History

The Rev. E. K. (Evan Kenffig) Jones (1863-1950) was a staunch Baptist minister and social and educational reformer. He was born at Bryn Du, Kenfig Hill, Glamorgan, and was educated at Pontypool Baptist College and University College Cardiff. He was ordained at Merthyr Vale, Glamorgan, in 1889, before moving to Brymbo, Denbighshire, in 1891, and to Cefnmawr, Denbighshire, in 1913. He was secretary of the Denbigh, Flint, and Merioneth Association, president of the Baptist Union of Wales in 1928, and President of the Baptist Missionary Society in 1934. He was a member of the Wrexham Board of Guardians and a prominent member of the Denbighshire Education Committee. His main literary works included The Baptists of Wales and Ministerial Education (1902), Y Beibl a Dirwest (1906), A Short Sketch of the History of the Baptist Church in Llanidloes(1908), and Hanes Cymdeithas Genhadol y Bedyddwyr (1944). He retired in 1934 and died in 1950.
