Silvan Evans and published in Y Genhinen, Vol. II (1884), p. 78. There is a typewritten list of contents at the beginning and the spine is lettered 'Cywyddau'.

An imperfect and badly mutilated volume containing sermons, some of which are transcribed from Edward James: Pregethau a osodwyd allan trwy awdurdod i'w darllein vmhob Eglwys blwyf ... (Llundain, 1606); proverbial sayings, triads and short tabular texts, many probably extracted from Robert Lloyd: Llwybr hyffordd yn cyfarwyddo yr anghyfarwydd i'r Nefoedd (Llundain, 1630) e.g. 'Wyth o arwyddion ansomedig o Iechydwrieth', '... arwyddion o ddamnadigaeth [sic] .... naw arwydd ... o golledigaeth dyn', 'Achosion seguryd ...', 'Naw o fariav i gav allan or nefoedd a naw porth i fyned i vffern', 'Naw ystyrieth buddiol', 'Geiriau gwir Taliesn [sic]', 'Attebion y seithwyr doethion yw gilydd ... A volume of transcripts of poetry by Dafydd ap Gwilym, together with a few 'englynion' and 'cywyddau' by Wm Morris, G[ruffudd] Grug, Dafydd ap Edmund, Rhys Gôch Glan Ceiriog, Dafydd Nanmor, Iolo Goch, R[obin] Ddu, and some anonymous 'englynion'. The transcripts are taken from UCNW Bangor MS 6. A note by Mary Richards, Darowen on p. 1 ascribes the volume to John William[s], musician ('Cyfansoddwr Tona'), Dolgelley, probably John Williams ('Ioan Rhagfyr') (see Thomas Parry (gol.): Gwaith Dafydd ap Gwilym (Caerdydd, 1952) pp. c1xviii-clxix). At the end of the volume is a table entitled 'Rhannau Monwent Dar-Owen megis y dosparthwyd ag y cyweiriwyd hwynt ar eiriol David Davies vicar yno, gan ddechrau, o barth dwyrain Ty'r Vicar ag felly diwygio oddi amgylch Mai yr 28 1636' (' ... carefully transcribed out of the original by me Lewis Jones Vicar of Darowen' - a Chopiwyd genyf inneu or Terrier Darowen. M. R. Dar[owen]'). Tipped into the volume are a bond, 14 February 1690/1, from David Jones of Cowarch, Merionethshire, gent. to John Thomas Rees of the same, yeoman for the observance of covenants, and a poem in free metre entitled 'Myfyrdod y Parchedig Mr [Roderick] Lewis Periglor Llanbrynmair Uwchben Bedd ei ddiweddar Wraig', 1829. Among a number of items laid on the inside lower cover is Ychydig o gynghorion buddiol i Bobl Ieuainc, Wrth fyned i wasanaeth (Treffynnon, n.d.).

Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.

Llyn, Sion Phylip, Bedo Hafesb, Simon Sion [Jones] (Blaen y Cwm Gynllwyd), John Cadwalader, Ellis William ('or wergloddu'), Thomas Evans, Llewelun Jones, Llywelyn Cadw[alad]r?, Lewis Jones (Tymawr), John Fychan, Dafydd Manuel, and Lewis or plas, together with anonymous compositions. The volume has an obvious association with the Llanuwchllyn area of Merioneth. The greater part of it was written apparently by Richard Hughes, Pentre, circa 1761.

A composite volume comprising: (I) Four booklets in the hand of David Jones ('Dewi Fardd', 1708?-85), Trefriw containing an incomplete text of his '[Cronicl] Hanes [Cymru] a'i Thrig[olion] er amser Julius Caesa[r] hyd amser neu Deyrna[siad] y Brenhin Iago y Cyntaf'; a 'cywydd' by Tho. Prys; an incomplete list of titles (pp. 484-526) in David Jones : Blodeu-gerdd Cymry (Y Mwythig, 1759); and carols, etc., among them 'Newyddion Gyng'aneddau' by David Jones. (Ii) A booklet largely in the hand of Evan Thomas (ob. 1781), Cwmhwylfod, Sarnau, near Bala containing extracts from Y Drych Cristianogawl (Rhotomagi, 1585); and poetry in strict and free metres by Evan James, Sr. Rogier, Edward Sam[ue]l, Dafydd yn Ifan ('o Lanfair Careinion'), Edwart Moris, John Edward Ma..., Hugh Hughes and John William(s); and anonymous compositions, among them a 'Hymn yngulch duwdod Iesu Grist ...'. The spine is lettered 'Mân Lyfrau Dewi Fardd ac eraill'.

