Iron Forge letter book,

A business letter book, slightly mutilated, of D[avid] M[organ], Glanvread [parish of Llanfihangel Genau'r-glyn, Cardiganshire], 28 February 1781-10 January 1786, almost entirely relating to the operation of the writer's iron forge [known in modern times as 'Ffatri Forge'], with copious references to the purchase of pig iron, of castings and of timber, to the remittance of bills, and to the sale and shipment of iron bars and bark. There are also references to the repair of the forge, the detention in Dublin of the master of the sloop Royal George of Aberystwyth belonging to Edward Humphreys and the writer, to the payment of rents, and to the Cardigan county and boroughs parliamentary election of 1784. Rental of Strata Florida,

A nineteenth century translation of a rental, 1577, of the lands of the dissolved monastery of Strata Florida, Cardiganshire, the original document being Crosswood I, 75. The rental contains details of leases, 1485- , giving tenants, rents, heriots, services, etc. for the granges of Pennarth, Cwmustoith, Henhynock and Morva Mawr, Blaynayron, Meveneth and Havodwen. There are also a few later memoranda, 1581-91.

Rentals,

Annual rentals, and one half-yearly rental, of the Rhosybedw estate, 1828- 1848, with accompanying statements of account of David Davies with Mrs. Anne Davies, Llwyn (for the period 1847-1848 with her executor, the Reverend R[ichard] Jones). Rentals of the Llwyn estate also are included for the years 1843-1848. A holograph letter from Anne Davies to D[avid] Davies, 1839, is attached to the rental for 1839.

Strata Florida rent roll,

A notebook containing extracts transcribed by J. H. Davies (a) 'from a Translation of Rent Roll for the Manors &c of the monastery of Strata Florida' [see Cwrtmawr MS 873D] and (b) from a copy of the defendant's answer, 14 May 1743, in a lawsuit between Dorothy, Lady Lisburne, and Wilmot (Vaughan), Viscount Lisburne, containing lists of rents and tenants' names. The original of (b) is inserted loose in the notebook (pp. 1-2 wanting) and there is also a letter to J. H. Davies from Herbert M. Vaughan, Llangoedmore, Cardigan, who was the owner, it seems, of the document. Also within the notebook are observations by S. M. P[owell] headed 'Pant. Tregaron' and beginning 'Some things struck Mr Lloyd and myself in reading your notes.'.

A volume comprising a rental, 1833-1847, of the Trewern estate in the counties of Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire (ff. 1-40 verso) together with an index (f. 103); copy estate correspondence, 1847-1856 (ff. 42-50 verso); and informations and complaints taken by John Thomas Beynon at meetings of the petty sessions in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, 1848-55 (inverted text ff. 94-99 verso).
