A volume of Crogen Iddon (Pontfadog, Denbighshire) provenance, written mainly during the second half of the seventeenth century. It contains pedigrees of North Wales families (including Owen of Crogen Iddon); 'cywyddau', etc., by Guto['r] Glyn, William Llyn, Davydd Llwyd ab Ll'n ab Gr., Euan Llafar, Lewis Mon, Thomas Price (Plas Iolyn), Gryffydd Phylib, Watkin Klywedog, Rees Kain, Ivan Clowedog, Sion Tvdyr, Ifan brydydd da, Sion Philip, Lewis Morganwc, David ap Rees, Edmund Prys, Sion Glyn ap Digan, Doctor Sion Cent, Morgan ap Hugh Lewis, Robt. The copious arithmetical calculations recorded in the margins are probably by John Edwards of Crogen Iddon, etc. (1755). Bound in at the end are six pages of notes on the volume in the hand of John Ceiriog Hughes ('Ceiriog'), 1880, together with an undated holograph letter from 'Ceiriog', Van Railway, Caersws to Nicholas Bennett [at Glanrafon, Trefeglwys].

Holograph poetry by John Hughes ('Ceiriog'; 1832-87), including a 'pryddest' entitled 'Paul o flaen Aggripa', 1849, and two series each of four 'englynion' in memory of Dr W. O[wen-] Pughe and [Robert Davies] ['Bardd Nantglyn'].

A small notebook containing 'penillion telyn' and other verses, some to be sung to the airs 'Lili Lon', 'Nos Galan', and 'Ar hyd y Nos'. Some of the verses appear in John Ceiriog Hughes: Oriau'r Hwyr. At the end of the volume the following note occurs: 'Some of the Sheets near the end of your (my) copy are out of place. D. Parry'. An inscription on the inside upper cover suggests that the notebook was originally intended as an account book of Messrs Reed & Owens with Messrs Whitney and Wilson, Barton Street, Liverpool.

The file comprises circular letters and appeals on behalf of various memorial and testimonial fund committees to commemorate Llywelyn ein Llyw Olaf, King Edward VII (Prince of Wales), Ceiriog, Mr Owen Owen, Pedrog, Hedd Wyn, Sir John Rhys, Eifionydd, and Lord Davies of Llandinam; and letters sent to the Cymmrodorion Secretary regarding a memorial to the late Joseph Edwards.

Manuscript and printed poetry collected by John Owen ('Owain Alaw'), including poems in the hand of John Ceiriog Hughes ('Ceiriog'), and Ellis Owen, Cefnymeusydd. Among other poets represented are John Jones ('Talhaiarn'); John Blackwell ('Alun'); Roger Edwards, Mold; Robert Parry ('Robin Ddu Eryri'); Edward Roberts ('Iorwerth Glan Aled'), etc. There is also (a) a cutting, from Yr Herald Cymraeg, of a letter, 26 March 1859, from Evan James ('Ieuan ap Iago'), Pontypridd, enclosing a copy of his 'Hen Wlad fy Nhadau', the first song to be sung to the tune 'Glan Rhondda', composed by his son James James, Harp Inn, Pontypridd; (b) a photograph of Owen Wynne Jones ('Glasynys'); and (c) a transcript of a 'Carol Nadolig', with comments by S[idney] A[urelius] J[ones], Ynys, St. Asaph. The items are mounted in a volume of Kearsley's Gentleman's and Tradesman's Pocket Ledger, 1844, containing some manuscript entries.

One of two volumes comprising a group of two hundred and twenty-four autograph letters and copies and fragments of letters covering the period 1823-1917 and addressed chiefly to 'Nefydd'. -- There are references to British Schools at Holywell, Abertillery, Llanelly, and Pantyphilip; a proposal to transfer Ellis Evans's Baptist manuscripts to Llangollen Baptist College; a proposal to publish the works of 'P.
