Music manuscripts, notebooks, papers relating to the National Museum of Wales and the University of Wales, and other miscellaneous material belonging to Dr Mary Davies (1855-1930) and her husband, W. Cadwaladr Davies (1849-1905). Amongst the papers is a later copy of a collection of Welsh airs, compiled and arranged by 'Orpheus' [James James] for the Eisteddfod at Llangollen, 1858 (now NLW Minor Deposit 150B).

A song book compiled by Myra Evans, Gilfachreda, Ceinewydd, with words and music for the following 16 Welsh songs: Myn Mair, Carol Nadolig, Oes Dyn, Sir Aberteifi, Suo-gan gwraig Pant Teg, Siaci Pantrhyn, Sian a Siencyn, Ffeirins, Y babi mawr, Hwyan Gerddi, Mae gen i, Y Ffeirad llawen, Y gwcw, Y cwch bach ar y lli, Pwy bryn fy mlodau, Dowch yn ddirwestwyr i gyd.

Llewelyn Alaw's Collection of Unpublished Welsh Airs

The 'Collection of Unpublished Welsh Airs' made by Thomas D. Llewelyn (Llewelyn Alaw), Aberdare, which won the prize at the Llangollen Eisteddfod of 1858.
An index of the contents by Nicholas Bennett is on pp. 36, 38. A copy of the Programme of Subjects and Prizes for the 1858 Eisteddfod is pasted in on p. 41.

The original collection of Welsh Airs compiled and arranged by 'Orpheus' [James James] for the Llangollen Eisteddfod of 1858 (ff. 1-29 verso). Further Welsh airs, all arranged by Isalaw, dated July-August 1888 and in a different hand, are on ff. 30-34.
On f. 23 is the second extant manuscript appearance of 'Glan Rhondda' (Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau), the first being in NLW, Evan James MS 1. Welsh airs

A collection of Welsh airs made by Thomas D. Llewelyn (Llewelyn Alaw) in 1855. The tunes are arranged in some cases with harp accompaniments. The words of some of the tunes are given on the last few pages.

Two music scores

The file comprises two books of sheet music entitled Welsh Folk songs/Caneuon Alaown Gwerin Cymru arranged by W. Hubert Davies and Alawon Gwerin Mon/Fold songs from Anglesey arranged by Grace Gwyneddon Davies.

Bundles of music manuscripts mostly in the hand of Iolo Morganwg, including a file of traditional music, previously 'IAW 145' (E1/1); manuscripts of a few further traditional tunes (E1/2); bundles of miscellaneous music manuscripts, including salmau, traditional music, English tunes, etc. (E1/3-5); and loose leaves originally belonging to a single tune book (E1/6).
The contents of E1/1 have been published in Alawon Gwerin Iolo Morganwg, ed. by Leila Salisbury (Aberystwyth, 2012), together with six further tunes (Nos. 4, 5, 17, 28, 40, 50) designated 'IAW 145 (uncat.)', all now to be found in E1/2.
