Italian tour journal

An incomplete journal describing part of a tour of Italy, 12 October-9 December [1822] (watermark 1813); the writer is unknown but does not appear to be Thomas Prior.
The journal begins in Fiorenz[u]ola [d'Arda], 12 October, with the writer and his party then moving on to Parma (ff. 1 verso-2), Bologna (f. 2 recto-verso), Florence (ff. 3 verso-5 verso), Terni (ff. 7 verso-8), Rome, 5-17 November (ff. 10-11) and Naples (ff. 13 verso), arriving on 23 November. The volume ends with an account of an ascent of Vesuvius on 9 December (ff. 14-16), including a sketch of the mountain (f. 15).

This is an album of postcards of principal tourist attractions from all over Italy. Most are postally unused. Those postally used are addressed to Miss Rees, Berthlwyd, Blaenffos Pembs by 'John' ca.1921

(ff. 349-66 verso); De Angelis (ff. 367-78 verso). All very likely copied by a student at Rome. None of de Lugo's works were printed until 1631.

Specimens of initial capital letters taken from illuminated manuscripts and copies of initials and decoration from illuminated manuscripts in the British Museum and in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Among the originals are a leaf from a Graduale, containing a portion of the Mass for the Nativity of St John Baptist (German, XV cent.); a leaf from the Decretum of Gratian (Low Counties, late XII cent.); one leaf and twenty-six initials from a manuscript of the Enarrationes in Psalmos of St Augustine (probably Bohemian, under strong Italian influence, late XIV cent.); a leaf from a Book of Hours (Italian, late XV cent.); and fragments from a choir-book, in Latin, with music (Italian, late XV cent.).

A collection of vocal music, with accompaniment for the guitar, by various composers, from an edition printed at Naples by Luigi Marescalchi.
