Used as the upper end paper is a fragment of an 18th century answer of Christopher Welcker the elder, one of the defendants to the bill of complaint of Wm. Sherlock and Frances, his wife, and James Blundell and Mary, his wife, complainants.

Distributed as follows ...', and 'Dr. Burton's Theory of the Millenium', lines entitled 'Contemplation on a River's Bank (From Eben Fardd)' by 'Bl. ab C.....n [i.e. a translation of 'Myfyrdod ar lan afon'], notes of an address or sermon in Welsh on education, and notes on the Hebrew alphabet, etc.

A notebook with clasp used as a commonplace-book by John Peter ('Ioan Pedr') c. 1851-56. The contents include 'englynion' headed 'Cyngor Goronwy Owain i Ellis y Cowper', verses entitled 'L'antienne Nationale' with a Welsh translation, the Lord's Prayer written in several languages, items of verse by [Thomas Edwards] 'Twm o'r Nant', [Walter Davies] 'Gwallter Mechain', [Elis Roberts] Ellis Cowper [sic], [Owen Griffith] Y. Meirion, Huw Morys, Glyn Ceiriog and R. A scribbling tablet in the hand of J. H. A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing extracts and notes largely from manuscripts in the British Museum, the National Library of Wales and Cardiff Free Library on the correspondence and pedigrees of the Morris brothers ('Morysiaid Môn') and Goronwy Owen ('o Fôn'); extracts from State Papers Domestic, 1656, recording augmentations of £100 a year each to Morgan Lloyd [Llwyd], preacher at Wrexham, and Ambrose Moston, preacher at Holt; and notes on the contents of Welsh manuscripts (Welsh E10 and Rawlinson 464) in the Bodleian Library. Among the insets is a transcript from the Court of Great Sessions records, Gaol File, spring 1753, of the deposition of George Evan of Cardigan, yeoman 'keeper of the common gaol', touching the imprisonment of Lewis Morris, gentleman.
