Llyvyr y Llwythau Cymreig ...,

A volume written largely in the autograph of Ebenezer Thomas, ('Eben Fardd') and described on the title-page as 'Llyvyr y Llwythau Cymreig yn cynwys Taflenau Achol o'r Pum Llwyth Breninol a Phymtheg Llwyth Gwynedd ynghyd a Byrdraith hanesiol am Sylfaenwyr yr amrywiol Lwythau a Gwroniaid Cymreig eraill Eu Preswylfeydd, Tiriogaethau, Paisarfau a Disgynyddion. Casgledig gan Ebenezer Thomas, Clynnog, Hâf 1843.' At the beginning of the volume are 'A Map of North Wales' [Anglesey and West Caernarvonshire] and a list of the contents to p. 69. More than half of the volume is blank but the written pages after p. 69 contain, among other things, details of 'Villas [Vills] in Eifionydd' ('Abridged from a letter of the Rev. J. Jones Llanllyfni to Ellis Owen Esq. Cefny meusydd'), pedigrees of Rhwngyddwyryd (Dolbenmaen), Rhiw and Bodfel (Llŷn), and Cefn Coch in Anglesey, etc., 'Carol Nadolig, 1859 - ar "Diolch i Ti yr Hollalluog Dduw &c"' by E. Thos ('Eben Fardd'), a petition (draft), undated, from Jane Jones of Penarfynydd in the parish of Abererch, Caernarvonshire to the bishop of Bangor and the other trustees of the Llandwrog Almshouses, particulars of the ancestry of Tho[ma]s E. Roberts, Hendre, Abereirch sent by him to Eben Fardd, 24 July 1861, and a printed prospectus, undated, of 'The Works of the Bards of Llyn and Eifionydd, collected by Myrddin Fardd'. Loose between pp. 27 and 28 are notes by J. Jones, Llanllyfni, May 1844, headed 'A. D. 1352. Hanes ardrethol Cwmmwd Isgorfai', and pasted on to these or vice versa is a printed sheet concerning Gwydir Chapel, Llanrwst (J. Jones, Printer, Llanrwst). Facing the title-page of the volume is a label bearing the words 'Llyfr Achau ac Arfbeisiau y 5 Llwyth Breninol a 15 Llwyth Pendefigol Gwynedd ynghyd au Disgynyddion, &c.' and above it John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') has written 'Costiodd y Llyfr yma i mi ddwy bunt heblaw talu am ei rwymo wedi hyny.'

Letters written to John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). The writers include E[dward] Anwyl, Aberystwyth, 1899 (thanks for present, the writer is greatly interested in Caernarvonshire antiquities), Reverend J[ohn] J[ones] Davies, Llanfihangel y Pennant Rectory, 1906 (he will do his best to trace the recipient's 'Geirlyfr Bywgraffiadol o Enwogion Cymru'), Reverend E[van] Evans, Llansadwrn Rectory [Anglesey], 1904 (Salesbury of Rûg and Vaughan of Llwydiarth pedigrees), William George, Criccieth, 1889-90 (2) (the recipient's attempt to trace copies of the 'Llyfrau Gleision' [Blue Books], requesting the recipient's observations on the enclosed), H[enry] Hughes, Brynkir Station, [18]94-5 (2) (the writer's offer to the recipient for a letter of Peter Williams, etc.), Rob[er]t Ivey, bookbinder, Pen-y-groes, North Wales, 1918 (the delivery of a book), M[ary] I[sabella] Jones-Parry, Aberdunant, Tremadoc and from Plas Tregayan, Llangefni, 1884-5 and undated (18) (the receipt of copies of the recipient's Adgof uwch Anghof, the purchase by the writer of a transcript by the recipient of the Tai Croesion MS, the mutual exchange of books and the loan of manuscripts by the recipient to the writer, critical comments on [J. Y. W. Lloyd] The History .... of Powys Fadog, thanks for a present of dishes, the possibility of publication of the recipient's works by the Cymmrodorion Society, a request for the loan of a Wynnstay MS for transcribing, Caernarvonshire heraldry and pedigrees, the descent of the writer's title to Aberdunant, the delay in publishing the recipient's 'Antiquities' and 'Enwogion Lleyn', discouraging the publication of the diary of [Ebenezer Thomas] 'Eben Fardd'), M. P. Morris, Carnarvon, 1903 (delighted to hear addressee had received a gift from the Government, the forthcoming publication of [Gleanings from God's Acre]), John F. Owen, Aberdunant, Tremadoc, 1884 (5) (the writer's family pedigrees, the publication of Adgof uwch Anghof, the loan of books and manuscripts to the writer by the addressee), A[braham] Jones Williams, Gellewig [sic], Pwllheli, 1886 (requesting an English translation of an extract from Lewis Dwnn), M. Williams, Gellewig Hall, Pwllheli, 1886 (the return of books), and W. Llewelyn Williams, House of Commons, 1918 (thanks for books). Included at the end are letters from W. M. Hughes, Bangor to E. Thomas ['Eben Fardd'], 1853 (thanks for an English translation of a song by the writer, unfavourable prospects for the Bangor eisteddfod, the writer's taking of Nant-y-Bettws Quarry), and Richard Parry ('Gwalchmai'), Llandudno to G. Lewis, 1879 (eisteddfod compositions).

Achau, etc.

A composite volume, originally owned by Owen Williams ('Owain Gwyrfai'), Waun-fawr, with copious insets, containing a folio (pp. [655]-656) from Baner Cymru, October 20 1858; a section ('Ordevices', cols 777-840) from William Camden: Britannia (? 1722 edition) with a map of North Wales by Robt. Norden (? from the 1695 edition); two keys to 'Coelbren y Beirdd', the one undoubtedly and the other probably in the hand of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg'); extensive transcripts of Caernarfonshire and other North Wales pedigrees, mainly in the hands of Owen Williams and John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'); and imperfect notes relating to the history and endowments of the Free School, Dolgellau.

Llyfr Achau Cyf. VI,

A composite volume containing pedigrees in the autograph of Ebenezer Thomas (Eben Fardd; 1802-1863). There are two main sections, both indexed: (A) 'Llyfr Achau amryw Deuluoedd yn Neheubarth a Gwynedd. Adysgrifiwyd genyf fi Ebenezer Thomas 1843'; (B) 'Several of the Carnarfonshire Pedigrees with some others. Copied by Ebenezer Thomas from accredited Authorities 1846', with some later additions by 'Eben Fardd' and one or two loose papers, not all in his hand. Inserted between pp. 74 and 75 in the first section are verses 'On the proposed Restoration of Clynnog Church by the "Archeological Association", 1847 ...' by 'Ebenezer Thomas, Bard; Clynnog Vawr'. At the end of the volume preceding some blank leaves are seven folios, the first of which is headed 'A Next of Kin Investigation' (concerning Erasmus Lloyd). These contain a pedigree of the descendants of Allan Lloyd of Freystrop, Pembrokeshire, exhibited by (?)Erasmus Thomas, Penygelli near Carnarvon and copied by E[benezer Thomas], 29 May 1843, at the Crown & Anchor, Carnarvon, genealogical notes concerning the Lloyds of Penamser, [Ynyscynhaearn], extracts relating to legal actions, 1843, involving the Tremadoc Estate, 'The Family Register of Ebenezer Thomas of Clynnog', lines entitled 'On the Death of my Mother' composed by Ebenezer Thomas 'after his beloved mother who died March 12: 1821', and a pedigree chart, with notes, showing the descent of Ebenezer Thomas through his maternal grandmother from the Lloyds of Penamser. The volume has been annotated here and there by John Jones (Myrddin Fardd).
