Material relating to a broad range of issues in the coal mining industry such as fuel efficiency, railway rates on coal, coal dust experiments, education and training, and nationalisation of the coal industry. Material comprises minutes of proceedings at a deputation from the Mining Association of Great Britain (MAGB) to the Home Secretary, 1896; minutes of proceedings of MAGB Central Committee meetings with the Miners' Federation of Great Britain, 1923-6; reports of the Coal Industry Joint Fuel Efficiency Committee, and other reports, including a major report and supplementary notes by the Association's chairman, Robert Foot, "A Plan for Coal" concerning the nationalisation of the coal industry, 1944-7; and an historical review of mining compiled to supplement an exhibit of models at the Wembley Coal Mine, 1924.
