A medical student's notebook, [?1860s], containing mostly medical notes and medicinal recipes.
The volume includes notes on scarlet fever (f. 30 recto-verso), on typhoid fever, taken mostly from Thomas Hawkes Tanner's Manual of the Practice of Medicine (see 5th edn (London, 1965), pp. 166-171) (ff. 35 verso-38 verso), and on the pelvic bones and female regenerative organs, taken from Fleetwood Churchill's On the Theory and Practice of Midwifery (see 3rd edn (London and Dublin, 1855), pp. 2-52 passim) (ff. 40 verso-62); as well as general 'Notes on Clinical Surgery', concerning bone fractures and various other conditions, with repeated references to Drs Cameron and Morton (ff. 67-79). Also included are medicinal recipes for stimulants, tonics, alteratives and antacids (ff. 32 verso-34 verso); extracts from the 'Royal Free Hospital Pharmacopoe[i]a' (ff. 63-66 verso, Latin); and horse and cattle medicines (ff. 25-28).

An account of proceedings against [ ] Wrainham for presenting to the King a book called 'Revewe and Revivor of the Report of the Mr. of Rolls Phillips and the decree of my lord Chancellor', c. 1610; veterinary and medical recipes; and a tract entitled 'Shorte Articles by way of Instruccon concerninge the Dutye Office and Jurisdiction of the High Admirall of England collected out of the Lettres Pattents of that Office'.

An early seventeenth century manuscript, fragile, written c. 1611-1621 and possibly earlier by Roger Williams, clerk, rector of the parish of St. Nicholas, co. Glamorgan [the scribe of parts of Llanstephan MS 41] and containing pedigrees, Welsh poetry, medical and veterinary recipes, etc. Roger Williams [TLLM, 41n, 213-4] was the son of Roger William of Prisk [in the parish of Llanddunwyd (Welsh St. Donats)] and he married Elinor Rees [daughter of Rhys Amheurug (Rees Merrick)]: his pedigree is on p. 27 of this manuscript (cf. Llanstephan MS 41, p. 173). A folio or folios are wanting at the beginning and someone has written the words 'The Isue [sic] of Gruffydd fawr [De Radyr]' opposite the first page (p. 4). Towards the end of the volume there are short texts such as englynion in Latin, 'llyma gas bethav Owain Kyveiliog', 'xxiiij gwell', 'Geirie gwir Taliesin', triads, proverbs, the nine grades of kinship, medical recipes, 'Llyma henwau y pedair Caingc ar ddeg Cydwgan a Cyhelyn', and 'Henwau'r pedwar Gosdeg Cerdd dannau'. The greater part of the manuscript was written in the seventeenth century; but there are additions and marginal notes to the nineteenth century. There is an index ('Tabl y llyfr') to ff. 1--76, in a seventeenth century hand. Between ff. 4 and 6 are inserted two leaves (pp. 129-30, 135-6) of David Jones (Trefriw) (ed.): Cydymaith Diddan (Caer Lleon [1766]).

A fragment of a tract on the war between England and France; a portion of 'the tretice off housbondry that Master Grosthed [Grosseteste] mad the which was Bischope of Lyncolne ...'; a metrical story of Saint Gregory and his mother; miscellaneous cookery recipes; 'a good book off keruynge and servis vnto a prince ...'; and medical recipes.

A large volume used as a diary for entries, 1839-1861, 'A Book of Diaries made by Joseph Jenkins of Blaenplwyf ...'. These are brief entries, with many unused pages, and do not cover a whole year. Inside the front covers are some medical and other recipes. On the last page genealogical details of his children's births are given.

Notebook, 1816-1839, apparently of Thomas Jenkins, Caerfarchell, parish of St. Davids, Pembrokeshire, containing overseers' and farming accounts, and other memoranda.

Farming account book originally belonging to David Evans of Ayngstree, Clifton-on-Teme, Worcestershire, who seems to have moved there from the Llandysul area of Cardiganshire. The volume comprises accounts, 1897-1915, of sales of farming produce and of wages and allowances to servants and labourers (ff. 1-31, 148 verso-67 verso, 173 verso-7); a few veterinary, household and culinary recipes (ff. 2, 16, 30 recto-verso, 31 verso-2); and family and other memoranda. There are also farming accounts and memoranda, 1943-1968, probably from the Llandysul area (ff. 33 verso-41 verso, 144-6 verso, 172-4).
