Phyllis Playter letters to Frederick Davies

Two hundred and eighty-eight letters, 1962-1978, from Phyllis Player to Frederick Davies, giving an account of John Cowper Powys shortly before his death in Blaenau Ffestiniog in June 1963 and discussing the posthumous growth of interest in his writings, particularly among members of Cambridge University. Some of the letters have been published in Frederick Davies, 'Recollections of John Cowper Powys and Phyllis Playter', The Powys Review, 19 (1986), 58-66, and 20 (1987), 47-57. Also included are a few letters from Phyllis Playter to Frederick Davies's mother.

'Frances and Jack 1912' by Oliver M. Wilkinson

A copy of a typescript account of the love affair between John Cowper Powys and Frances Wilkinson (née Gregg), incorporating extracts from their correspondence, [c. 1912], as well as from the letters of Louis Wilkinson, Ezra Pound and others. The work was compiled with a view to publication by Oliver Marlow Wilkinson, son of Frances and Louis Wilkinson.

Littleton C. Powys letters to Dinah White

Thirty-five letters and postcards, 1953-1955, to Dinah White from Littleton Charles Powys, brother of John Cowper Powys, mainly concerning Father Littleton Alfred Powys. Also included are a printed copy of Littleton Alfred's poem 'Ode to the West Wind' (1954) (ff. 12-13), an additional stanza of the 'Ode' transcribed by Dinah White but not included in the final version (f. 14), a set of typescript notes and comments on the 'Ode' (ff. 27-32), and a typescript copy of a poem by Pauline Clifft entitled 'Meeting' addressed to Littleton Charles's wife Elizabeth Myers (f. 4).

The items comprise obituaries of Littleton Alfred Powys, 1954 (ff. 1-2), and Littleton Charles Powys, 1955 (f. 3); The Shirburnian, 44.2 (Summer 1954), inscribed (f. 5) to Dinah White from John Cowper Powys, 8 August 1954, printing Littleton Alfred Powys's poem 'Ode to the West Wind'; The Beda Review, 7.8 (September 1955), inscribed 'For Dinah White from Littleton Powys Sept 9 1955' (inside front cover) and including an article on Littleton Alfred Powys; three issues of the Aylesford Review, 1.7 (Spring 1957) (articles (and reviews) on Elizabeth Myers, Littleton C. Powys and John Cowper Powys), 1.8 (Summer 1957) (an article on Littleton Alfred Powys), and 5.1 (Winter 1962-1963) (articles on Littleton Alfred Powys (one by Dinah White) and John Cowper Powys); A Review of English Literature, 4.1 (January 1963) (number in honour of John Cowper Powys); and a printed order of service, 1987, for Lucy Penny's funeral (on 10 November 1986), with a letter, 6 July 1987, to Dinah White from Lucy's son-in-law Gerard Casey (f. 166). Stage productions

Material relating to productions staged by Earthfall from 1984 to 2015, including solo productions by Earthfall co-founder Jessica Cohen. Items include theatre programmes, posters, flyers and tickets; creative and stage notes/directions; and press notices and reviews.

Tails East, Heads West

Tails East, Heads West, a performance combining dance, music, word and image, was inspired by Jessica Cohen's study of t'ai chi ch'uan in Taiwan in 1984. Items comprise printed theatre programmes and flyers; press notices; printed arts magazines; and reviews.

Forever and Ever

Forever and Ever was commissioned for the UK Year of Literature (1995) and was the result of Earthfall's collaboration with Irish author Jamie O'Neill. The show, which toured throughout Britain and Europe, explored themes of confinement and oppression, negotiation and compromise and was produced with the support of Amnesty International. Items comprise printed theatre and festival programmes (including material relating to the Festival of Theatre Confrontations held in Lublin, Poland), flyers and newsletters; press notices; creative notes; tour schedule; and reviews.

Too Old To Dream

Material relating to the ten-minute short film Too Old To Dream, the product of collaboration between Earthfall and an over-70s group in Blackwood, Caerphilly, South Wales. Scripted by Earthfall founder members Jessica Cohen and Jim Ennis, the film was based on a childhood memory of one of the cast members, about half of whom were over 75 years of age. Too Old To Dream was premiered in Cardiff in 1998 and subsequently shown at film festivals in England, Ireland and Europe. Items comprise printed film/festival programmes and arts newspapers; printed production agreement; final script; stage notes/directions; background notes written by cast members; details relating to location shooting; press cuttings; and correspondence.

Hodē Galatan

Material relating to Hodē Galatan, a multi-media production which combined ancient Greek song with contemporary images and movement in depicting a narrative of love and war. The show, premiered in Wales in 2003, was the product of a collaboration between Earthfall and Polish performance company Chorea which began a long-standing partnership between the two groups. Items comprise printed theatre programme and flyer; stage notes/directions; and creative notes.
