The greater part of the manuscript was written in the seventeenth century; but there are additions and marginal notes to the nineteenth century. There is an index ('Tabl y llyfr') to ff. 1--76, in a seventeenth century hand. Between ff. 4 and 6 are inserted two leaves (pp. 129-30, 135-6) of David Jones (Trefriw) (ed.): Cydymaith Diddan (Caer Lleon [1766]).

Certain of the above items appear to have been published in The Myvyrian Archaiology and the volume Iolo MSS. Pasted in at the end of the volume are a few loose items including notes on ancient alphabets, etc., dated 1821; a tune with words in ?Hebrew and Welsh based on Ps. 115, 1; a receipt dated 20 June 1793 for 5 guineas, being the admission fee to the Society of Antiquaries of London of William Owen [-Pughe]; and a copy of printed proposals to publish Pethagoras; or, The Hindoo's Researches.

Culinary and medicinal recipes, collected apparently by Jane Tonyn of Berwick-on-Tweed, co. Northumberland, with some early nineteenth-century additions by Rice Hughes, son of Richard Hughes, rector of Dolgellau, co. Merioneth. Sources are frequently named, and dates sometimes given.

A manuscript volume, written in the year 1800 by William Owen [-Pughe], containing an English translation of the tale 'Peredur' which is sub-titled 'A Tale Of the Britons' with the Welsh text facing. The Welsh version is said on p. 234 to be transcribed from a manuscript in the hand of the poet Huw Llyn [i.e. BL Add. MS 14967, pp. 284-321], 'Adysgriviad o hen lyvyr wedi ei ysgrivenu gan Huw Llyn y Barz', but a note on page 60 suggests that the beginning of the tale was missing when the present manuscript was bound and that the transcriber added the missing part of the text on 21 Sept. 1827: 'Cyvysgrivwn odd y deçreu hyd yma, a oedd a'r goll pan rwymid y llyvr. D. Gwener, Medi 21. 1827. W. O. P. Segrwyd'. The following note appears on p. 235: 'Finished Dec. 31 1800, 9 o'clock at night - 3 hours before end of the 18th. century - Wm. Owen'. Written on the front fly-leaf is a medical recipe for 'Sore throat ulcerated' as well as the name 'W. Owen No. 40 Penton Street, Pentonville'. Pages 1-2 and 236-237 contain quotations from the works of medieval Welsh poets and the triads referring to Peredur with references to The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales ..., Vol. 1 (1801), and Barddoniaeth Dafydd ab Gwilym (1789).

A volume, 1601-1607, in the hand of John Prise, the Priory, Brecon, and the Priory, Hereford, grandson of Sir John Prise (1502?-1555), containing medical and other recipes including charms against witchcraft (ff. 16 verso, 18); monetary accounts, mostly agricultural and household disbursements, together with brief lists of rents received, 1603-1604, for lands in Defynnog and for the tithes of Battle and Llandeilo'r-fân, Breconshire (ff. 5, 6 verso-7); the medicinal properties of various kinds of meat (ff. 234-238 verso); and farming memoranda (ff. 3 verso, 5, 6 verso-7, 240, 241 verso-242, 243 recto-verso). Additions in later seventeenth-century hands include culinary recipes (ff. 223 verso-224 verso, 225 verso).

A manuscript containing Welsh poetry, including the work of Edmwnd Prys, Sion Brwynog, Guto'r Glyn, Sion Phylip, Sion Tudur, Taliesin, Iolo Goch and others. Pp. 7-58, 61-66, 171-210 are in the hand of Roger Williams, assistant to Bishop William Morgan (1545-1604); pp. 131-137 are in the hand of Dr John David Rhys; and pp. 67-112, 139-152 are in the hand of John Powel of Talgarth, Breconshire (see pp. 67, 139; see also Peniarth MSS 27 and 45). P. 58 contains a note, 1611, in the hand of Roger Williams concerning 'the fees that goeth vpon any person in suinge owt his lyveryes', and on p. 61 is a note, 1617, in the same hand concerning the 'benefactors of the Cathedrall church of Landaphe'. Also included in the manuscript is a sermon 'in praise of theves' (p. 197), triads (pp. 200-201) and medical and veterinary recipes (pp. 199, 210b).

An early seventeenth century manuscript, fragile, written c. 1611-1621 and possibly earlier by Roger Williams, clerk, rector of the parish of St. Nicholas, co. Glamorgan [the scribe of parts of Llanstephan MS 41] and containing pedigrees, Welsh poetry, medical and veterinary recipes, etc. Roger Williams [TLLM, 41n, 213-4] was the son of Roger William of Prisk [in the parish of Llanddunwyd (Welsh St. Donats)] and he married Elinor Rees [daughter of Rhys Amheurug (Rees Merrick)]: his pedigree is on p. 27 of this manuscript (cf. Llanstephan MS 41, p. 173). A folio or folios are wanting at the beginning and someone has written the words 'The Isue [sic] of Gruffydd fawr [De Radyr]' opposite the first page (p. 4). An account of proceedings against [ ] Wrainham for presenting to the King a book called 'Revewe and Revivor of the Report of the Mr. of Rolls Phillips and the decree of my lord Chancellor', c. 1610; veterinary and medical recipes; and a tract entitled 'Shorte Articles by way of Instruccon concerninge the Dutye Office and Jurisdiction of the High Admirall of England collected out of the Lettres Pattents of that Office'.

A manuscript in three hands containing a treatise on arms addressed to Morgan Elfael (fl. c. 1528-1541) from Hywel ap Syr Mathew (d. 1581); also poetry, etc. Pp. 1-165 are in the autograph of Hywel ap Syr Mathew and were written in 1557 (cf. the writing in Peniarth MS 138 and Cardiff MS 51); pp. 167-194 are in a second hand and written about 1598; pp. 195-204 are in a third hand and were written about 1600. The poets whose works are cited include Dafydd ab Edmwnt, Siôn Cent, Gruffudd Hiraethog and Iolo Goch. The volume also contains medical recipes (pp. 166-170) and a chronicle of the reign of British rulers (p. 198).

The dates appended to many of the subjects in the text show that the binder is responsible for the present derangement of the folios.

Williams, The Court, Brecon, [18]63 (a request for a horoscope); medical prescriptions; a fragment of a Welsh carol; and a line-and-wash drawing of (or by?) John Lloyd Jones, Brecon College [afterwards minister successively of St. Davids and of Crwys and Pen-clawdd Congregational Churches] (endorsed 'Thos. Davies, Froodvale Academy, Carmarthenshire').

Farming account book originally belonging to David Evans of Ayngstree, Clifton-on-Teme, Worcestershire, who seems to have moved there from the Llandysul area of Cardiganshire. The volume comprises accounts, 1897-1915, of sales of farming produce and of wages and allowances to servants and labourers (ff. 1-31, 148 verso-67 verso, 173 verso-7); a few veterinary, household and culinary recipes (ff. 2, 16, 30 recto-verso, 31 verso-2); and family and other memoranda. There are also farming accounts and memoranda, 1943-1968, probably from the Llandysul area (ff. 33 verso-41 verso, 144-6 verso, 172-4).