A commonplace book of Evan Evans otherwise Evan ab Evans ('Ieuan Fardd' otherwise 'Ieuan Brydydd Hir', 1731-88), containing excerpts and extracts of prose and verse derived chiefly from English seventeenth and eighteenth century sources, e.g. Alexander Pope (translations of the 'Iliad' and the 'Odyssey'), Samuel Johnson (life of Richard Savage), John Dryden ('Preface to the Fables'), Abraham Cowley ('Miscellanies' and 'Davideis'), Sir John Suckling, William Warburton, William Wycherley, William Congreve, Joseph Addison, Samuel Butler ('Hudibras'), etc. The volume also contains 'englynion' and couplets by William Llyn, 'Theodore Alet', Sion Brwynog, Evan ab Jenkin Evan, D[afydd ap] G[wilym] Iolo Goch, Gwilim ab Ieuan hen, Dafydd ap Edmunt, Huw Cae Llwyd, Sion Tudur, and E. Evans, 'A Table of Summs in Attic Money with their proportion to english money', the first line of the Lord's Prayer in divers languages; etc.

A volume of sermons, including funeral sermons, preached during the period 1642-1663 at Mold ('apud Montem Altum'), Llangynocke, Llaneurgayn, Llanvyllyn, Pennant, Langwm, Lann Rayder?, Beryw (Berew), Gwyddelwern, Llanwythyn, and Llwydiarth, together with prayers, among them being 'A prayer & Thanksgivinge [for the success of Prince Rupert] to bee vsed in the churches of North Wales 1644', and some later additions. On one of the fly-leaves is a stanza in 'triban' metre to the curate of Llan Gwstennyn.

A manuscript containing an alphabetical list of poets and authors (most with abbreviations for the names and floruits appended) and literary and historical works (e.g. Brut y Tywysogion, Buchedd St Margaret); a list of Welsh proverbs, all starting with 'ni' or 'nid'; poetry, nearly all in the form of 'englynion', mainly by Owen Gruffydd 'o blwy Llanystynd[wy]' and Absalom Roberts of Llanrwst, with a few 'englynion' by John Prichard Prys, Edward Morus, Ellis Rolant, Sion Dafydd and anonymous; on the last page (24) there are epitaphs in verse to Anne and Cathrin Roberts of Goppa, who died in 1780.

An imperfect volume of 'cywyddau', a few 'englynion' and a carol by William Sion ab Dafydd, Roger Kyffin, Sion Ffylip, William Llyn, Tydyr Aled, John Morgans, John Prichart Prees, Iolo Goch, Edward Moris (corrected to Sion Tydur), Robt. Edward, D. ab Edw[ard], Richard Phylip, Griffith Parry, John Davis, and Sion Dafydd Sienkin. The volume may be in the hand of John Pughe of Kedris, whose name occurs twice: 'John Pughe his hand 1731', (p. 12) and 'John Pughe of Kedris his hand 1732' (p. 16).

Y dôn yw blodau'r dyffryn' by Edward Charles is the following postscript, - 'Gresyn na fyddai beirdd Cymry yn 'r oes hon yn canu ar yr hên Geingciau cymreig fel y pennillion hyn: mae'nt hwyth[a]u yn barddoni y rhan fynycha, a'r ryw Geingciau seisnig, yr hyn sydd hollol anghyttun a pheroriaeth y Cymro'. On one of the fly-leaves is an imperfect list of correspondents in the hand of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), with additions in the hand of J. H. Davies.

The volume is almost entirely in the autograph of Margaret Davies [Coetgae-du, Trawsfynydd]. The 'cywyddau' have been numbered, possibly at a date later than the time of writing, and it appears that several folios are wanting at the beginning. The initials 'P. W.' or 'P. Wm.' sometimes occur at the end of a 'cywydd' near the name of the poet.

A notebook containing 'englynion', 'cywyddau', etc. by (?) E. Anwyl, Ed. Gwynedd, Sr. Owain ab Gwilym, Ifan Llwyd o waun Eingian, Howel Cilan, Mathew Browmffield, Siams Dwnn, 1605, Ifan Tew, Sion Phylip, Rissiart Phylip, Robert Humphreys [1707] (in a different hand) and John Byrchinsha [1707] (in free metre), followed by a list of contents written in a later hand. At the reverse end is the beginning of a Welsh translation of A Practical Discourse concerning a future judgment by William Sherlock, D.D. [pp. 1-11] ('Traethod bucheddol am y farn a fydd (sy' i ddyfod) o waith Wm. Sherloc y D.D.'), followed by englynion by Ed. Morys and Siôn Rhissiart, etc. and a note in pencil by St. G. A[rmstrong] W[illiams], July 8 1886: 'Cannot find a name for this note book, so as to identify it on the Catalogue'. In the list of Cwrtmawr manuscripts it is described as 'Llyfr W. Rowlands, 1700'. J. H. Davies has added in pencil: 'W Rowland see R. Ellis article on Lhwyd' [i.e. Trans. Cymm., 1906-7, pp. 26-8].
