Lewes family probate records, settlements and executor’s trusts

Probate records and family settlements of the Lewes family of Coedmor and Abernantbychan, together with other papers proving the title and possession of the Lewes and Pryse families to the Abernantbychan estate, 1599-1770; one file relates to trusts undertaken by Walter Pryse as executor of the wills of Thomas Earl of Thanet and others between 1721 and 1739.

Misc. deeds and documents

Miscellaneous deeds and documents relating to freehold and leasehold properties of the Owen and Ormsby Gore families of Brogyntyn at various locations in Wales and England, mainly Salop (Shropshire), Caernarfonshire, Merioneth, Denbighshire, Montgomeryshire, Berkshire, Essex, London and Cornwall, [1600x1899], 1729-1937, and one file concerning the pension of Gwilym Maeran P. Jones of Oswestry, 1968-1977. The various properties include the Trewylan estate, Montgomeryshire, 1748, a leasehold in Welbeck Street, Marylebone, 1760-1806, Brentwood, Essex, 1777, Pentre David, Selatyn, 1777, 1821, Fron, Cernybwch and the Hills, Porkington and Selatyn, 1808-1819, Little Forsters, Egham, Surrey, 1802, Canister House, Datchet, 1805, lands in Stoke Poges and Wexham, Buckinghamshire, 1810-1823, fields in Sithney in the manor of Peventon, Cornwall, 1828-1830, Drenewydd estate, Oswestry and Whittington, 1829, premises in Oswestry and Selatyn leased for brick-making purposes, 1832-1847, and Tetworth House, Sunninghill, Berkshire, 1863. Families mentioned include Owen and Ormsby Gore of Brogyntyn, Owen of Woodhouse, Lloyd of Aston and Jackson of Pentre David. There are also sundry legal cases, 1767-1819, a description of the manor of Broniarth, 1773 (ref. 64/2), useful abstracts of title, abstracts of family settlements and of wills of the Owen and Ormsby Gore family and others, 1729-182, and a schedule of deeds compiled by Longueville and Co., [1896x1904].

Cheshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, etc. deeds and documents

Deeds and documents found with the Gogerddan etate records, relating to properties in several English counties: Cheshire, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Lancashire, Salop and Worcestershire, 1600-1845. The most substantial of these is a bundle of leases by the Prestwich family of Hulme, Lancashire, of properties in Sholver near Oldham 1600-1652. The series also includes a faculty granted to Walter Pryse for two pews in Pitchcombe church, Gloucestershire, 1729; and the lease by Edward Earl of Powis and John Probert of Copthorn of an allotment out of the common land at Llwyntidman, Salop, 1814.

Panton papers

Manuscripts and papers, [1600x1606]-1822, from the collections of Paul Panton at Plas Gwyn, Anglesey. They comprise correspondence of both the elder and younger Paul Panton, containing antiquarian, political and legal material, including matters relating to both Pantons' Flintshire interests in lead mines, colliery undertakings, navigation of the River Dee, railways, smelting works, etc., and matters relating to public responsibilities such as building works, schools and coastal security, mainly in Anglesey; papers relating to the Panton family and their estate and to Plas Gwyn estate; further material relating mainly to Anglesey and Flintshire, such as pedigrees, histories, charters and documents regarding land tenure and other legal matters, some of which is in the hand of William Williams, antiquary, of Beaumaris; manuscripts of or relating to antiquarian and literary figures such as Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt, Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd), Thomas Pennant and Richard Fenton; other legal papers, including Anglesey crown pleas, a volume of legal precedents and a dictionary of law terms; etc.

Deeds and documents

Mainly items dated 1603-1650, but including a group of deeds dated 1624-1699. See also no's 11723 (miscellaneous volume, including abstracts of leases granted in co. Glos. and elsewhere and estreats of surrenders and admissions in the manors of Wollaston and Tudenham, co. Glos., 17 cent.), 11750 (tabulated abstracts of leases granted in the manors of Woollaston and Tudenham, co. Glos., and Chaldon Herring, Dorset, 17-early 18 cent.), 11804 (copy will of William Jones of London bequeathing money for a preacher and charity in p. Newland, Gloucester, 1614), and 11747 (letters patent relating to the lordships and commotes of Kidwellie, Carnonowlen, and Iskennen, co. Carm., and lands in several English cos., temp. Chas. I), all in the co. Mon. section.

Salesbury family settlements and wills

Settlements of the Salesbury and Goodman families, 1602-1660, the trust of the execution of the will of Edward Vaughan of Llwydiarth by Gabriel Salesbury, 1670-1671, and a copy of the will of Lumley Salesbury, 1741.

Montgomeryshire county administration papers

Papers deriving from county administration in Montgomeryshire, 1603-1661, 1893-1929, reflecting the publc role of the families of Pryse of Gogerddan and Pughe of Mathafarn within the county. The majority of the papers are seventeenth century and include a petition against the mise in Arwsytli and Cyfeiliog, [1603x1612] and papers relating to the offices of sheriff, coroner and deputy lieutenant, 1603-1661. There are also a few papers of Montgomeryshire Rural District Council and County Council concerning sanitary nuisances and a job applcation, 1893-1929.

Papers of sheriffs, bailiffs, gaolers, JPs and militia

Papers relating to the administration of law and order in Cardiganshire through the offices of sheriff, bailiffs, gaoler, justices of the peace and the local militia., 1603-1896. They include appointments to those offices, 1603-1859, sheriff’s accounts, 1861-1862. and lists of JPs, [pre-1746], 1844. Of particular interest are two assignments to the new sheriffs, which name certain individuals in custody, 1603, 1628.
