An incomplete Welsh translation by Richard Owen [? 1552] of Joannes Ludovicus Vives: De institutione faeminae Christiana; 'proffwydoliaeth sibli ddoeth'; a Welsh vocabulary - 'henwau arglwydd', etc.; pedigrees - mythological and biblical, Welsh princes, 'Bonedd y Saint', etc.; accounts for corn and straw, 1589; an incomplete copy of the Welsh version of the Earl of Arundel's charter to the inhabitants of Chirk and Chirkland, 1334; a fragment of a transcript of Brut y Brenhinedd; a letter by John Ley; directions concerning preachers by James I; the assize of arms and tables of precedence; medical recipes; and a fragment of an English play (published in Malone Soc. Some of the items have been transcribed from the manuscript(s) of 'Cadwaladr Robert o Lan y Mowddwy' and 'John Cadwalader' (p. 87) and 'Cadwaladr Davidd lan y Mowddwy' (p. 132).

Medical prescriptions, etc.

A late eighteenth and early nineteenth century manuscript of Thomas Davies containing medical recipes and prescriptions, notes on the treatment of diseases and on the virtues of herbs, and a few miscellaneous notes and extracts. The contents have been taken for the most part from printed sources but a few isolated prescriptions are ascribed to Jno. Morgans, surgeon, of St Davids, 1808 (p. 346) and Mr [Thomas] Jones, Neuaddfawr [Lampeter, Cardiganshire] (pp. 349, 357). Among some extraneous matter in the volume are 'Trioedd Offeiriaid' in 'triban' metre by Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') (pp. 351-4) and a transcript of a Carmarthen Bank note, 1802. There is an incomplete index at the end of the volume.

Sermons,

A volume of sermon notes bearing the name 'Richard Foulkes Dimbuch (crossed out) Ebrill 12 1813', above which J. H. Davies has written in pencil 'Richard Foulkes (1784-1823)' [i.e. 'Silas Glandyfrdwy', Baptist minister]. Other items include a few medical and veterinary recipes and some music.

A volume containing recipes, household and medicinal but mainly relating to the craft of bookbinding (ff. 5-10); a list of books lent, 1827-1837, from an unspecified library, with observations on their condition (inverted text ff. 44 verso-7 verso); notes on the rudiments of music (ff. 2-4, originally pasted together onto f. 1); with late nineteenth and early twentieth-century additions by William Morris, Cydweli.

Miscellanea,

Six manuscript leaves extracted during rebinding from a copy in the Evan D. Jones Library of Henry Perry: Eglvryn Phraethineb . . . (Llundain, 1595). They contain an incomplete 'cywydd marwnad'('Och frwydyr awch fu rydost . . .') written circa 1662; verses by Llowarch hen; 'Henwav Arglwydd', 'Henwav brwydr', 'Henwav gwayw', 'Henwav arfav am wr', 'Henwav baner', and 'Henwav pob pethav teg'; 'englynion'; and medical recipes.

The poems include 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'cywyddau' and 'englynion' by Hugh Morys, Dafydd Nanmor, Maredudd ap Rhys, William Wynne, John [Siôn] Cadwaladr, Jonathan Hughes, Lewis Morris ('Llywelyn Ddu'), Ellis Roberts, Rees Ellis, Roger Thomley, Ellis Cadwaladr, Matthew Owen, Edmwnd Prys, Dafydd Manuel and others. A valentine from Cadwaladr Davies to Jane Jones is dated 14 February 1749.

Cardigan] from London, Edinburgh, and Cwrtmawr, to Mrs. Lewis [? her aunt Mary Lewis, Carmarthen], [18]61-1871 (personal, news of relatives and friends, the writer's wedding and honeymoon, the purchase of crockery, etc.); a list of persons present at the wedding of Frances Humphreys and R. J. Davies, 1863; a copy of a prescription issued to Frances Davies by Dr. Simpson, Edinburgh, 1863; and a card announcing the birth, 15 April 1871, to Mrs. R. J.
