The volume was was originally used by Cybi, [c. 1906], to write autograph poetry in Welsh, now mostly obscured by the cuttings.

Papers of the Rev. David Glanaman Jones, Pontardawe, 1887-[1946x1951]. including notebooks, 1887-1942, [1946x1951], containing poetry, including some by his brothers, together with some sermon notes and addresses; other poems and addresses, [20 cent., first ½]; papers, 1906-1932, collected while researching and writing Cofiant Cranogwen (Caernarfon, 1932); and papers relating to the family of Mrs D. G. Jones.

A manuscript album, entitled 'An Omnium Gatherum' (f. 1 verso), compiled during the 1820s (dated 1822 and 1826 on ff. 73 verso, 106) by Harriette Grant (1789-1863; later Harriette Wingfield Stratford), daughter of Henry Grant (1743-1831) of Gnoll Castle, Glamorgan. The volume includes literary excerpts, antiquarian notes, riddles, and poems, written in English, French and Welsh, together with numerous well-executed watercolur, ink and pencil studies, some noted as being 'after Rembrandt' (ff. 1 verso, 7 verso, 10, 16, 17 verso).
The drawings include views of the Vale of Ebbw from Abercarne (f. 5), Neath Castle (f. 40), view from the fishing stool at Gnoll (f. 41 verso), Llantwit Church from the terrace at Gnoll Castle (f. 58), the upper lodge at Gnoll (f. 69), part of the chapel of Neath Abbey (ff. 78 verso, 80), Arthur's Stone in Gower (f. 81 verso), a female Glamorgan peasant (f. 98), a male Welsh peasant (f. 99), Briton Ferry Church (f. 100 verso), a female peasant (f. 104), Gnoll Castle (f. 105 verso), and Melin Crython (f. 160).

Twenty-two notebooks and bundles, 1817-[1839], containing notes and memoranda by Taliesin on a variety of subjects. The volumes comprise notebooks, 1817-[1839] (T2/8, 10) and undated (T2/1-6, 12-15); bundles of miscellaneous loose papers (kept in old covers) (T2/7, 9, 11); old covers with no contents (T2/16-17); and notebooks relating to Welsh Triads (T2/18-22, as well as parts of T2/10).

Three paper rolls, on rollers, containing four cywyddau by Iolo Morganwg, dated 1799-1810 (E10/1), Welsh poetry by Iolo, including over 100 englynion and forty-two dyrïau, dated 1778-1816 (E10/2) and Iolo's bardic alphabet, [c. 1817] (watermark 1815) (E10/3); together with another blank roll and an empty roller (E10/4-5). Also in the box is a bundle of papers containing a 'Survey for Mr Davies Pantysgallog', [1824] (E10/6); a few miscellaneous maps and drawings (E10/7); and three scraps of parchment, one containing a miniature painting of some goats (E10/8-10).

Miscellaneous notes broadly relating to Welsh and Glamorgan history, Welsh literature and related subjects. They comprise: bundles of loose papers (T3/1-2) and notebooks (T3/3-14) containing notes and memoranda on a variety of historical subjects, including Bonedd y Saint; notebooks and loose notes on Welsh poetry and poets (T3/15-18); miscellaneous notes on sayings, idioms, etc. (T3/19); a few recipes for ink and toothache (T3/20); miscellaneous fragments, together with three maps drawn on tissue paper (T3/21); a bundle of annotated wrappers used by Taliesin to sort some of his and his father's papers (T3/22 – see also T13/7); six booklets, 1838-1839, containing extracts from manuscripts relating to Wales at the British Museum and Bodleian Library (T3/23); a bundle of foolscap sheets containing mostly genealogical texts relating to Welsh saints and legendary figures (T3/24); and a transcript of a lecture on Oriental languages 'Delivered by Professor [Duncan] Forbes at K[ing's] C[ollege] London', November 1837 (T3/25).

