Preceding the text is a progressive list ('Tabl') of the 'carolau', 'cerddi', and 'cywyddau' contained in the volume. That the entire volume is based on a variety of sources is shown by the last entry inserted by the scribe: 'Yr ychydig o hen bethau hyn, a godais I allan o hen Lyfrau pan oeddwn mewn oriau Segur, rhag I Colli hwynt ...'. Inside the lower cover are printed 'Englynion Croesawiad Sior IV. 'Trwy Gymru' by [Hugh Jones] ('H. Erfyl'). There are a few minor entries in the hand of Mary Richards.

A manuscript of Morris Davies, Bangor containing a Welsh translation of an imperfect autobiography of Hugh Jones ('Erfyl'; 1789-1858) and a continuation of the biography by the scribe incorporating extracts from the diaries of Hugh Jones for the period 1820-3. The text represents pp. 281-94 of the biography of 'Erfyl' which appeared in Y Traethodydd, 1876. At the end of the volume is a short section entitled 'Miscellaneous' containing notes (1830) on such phrases as 'His Welsh blood is up', 'As long as a Welsh pedigree', 'Môn mam Cymru', etc. The English autobiography is in NLW MS 9029 and the four diaries in NLW MS 9024-7.

The correspondents include Jane Davies, daughter of 'Gwallter Mechain', 1858; Morris Davies, Upper Bangor, 1859-60; Evan Evans ('Ieuan Glan Geirionydd'), 1853-4; John Ceiriog Hughes ('Ceiriog'), 1863-7; John Jones ('Talhaiarn'), 1865; Brinley Richards, 1864 and undated; E[benezer] Thomas ('Eben Fardd'), 1860; Lady Mary Emily William Wynn, Wynnstay, 1865; and Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, 6th bart., Wynnstay, [1865]. There are also two letters from [Sir] C[harles] B[eaumont] Phipps, Windsor Castle, for H.M. The Queen, to Charles Hughes, publisher, Wrexham, 1863.
Among the subjects discussed, apart from 'Owain Alaw's musical interests and the dedication of his publications, are 'Gwallter Mechain's letters (by Jane Davies) and the proposed biography of Hugh Jones ('Erfyl) (by Morris Davies). Also included among the letters is a printed song - 'The Welcome Home, sung by the children of the Rhos-y-Medre and Rhosllanerchrugog National Schools on the occasion of the birth of an heiress to the noble House of Wynnstay', 1865.

A volume entitled 'The Nightingale Anthems, Choruses and Tune Book', containing compositions by G. F. Handel (including one sung to words by Hugh Jones ('Erfyl')); W. A. Mozart; J. Ambrose Lloyd; John Ellis, Llanrwst (arrangements by William Owen, Prysgol, and 'O[wain] Alaw'); Giacomo Carissimi; Owen Davies ('Eos Llechryd'); John Owen ('Owain Alaw'), including compositions to words by John Jones, ('Talhaiarn'), Edward Roberts ('Iorwerth Glan Aled'), John Jones ('Ioan Tegid'), and Hugh Jones ('Erfyl'), and a winning composition at the Tremadoc Eisteddfod, 1851; E[dward] Stephen ('Tanymarian'); Franz Joseph Haydn; John Mills ('Ieuan Glan Alarch'); John Roberts ('Ieuan Gwyllt'); Brinley Richards (to words by 'Talhaiarn'); and others. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen, and, to a lesser extent, by Thomas R. Williams, Bryn Tanad, Llanerfyl, to record transcripts of a list of British kings to George III ('Tabl o holl Frenhinodd Prydain or dechreiad Cyntaf hyd ein Brenin George y IIII) from the Almanac of Thomas Jones, Shrewsbury, 1709; poetry in strict and free metres by E[dward] J[ones] (Periglor Caer Einion) (1875), [Hugh Parry] (Cefni) (Utica, N.Y.)
