Miscellaneous tracts

A manuscript containing scholastic tracts including disputations on Aristotle's 'De Anima' said to have been collected by Master Benedict and pronounced by the Master Regent of 'Fragfordie' [sic] in 1418; treatises on 'ars algoristica', physiology, and astronomy; 'liber de causis', probably the work of David Iudaeus [David ben Yom Tov]; 'comptus norembergensis'; and fragments of other texts, including a sheet containing verses beginning 'lumina lauas surgens gelida manus vnda' (cf. Schola Salerni).

A composite volume in three parts, dated to the late-fifteenth century (pp. 1-32), 1650 (pp. 33-48) and the eighteenth century (pp. 49-102), containing astrological material (pp. 2, 15-16, 95-98, 26-32); names of plants in Latin and Welsh (p. 3); charms (pp. 4-6); the Paternoster, with every sentence explained (p. 7b); theological tracts (pp. 10-14); a commentary on the Prophecies, dated 5 May 1650 (pp. 33-48); fragments of Bruts (pp. 49-64, 71-74, 83-94); a list of the hundreds and commotes of Wales (pp. 99-100) and of the parishes of Carmarthenshire (pp. 101-102); etc.
On p. 6 is the note 'Gruff: llwyd ap Madoc Dd. a wnaeth y llyvyr hwnn i T. ap howel'.

North Wales rentals

A composite volume containing rentals and miscellaneous papers relating to crown rents in North Wales, comprising: a list of tenants and tenements and their chief rents in Llanfrothen, lands in Isgwyrfai, and rents in various charges, 1638 (pp. 1-42); a terrier of the King's land in Penmaen and Llysfaen viewed and written by William Lloyde of Nanlley, 1605, and the names of the jury that found the lands in Llysfaen, 4 January 17 Eliz. Thelwall-Wynne agreement

A copy of articles of agreement concluded at Berain, 5 January 1581/2, between Thomas Salesbury of Lleweny and John Wynn of Gwedyr, esquires, and Symon Thelwall, esquire, and Edward Thelwall, his son and heir apparent, touching a double marriage arranged between Edward Thelwall and Katherine Wynne, widow, and between Symon Thelwall, junior, and Jane Wynne, daughter of Maurice Wynne, deceased.

A manuscript in the hand of [?the Rev. John Pryce] (see Llanstephan MS 187) containing proverbs, 'mesureu kerd', etc. It is a copy of the same original as Peniarth MS 155, pp. 3-168.

North Wales rentals

A collection of North Wales rentals including particulars of the lands of Hugh Gwyn Bodvill in Caernarvonshire examined by William Wynne and John Pigott (pp. 1-4); an annotated rental of crown lands in Anglesey, 1632 (pp. 9-20, 5-8); and extents of the vill of Berayn (2 unnumbered ff.) and of the lordship of Ruthyn and Dyffryn Clwyd (pp. 21-84). All the items, with the exception of the first, are in the hand of Robert Lloyd, surveyor of crown lands in North Wales.

A dictionary of navigation

'A breife abstract, exposicon, and true demonstration of all parts and thinges belonginge to a Ship and the practique of Navigation' by H.M. (pp. 15-174), with a list of contents (pp. 3-10) and preface (pp. 11-14).
Also in the volume (pp. 1-2) is a leaf in the hand of Evan Evans (ieuan Fardd) from a history of Sir Rhys ap Thomas, which appears to belong between pp. 156 and 157 of NLW MS 2038D.

A manuscript containing 'A Short View of the Long Life of Sir Rice [Rhys] ap Thomas K.G.'. The text of this manuscript is fuller and more correct than that printed in the Cambrian Register, 1 (1795), pp. 49-144, but breaks off with the appointment of Sir Rice ap Thomas as Justiciar of South Wales (pp. i-xviii, 1-139, 145-151).
There are marginalia giving, here and there, references to original documents. There is also a continuation to the manuscript by Evan Evans (pp. 139-144, 152-159), who states: 'There was another chapter of this curious history as appears by a shred of a leaf still remaining of the Author's autograph ... I have collated this MS. [i.e. 2038D] carefully with the Author's MS. which I am sorry to say is imperfect' (p. 158).

A transcript, [?1699] (p. 1), of the extent of Anglesey made before John de Delves, locumtenens of Richard Earl of Arundel, justiciar of North Wales, 26 Edward III (1352) (pp. 1-88); a list of freeholders of Anglesey, 1606 (pp. 1-30); an account of the gentry of Anglesey, arranged by commotes, and a list of sheriffs to 1676, both in the hand of William Williams, Beaumaris, but with earlier pedigrees incorporated (pp. 1-94); 'a note taken of the demeanes nowe heald and belonginge to the Heanllis' (pp. 95-96); and a note of a survey of the lands of Arthur Bagnall in Tyndaethwy and Menai (pp. 99-102).
