Bound in a re-used leather cover, blind-tooled, 220 x 160 mm., formerly one cover of a folio volume; D 1 is inscribed on the back and front covers of the present work. Three leather bands on the inside and outside of the spine support the sewing. Written in black ink, with many blank pages. On f. 147r is a receipt, dated 11 April, 1750, for 16s. 3d. received of Mr. George Hicks in payment of his light tax for Porth yr Aur, signed by Robert Thomas and David Jones, collectors. Within the back cover is the armorial bookplate of Hugh Griffith of Brynodel.

Caern., esq., upon whose order the volume was written by John Richard Prees, following Griffith Hiraethog, William Llyn and Lewis Dunn, and continuing therefrom; the pedigrees centre on Rhys ap Tewdwr fawr, Prince of South Wales. Among the inclusions, loose and pasted in are epitaphs, genealogical notes, a letter and a list of sheriffs of co. Caern., 1540-1805. Two printed items included are a memorial against Lord Bulkeley and 'an historical legi-graphical chart of landed property in England.'.

The outer covers consist of 2ff. of Ratson Maur's commentary on the Pauline epistles (Rom. xii, 3-8), written in a twelfth century hand.

Some accounts are subscribed with a note of examination and a note of money owed to Richard Gruffith, signed by Evan Wynne. Other lands referred to: 'r' hen Evel, [p. Llanenddwyn, co. Mer.].
