An imperfect manuscript of the late seventeenth century in the hand of Huw Morys, with copious additions in a number of early eighteenth century hands. It consists largely of 'cywyddau', 'carolau', 'cerddi' and 'dyrïau' by Huw Morys himself, with a few poems in both strict and free metres by Owen Gwynedd, Humphrey Owen, Simwnt Vychan, William Miltwn [Midleton, Myddelton], Doctor Sion Kent, Roger Kyffin, Sion Sgrufen and John Davies ('of Rhiwlas'), and anonymous poems. The volume is lettered 'Barddoniaeth Huw Morys'.

A text of 'Dosparth Edeyrn Dafawd Aur' written by Lewis Richards, Darowen Vicarage in 1821. The manuscript is a transcript of Cwrtmawr MS 250 and formed the basis of the spurious Dosparth Edeyrn Davod Aur (Llandovery, 1856), published for the Welsh MSS Society, with an English translation and notes by John Williams ('Ab Ithel') (see John Morris-Jones: 'Dosbarth Edern Dafod Aur', Trans. Cymm., 1923-4, 1-28). The 'cywyddau' by Ieuan ab Hywel Swrdwal and Gruffudd ab Ieuan ab Llywelyn and 'Chwedl Rhitta Gawr, o Lyfr Iago ab Dewi' which follow the treatise in Cwrtmawr MS 250 are also included in the present volume.

Two volumes in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen consisting largely of transcripts of poetry from manuscripts then in the Llansilin Collection (e.g. Cwrtmawr MSS 204, 206-7, 227, 238, 242-3). Other transcripts in the collection are items from 'copy o un [o] lyfrau Maesglase, Mallwyd', including 'Merddin ai dywaid', 'Taliesin ai traethoedd', Merddin ai Traethodd', 'Taliesin ai Traethodd', and 'Merddin a Gwenddydd'. At the reverse end is the beginning of a Welsh translation of A Practical Discourse concerning a future judgment by William Sherlock, D.D. [pp. 1-11] ('Traethod bucheddol am y farn a fydd (sy' i ddyfod) o waith Wm. Sherloc y D.D.'), followed by englynion by Ed. Morys and Siôn Rhissiart, etc. and a note in pencil by St. G. A[rmstrong] W[illiams], July 8 1886: 'Cannot find a name for this note book, so as to identify it on the Catalogue'. In the list of Cwrtmawr manuscripts it is described as 'Llyfr W. Rowlands, 1700'. J. H. Davies has added in pencil: 'W Rowland see R. Ellis article on Lhwyd' [i.e. Trans. Cymm., 1906-7, pp. 26-8].

A small volume, originally with clasps, containing 'cywyddau', 'englynion', etc. by Evan ab Evan (lines from Anacreon), Taliesin, Dafydd ap Edmwnt, John Philipp, Richard Philip, Dafydd ap Gwilim, Tudur Aled, John Dafies (Dafis), Owen Gwynedd, W(illiam) Llyn, Sion Brwnog (Brwynog), Dafydd Trefor, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Iolo Goch, Thomas Prys o Blas Iolyn Esgwier, Hugh Llwyd Cynfal, Doctor (Sion) Cent, Tudur Penllyn, Edward M[orus], Sr. Morgan, Rowland Vaughan, Hugh ap Ev. ap Ro[ ] and Wmphre David. The contents appear to have been transcribed after 1744 from a manuscript annotated by Lewis Morris, and a note on p. 100 suggests a connection with BM Additional MS 14866, although none of the poems are to be found in that volume. There are a number of quotations in the margins and elsewhere from Pope, Homer, Dryden, etc. At the beginning, in a later hand, are an 'englyn' by Siencyn Thomas Morgan and an 'englyn' which is described as being on the tombstone of the Reverend Alban Thomas of Blaen y Porth, Cardiganshire. A note in pencil on the limp boards which were originally inside the vellum cover reads 'Gwaith hen Feirdd MS from Rev. Armstrong Williams'.

