The manuscript is in two parts: The first part comprises medical recipes, mainly in English; and a rubric entitled 'Incipit compendium salernie que membris valent aut nocent'. The second part comprises a fragment of a medical treatise.

A volume containing notes of a very miscellaneous nature in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') except for a few pages in the hand of Taliesin Williams, his son. Included, pagination in brackets, are a brief note relating to the 'short and simple and thence natural account of the Welsh Saints' and a reference to the possibility of the existence of documents relating to 'British Ecclesiastic history' at the Vatican (1); notes headed 'Llyma Enwau Swrn o Wyr Enwogion o Genedl y Cymry . . .' being notes on figures of Welsh mythology presumably extracted (see note on p. 5) from Welsh School Collection MS No. 43 ( listed as missing when the Welsh School Collection was presented to the British Museum in 1844, see B.M. An early seventeenth century manuscript, fragile, written c. 1611-1621 and possibly earlier by Roger Williams, clerk, rector of the parish of St. Nicholas, co. Glamorgan [the scribe of parts of Llanstephan MS 41] and containing pedigrees, Welsh poetry, medical and veterinary recipes, etc. Roger Williams [TLLM, 41n, 213-4] was the son of Roger William of Prisk [in the parish of Llanddunwyd (Welsh St. Donats)] and he married Elinor Rees [daughter of Rhys Amheurug (Rees Merrick)]: his pedigree is on p. 27 of this manuscript (cf. Llanstephan MS 41, p. 173). A folio or folios are wanting at the beginning and someone has written the words 'The Isue [sic] of Gruffydd fawr [De Radyr]' opposite the first page (p. 4). The contents, except where otherwise stated, consist of genealogical data relating to the persons or places specified as follows: p. 8, part of an account mentioning Pwllymyn, etc.; 9, the issue of Lle'n ap Kynwrige; 10, a 'cywydd' by Rys Brychan; 12, a 'cywydd' by Howel ap Davyd ap Ievan ap Rees; 14, mention of William Thomas, son of Thomas Gwilim Jenkin of Gwern ddy in the parish of St. Brids near Abergenvenye [sic]; 16, a copy of a general release, 1613, from Elizabeth Howell of Welshe St. Donettes, co. A notebook containing medical, culinary, veterinary and other recipes, together with some farming memoranda of the period 1832-1833.

A seventeenth and early eighteenth century manuscript of Welsh and English poetry, medical recipes, prophecies attributed to Myrddin and Taliesin, triads, and later additions of a miscellaneous nature. The volume is in several hands, and some of the additions seem to be in the autograph of Richard Wiliams, soap boiler, of Abergavenny. According to a note on the cover (see 561, below) it belonged to the Catholic Chapel, Abergavenny, and much of the contents is of Catholic interest. The free-metre poems include a satire upon legal proceedings (in a mixture of Welsh and English), a dialogue in two hundred and twenty-three stanzas of 'triban' metre between a Catholic and a Protestant, a poem consoling members of the Holy Church in persecution, a poem in 'triban' metre by Henry Williams, a Christmas carol, and an elegy on the death of David Lewis, Catholic martyr, 1679. The poems in strict metres contain 'cywyddau' by Sion y Kent, Ievan Deylwyn, Lewis Glynn Kothi, Ievan Tew Brydydd, Robin Du o Fon, Rys Nanmor and others, and a number of 'englynion' in Welsh and English, including satires upon Puritans. The English poems include 'An Hymne on our Saviour Christ's Ascension' and 'An Epitaph vpon the Death of John Pym'. The miscellaneous material at the beginning of the volume includes material of Brecknockshire interest; a presentment of Popish recusants in Monkstreet ward in the town of Abergavenny, 1709; medical recipes; and a precept relating to the House of Correction in Brecknockshire, 1670.

A volume containing sermons and notes of sermons written by James Walters, Saron, Llangeler, co. Carmarthen, 1833-1834, together with a few medical prescriptions and memoranda. Two of the sermons bear the name of James Lewis, Laugharne.

An account of proceedings against [ ] Wrainham for presenting to the King a book called 'Revewe and Revivor of the Report of the Mr. of Rolls Phillips and the decree of my lord Chancellor', c. 1610; veterinary and medical recipes; and a tract entitled 'Shorte Articles by way of Instruccon concerninge the Dutye Office and Jurisdiction of the High Admirall of England collected out of the Lettres Pattents of that Office'.