Two bundles of Welsh and English poetry mostly by, or in the hand of, Iolo Morganwg, 1776-[1826] (E6/1-2), and three notebooks containing poetry and some prose, [late 18 cent.]-1822 (E6/3-5); together with bundles of loose papers containing miscellaneous word lists (E6/6-7), Welsh Triads (E6/8), and medicinal, food and other recipes, 1776-1821 (E6/9).

A copy of Evan Evans, Some Specimens of the Poetry of the Antient Welsh Bards. Translated into English ... (London, 1764), corrected by the author and presented by him to Paul Panton the Elder; together with a letter, 1765, from J[ohn] Whitaker, 'Fellow of C.C.C. Oxford', to Evan Evans.

A composite volume mostly in the autograph of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd), containing poetry by Dafydd ap Gwilym, Cynddelw, Guto'r Glyn and Ieuan Fardd and others, some of it 'collected by Dr. Davies of Mallwyd ... [and] transcribed from a MS. which belonged to Bp. Humphreys' (see f. 1) (ff. 1-48, 61-155); a History of Owain Glyndŵr 'out of William Morris [Maurice] of Llansilin's book' (ff. 49-59); etc.
A letter, 7 September 1792, from Hy Hughes, Pencraig, to 'David' is pasted in at the end of the volume.

W. Parry or twr gwyn' by Goronwy Owen (pp. 85-89); a list of manuscripts at Hengwrt in 1738, including Dr John Davies's Dictionary (p. 100); 'Vocabula Gallica' (pp. 101-116); chronicles, including an account of the British Princes by Bishop Humphreys (pp. 117-140) and a copy of 'Llyfr W. A seventeenth-century merchant's account-book for miscellaneous groceries and draperies supplied to persons mainly in Denbighshire, 1662-1687 (pp. 1-76). The remainder of the volume contains copies of Welsh poems in strict and free metres, a copy of Areth Wgon, and a few recipes (pp. 77-190, 193-194). The majority of the poems are in free metres, and among a large number of authors who are represented the following have several poems to their names: Robert Klidro and Sion Prys Caerddynen. A table of contents is on pp. 173-174.

A volume in the hand of William Maurice of Cefn-y-braich, Llansilin, Denbighshire. The name 'Guil. Mauriciu[m]' appears on f. 4 verso and 'Guil. Mauricij' on f. 5. The entry on f. 4 verso, which reads '[ ] Brit. Gram[m]atica, ex Autographo [memb]ranaceo fidelitur transcript per Guil. Mauriciu[m] Lansilinensem tunc Studij Antiq. Tironem. Ano. D[omi]ni 1639. Aet: 19.', not only gives Maurice's age and an idea of his year of birth, which was not previously known, but also links the manuscript with item number 38 in a list of manuscripts at Wynnstay in Angharad Llwyd's 'Catalogue of Welsh manuscripts, etc. in North Wales', Transactions of the Cymmrodorion... 2.1 (1828), 36-58 (p. 53). A note added on f. 20 verso reads 'Y nawed dydd ar higain /o/fis Ionawr pann oedd oed Crist mil a chwechant a phedwar ar ddeg a rhigain y llosgodd dâs eithin Curn Foelfre gann dân or awyr' and also links the manuscript to the Llansilin area, the hill Gyrn Foelfre being just over a mile from Cefn-y-braich. The ink throughout is heavy dark brown ink, which is so characteristic of William Maurice's transcriptions. This is interspersed with red ink, especially when citing literary quotations as examples (ff. 31 verso-51, 53-57). A note in the hand of William Maurice (f. 57), incomplete because of fire damage, suggests that the manuscript was copied from a manuscript borrowed from '[ ] Siôn'. This may well be a reference to Richard ap Siôn of Sgorlegan, Llangynhafal (fl. 1578-1611), who is known to have transcribed copies of the bardic grammars [Peniarth MSS 159-160]. The original text probably measured 140 x 190 mm.; the text was arranged in two columns, each 90 mm. wide; most of the right hand column (recto) and left hand column (verso) has been lost as a result of the fire.
The manuscript contains the following: 'Llyma ddosbarth Edyrn dafod avr' (ff. 5-10 verso); 'Llyma ddechrav dosbarth y pvmp llyfr cerddwriaeth cerdd dafawd' (ff. 11-20 verso); 'pa sawl rhan y sydd o ymadrodd' (ff. 21-40 verso); 'Bellach yr ysbyswn am y pedwar messvr ar vgain cerdd dafawd' (ff. 41-54 verso); 'Bellach yr ysbyswnn am ba fodd a pha ddelw y dyleir moli pob gradd' (ff. 55-59); two verses of poetry, one of which is attributed to Huw ab Robert (f. 59 verso). A discussion of the texts contained in the manuscript is contained in the volume Gramadegau'r Penceirddiaid, ed. by G. J. Williams & E. J. Jones (Caerdydd, 1934)