A volume of poetry, chiefly in strict metre, written largely in the autograph of Owen Gruffydd (?1638-1730) between 1677 and 1692. Most of the poems are by Owen Gruffydd, but the following poets are also represented: Robin Ddu, Dafydd Gorllech, John Roger, Sion Phylip, Sypyn Cyfeiliog, Dafydd ap Gwilym, William Phylip, Gyttyn Owain ('medd rhai' 'Meredydd ap Rhys' in another hand), Ifan Tew Prydydd, Huw ab Iva[n], Bedo Brwynllysg, Edmwnt Prys, Edward Morys, Matthew Owen and Hugh Morys. There is a list of contents at the beginning and the poems have been correspondingly numbered. There are 'penillion' by William Elias on p. 309b. John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') has supplied a lacuna in the manuscript from Peniarth MS 124. Almost all the 'cywyddau' in this manuscript, but not the 'englynion' and the poems in free metre, are to be found also in Peniarth MS 124, which is later in date than the present manuscript and written in a different hand. The pages have been numbered by Dr J. Gwenogvryn Evans and his report on the manuscript is in J. Gwenogvryn Evans MS 70a (under 'M[yrddin] F[ardd] 5'). If the information given on pp. 1 and 50 is correct, Owen Gruffydd was born in 1638. A note at the end (p. 238) of his elegy to Sir Roger Mostyn (d. 1690) states that the poet received fifty shillings for the 'cywydd'. There is a folio missing after p. 36 and another is wanting before p. 53.

Photostat facsimiles and photographs of the Merthyr Mawr fragment of The Canterbury Tales of Geoffrey Chaucer, being three imperfect folios from an early fifteenth century text of the Nonnes Preestes Tale. The three folios originally contained II. [15]-94, [253]-332, and [417]-96 of the text. Among later marginal additions are couplets in strict metres by Tudur Aled.

The poetical works of Edward ap Raff in the hand of Ifan ap John of Scorlegan [or Richard ap John according to the online Dictionary of National Biography (under heading for Richard ap John of Scorlegan)]. Many of the poems are dated. Pp. 1-2 contain poetry by Ieuan Tew Brydydd and Hywel ap Dafydd ab Ieuan ap Rhys.

A manuscript containing the poetical works of Lewis Glyn Cothi, Tudur Aled, Tudur Penllyn, Sion Cent, Ieuan ap Tudur Penllyn, Rhys Cain and others. There is some controversy as to whether f. 137 contains work by Llewelyn ab Ieuan or by Deio ab Ieuan Du. The volume is labelled 'Odlau a Chywydda. A. 4°'.
Ff. i-ii, 137-143b are not in the same hand as the rest of the manuscript, and ff. 144b-146 are in a modern hand. Ff. 1-56 may be copied from Peniarth MS 109; the order of the poems is the same at first, but the readings do not always agree, and there are four poems in this manuscript which are not in Peniarth MS 109. Pp. 11-96 of Peniarth MS 77 are copied from this manuscript. William Salesbury or Sir T. Wiliems has written what looks like 'rhyderch ap Howel ap Dauyd' on f. 136b.

The manuscript is written in the same hand as that in Peniarth MSS 48 and 134 and Llywarch Reynolds MS. The leaves are in good condition. On pp. 565-580 is an index to the authors of the poems compiled by Richard Morris for William Jones, London, 1747.

All but pp. 256-259, 265-268 and part of p. 198 are in the autograph of the grammarian Dr John David Rhys (1534-1609); his peculiar orthography begins on p. 13, l. 21. The poetical extracts vary in length from three to fifty lines. The lines selected are not always consecutive; they are even occasionally fragmentary, and many words are explained or glossed. The awdl on p. 256 is in a different but contemporary hand from that of Dr John David Rhys. For p. 265, cf. the text on pp. 22-24, which agrees in part. For the dating of this manuscript see p. 207.
