Watkins relating to educational issues and Coleg Harlech, 1926-1955; correspondence concerning BBT's work with UNESCO, 1954-1962; miscellaneous correspondence, 1948-1976; addresses and speech notes, 1949-1977; pamphlets, offprints and articles, 1941-1973; research notes on regions and towns of Wales during the 18th and 19th centuries; circulars, articles, reports, etc. relating to education and educational bodies in Wales, 1942-1975, to UNESCO, 1946-1958, and to public and cultural bodies such as the Welsh Language Council, ITA and the Rural Development Board, 1965-1973; McNair Report on the Training of Teachers, 1942-3; memorials, tributes and obituaries of other educationalists; and miscellaneous press cuttings and notes. The archive also includes a collection of sermon notes and exercise books of his grandfather, the Rev. Benjamin Thomas, (1838-1913), a Baptist minister in Ystrad Rhondda, Glamorgan.

A scrap-book inferentially compiled by John Lloyd Jones ('Clwydwenfro'; 1835-1919) containing press cuttings and a few manuscript items. Some of the cuttings are dated within the 1850s-1870s and among the more interesting titles are 'Hynodion Cwm Rhondda .... Testyn Cystadleuol Eisteddfod y Porth, Nadolig, 1861'; 'Collegiate and University Education in Wales'; 'Llythyr oddiwrth y Parch. Morris Phillips, Cenhadwr i India'; 'Teyrnged i Goffadwriaeth Ioan Pedr'; 'Beirniadaeth ar Gyfansoddiadau Barddonol Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Aberdar, Awst 1861'; 'Llangollen Great National Eisteddfod' [1858]; 'Y Ffrwydriad yn Abercarn'; 'Sketches of Cardiff Preachers'; etc. The manuscript material comprises a tale entitled 'The Bride of Santa Croce', 19 November 1856, described in an annotation by J. Ll. James as 'the composition of the late John Griffith Davies (son of the Rev. J. Davies ['Siôn Gymro'], Glandwr, Pembrokeshire) who wrote it and sent it to John Lloyd James, then a student at Carmarthen College, that he might fill up the outline', and verses entitled 'Y Messiah', etc. addressed to John Ll. James, Berllandawel, Llanglwydwen and annotated in the latter's hand 'J. G. Davies, Yetwen, pan yn Narberth', etc. The outer upper cover is inscribed, in the hand of J. H. Davies, 'Articles and poetry from Cyfaill y Werin and other papers'.

Thomas on political matters such as working conditions in the mining industry, education, church disestablishment, and the temperance movement, 1891-1910 (mainly 1891-1895); drafts and copies of letters from D. A. Thomas on similar subjects, 1891-1895; miscellaneous letters, 1893-1895; subject files, 1874-1917, on the coal industry, including the Cambrian Navigation Collieries, the Mining Association of Great Britain, the South Wales Liberal Federation, temperance and disestablishment; scrapbooks of press cuttings, 1894-1927, relating to Cymru Fydd, D.A Thomas, Merthyr politics and Keir Hardie, the Lusitania, and Lady Rhondda; miscellaneous items, 1897-1934, including genealogical material and congratulatory addresses to D.A.T.; circulars and memoranda.

The file comprises a publication entitled "The place of Welsh and English in the Schools of Wales; Summary Report by the Central Advisory Council for Education (Wales) = Lle'r Gymraeg a'r Saesneg yn Ysgolion Cymru: Crynodeb o Adroddiad y Cyngor Canol ar Addysg (Cymru), 1953 and a programme for a conference entitled "Y Gymraeg Cyfrwng y Dyfodol" held at the University College of North Wales, Bangor in 1985.

Press cuttings relating to Wales and Welsh culture, such as religion, politics, literature, music, education, St. David's Day celebrations and the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, individuals, and the National Library of Wales [1895]-[1939].

The file comprises letters reflecting the wide range of functions and events which Lady White attended and the large number of committees and public bodies with which she was associated. There are particularly interesting and revealing letters relating to the problems which faced the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology, University College, Cardiff, and Coleg Harlech. Several of the correspondents write appreciatively in response to a documentary programme entitled The Baroness broadcast on BBC2 television during June 1988. The correspondents include Eric, Lord Ashby, 1988, James Callaghan, 1988, Gwilym, Lord Prys-Davies, 1988, Cledwyn Hughes, Lord Cledwyn of Penrhos, 1988, Barry Jones MP, 1988, Principal Robert Steel, 1988, and David, Lord Gibson Watt, 1988.

The file comprises letters again reflecting Lady White's many activities and interests. There are many letters on educational matters, notably concerning the new University of Wales, Cardiff, formed by the merger of two university colleges. The correspondents include Lord Heycock.

The file consists of the Parliamentary Debates of sittings of the Welsh Grand Committee and other official publications, discussing education, rural development, roads and communications, agriculture, proposals for local government re-organisation, the Welsh economy and the Welsh Council.

Stray items relating to Major Edgar Jones (1868-1953), father of Gareth Vaughan Jones, and headmaster of the Barry Boys' County School from 1899 until his retirement in 1933. They include a small quantity of correspondence on a wide range of subjects, including letters from Gwilym Davies, undated; Sir Owen M. Edwards, 1916; W. Goscombe John, 1952; Dr Thomas Jones CH, 1925, 1947, 1950, 1951 and 1952 (many referring to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth); and Sir John Edward Lloyd, 1929 (relating to the Welsh Language Society). Many of the letters refer to educational themes. There are also two letters, both dated 1953, from Major Edgar Jones to his daughter Eirian Lewis, mother of Dr Siriol Colley. There are also some tributes to Major Jones upon his death in 1953.