A seventeenth-century manuscript containing memoranda relating to the Lloyd family of Llwydiarth, Llanerchymedd, Anglesey, and poems and prose extracts in Welsh, English and Latin. Some of the memorande are ascribed to David Lloyd (1576-1651) of Llwydiarth, his son Montague Lloyd (b. 1612), and Montague's children Hugh Lloyd (1649-1674) and Jane Lloyd (b. 1653). The Welsh poems include cywyddau, englynion, dyriau and ballads by John Gruffydd, Hugh Bulkley'r Gwydd, Robert Thomas, Evan Thomas, John Tuder and Ficker Llanymddyfri; one of the ballads commemorates the victory of the Dutch over the Spaniards in the Battle of the Downs, 1639 (ff. 35-36 verso). Several of the poems were transcribed by Hugh Lloyd in 1670.

A seventeenth-century manuscript in several hands, containing englynion, cywyddau, carolau, dyriau and other poems in free metre in Welsh and English. The following are some of the poets represented: Tudur Aled, Sion Tuder, Gytto'r Glyn, John Brwynog, Thomas Powel, Robert ap Hugh Delyniawr, Rowland Vaughan, Hugh and John Kenricke, Syr Hugh David o Sir Henford, Syr Hugh Roberts, Robin Ddu and Ficker Llan ddyfri. Among the poems in free are 'Ymddiddanen rhwng Mr. John Gruffyth a Richard Boulkley' (ff. 45-46 verso), a second poem on a similar theme (ff. 19 verso-20), published as 'Ymddiddan rhwng Mr. John Griffith, Llanddyfnan, a'i ewythr Mr. Bwlclai, yn 1647' in Hen Gerddi Gwleidyddol 1588-1660, Cymdeithas Llen Cymru 2 (Cardiff, 1901), pp. 16-18; and a copy of 'Karol y wraig o ganan' (ff. 80-81 verso) which differs slightly from that published in Casgliad o Hanes-Gerddi Cymraeg, Cymdeithas Llen Cymru 4 (Cardiff, 1903), pp. 11-15.

A copy of Siôn Dafydd Rhys, Cambrobrytannicæ Cymraecæve Lingvae Institvtiones et Rvdimenta... (London: Thomas Orwin, 1592, ESTC S115912), with manuscript additions in a number of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century hands throughout the volume and on the back fly-leaves, including Welsh verse in strict and free metre on pp. 98, 151, 196, 200 and 308-309, and 'pedwar mesir arhigain Cerdd Dant', 'y pedwar mesir arhugain Cerdd dafod' and 'y saith fesur ar hugain, ne'r saith fesurau [Cerdd Dant]' on pp. 305-307, together with a drawing of a Welsh triple harp and a diagram illustrating the tuning of its three sets of strings on p. 308.
The Welsh verses on p. 98 are probably in the hand of Robert Lloyd, whose name occurs on pp. 95, 98 and 157, and those on pp. 196 and 200 in the hand of Ffoulk Edwardes, whose name occurs on p. 156. The eighteenth-century hand which added the dates to poems on pp. 45, 164, 181, 183, 184, 190 and 248 probably also copied the verses on pp. 151, 248 and the texts on pp. 305-309.
