Thomas Davies lectures

A volume of lectures, 1869, delivered by Dr Thomas Davies at Ross-on-Wye during his pastorate there at the Congregational church, which lasted from April 1867 until April 1870. The lectures include: 'The Rise and Progress of Independency' (pp. 1-46); 'Man and the Gospel' (pp. 47-95); and 'Livingstone' (pp. 139-177).

Charity schools

Transcripts, partly in the autograph of Dr Wynne, of documents relating to charity schools in Herefordshire, including 'The Methods used for Erecting Charity-schools', etc. (ff. 1-3); the charges of clothing a boy and a girl (f. 3 verso); 'Articles Aggreed [sic] upon by the Trustees and Stewards of the Charity Schools at Ross the twenty first Day of July 1712, for the Regulating and management of the said schools' (ff. 5-10a); extracts from the order books of the trustees and subscribers of the Charity Schools in Hereford (ff. 11-11a); and a list of legators and subscribers to the Charity Schools of Ross for 1744-5 (ff. 12-13).

Two notebooks, NLW MS 16798Ai being a printed account book for the year 1802 possibly belonging to a yeoman farmer or man of similar profession, NLW MS 16798Aii being a journal without dates and containing only rough accounts on ff. 6 verso-7.
NLW MS 16798Ai mainly contains details of accounts settled and owed together with general observations on the weather, agricultural duties, etc. There are rough accounts on inside front cover, ff. i, ii verso, 85 recto-verso, and inside back cover. The location of the writer is uncertain but may have been Monmouthshire, Gloucestershire or another county at or near the Welsh border as mention is made of travelling to Howle in Shropshire (ff. 13 verso, 42 verso, 43 verso, 44 verso), to [?Soilwell Farm] in Gloucestershire (f. 32 verso), to Hereford (f. 29 verso), and to attending Ross[-on-Wye] church (f. 23 verso).

Original bundle of deeds relating to properties in the parishes of Brelston, Goodrich, Hentland, Marstow, Peterstow and Welsh Bicknor, all Herefordshire, and in the parish of Llandenni, Monmouthshire, including the marriage settlement of Thomas Philpott, shoemaker, and Elizabeth Dubberly, spinster, both of the town of Ross, Herefordshire, 1712 (no. 72), and probate of the will of John Chest of Dafferluke in the parish of Hentland, gent., 1718 (no. 92).