An eighteenth century manuscript consisting of miscellaneous material in the hand of the Reverend Edward Gamage [rector of the parish of St. Athan, co. Glamorgan, 1717-1734] with additions in later eighteenth century hands (see TLLM, tt. 106-07; IM, t. 309; and IMCY, tt. 58-60, 68, 171). In Edward Gamage's own hand are transcripts of Welsh strict- and free-metre poems by Thomas Morgan 'o Dilla garw', Hopkin y Gwaedd 'o Fargam', Rob. Tho[ma]s 'o Sant y Bryd', Thomas Leyshon o'r Prysg', Miles W[illia]m, Thomas W[ilia]m 'o Dregolwyn', Thomas Llewelyn, vicar of Llancarvan, Dafydd Thomas 'o blwyf y Bettws', and Llewelyn ab Iefan, a copy of a letter in Welsh, 23 November 1726, from the said Edward Gamage himself from Sant Athan, to Llewelyn ab Iefan of the parish of Llangrallo [co. Glamorgan], poet, in reply to a request for genealogical information relating to the Stradling family, and, at the reverse end of the volume, 'A Continuation of ye Exposition of ye Church Catechism for ye use of ye Children of ye Parish of Lantwitt Major by E. Four imperfect, printed leaves from a ? seventeenth century edition of metrical psalms with prayers for use in private houses have been bound in at the end of the volume.

An incomplete volume containing notes and transcripts of printed lectures and papers on medical subjects, 1814-1837 and undated, and medical prescriptions.

A book of sermons written in 1610. A receipt by John Jones, clerk, to 'Mr Morgan', vicar of Llanhasaph [i.e. Llanasa], 8 December 9 James I [1611], entered in the book suggests that it belonged to Evan Morgan, nephew of Bishop William Morgan. There are tithe and building accounts in the original hand. Later entries include lists of children of the Corwen and Gwyddelwern districts attending a local school, medical recipes and a copy of a brief on behalf of John Jones of Aberdaron, miller. In the middle of the eighteenth century the manuscript belonged to Evan Thomas, Cwmhwylfod.

Collections of medical recipes and miscellaneous items, including copies of a prophecy by Merlinus de Albania concerning the six last kings of England, and the second prophecy of Mother Shipton; 'Rheolau ynghylch Llafuriaeth neu Hwsmonaeth'; 'gwers i stopio gwaed, 1634'; verses beginning 'Drwy fy ngwsyg i rwi yn dy weled'; a fragment of a 'cywydd brud' beginning 'Breuddwydion beir a ovdwyd'; 'englynion'; a sheet out of a pedigree manuscript containing also four lines of a 'cywydd' by Richard Kynwal, and a return of land tax for the township of Cynlas, 1766.

A book of forms for compiling a register of freeholders, 1788, under An Act for the better securing the rights of Persons qualified to vote at County Election, with an incomplete copy of the Act and its schedules; medical recipes; an anecdote relating to St Peter crying at the gate of Jerusalem; an elegy on the death of Kydwalader Jones, Rhuwarth by John Cain [? Jones]; and the certificate of ordination of William Roberts at Pennal, 13 June 1839.

An abstract of a work on music; an incomplete criticism of a theological work; extracts from a book on logic by Crellius; medical notes and recipes; and an imperfect copy of a tract, by Ja[mes] Do[w]son, on the union of England and Scotland, dedicated to James I.

Pp. 7-58, 61-66, 171-210 are in the hand of Roger Williams, assistant to Bishop William Morgan (1545-1604); pp. 131-137 are in the hand of Dr John David Rhys; and pp. 67-112, 139-152 are in the hand of John Powel of Talgarth, Breconshire (see pp. 67, 139; see also Peniarth MSS 27 and 45). P. 58 contains a note, 1611, in the hand of Roger Williams concerning 'the fees that goeth vpon any person in suinge owt his lyveryes', and on p. 61 is a note, 1617, in the same hand concerning the 'benefactors of the Cathedrall church of Landaphe'. Also included in the manuscript is a sermon 'in praise of theves' (p. 197), triads (pp. 200-201) and medical and veterinary recipes (pp. 199, 210b).

Glamorgan, with a Welsh translation thereof.
