually both manuscript and typescript, had already been arranged in reverse chronological order by the author, and this arrangement has been retained.
