Title deeds mainly relating to properties in the township of Mathrafal [parish of Llangynyw], Montgomeryshire, 1582-1697. Most of the deeds concern properties purchased by Evan Meredith, which descended to his son David Evans. They include the marriage settlements of David Deckyn and Jane vch Thomas ap Ieuan 1582, and of John Deacon the younger and Alice vch Robert Taylor, 1624; a deed of sale by John Deacon and family to Evan Meredith of messuages in Mathrafal and Cynhinfa, including a walk mill, 1640; a mortgage by David Evans to Thomas Richards of a ‘Meas-place’ or ancient tenement called Tomkis Tenement and lands (named) in the township of Mathrafal, 1690, which had been conveyed [c. 1650] by Thomas Benion and Sara his wife to Evan Meredith, dec.; a mortgage by Thomas Richards to John Edwards of ?Roxington, Salop, as security for the payment of arrears of rent on a capital messuage in Llannerchrochwel, 1695; an assignment of the mortgage of Tomkis Tenement and its lands by Thomas Richards, then of Moedog, to John Harris of Stretton, Salop, 1697; and a mortgage by John Harris (who had purchased the property from the heir of David Evans) as security for the payment of £150 due to Thomas Richards, 1697. Other evidence of the debts of David Evans comprise an assignment in 1677 of premises in Hirnant and Trefedryd which he had previously mortgaged to David Charles; and assignments of two judgements obtained against him, 1691 and 1694. The file also contains a conveyance by Henry Smith of Yockleton, Salop, to William Harries of Alberbury, of Whittiniacks Coppys and the Banckcroft, Yockleton, 1610.
