A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing a thumb-nail alphabetical index of first lines of the poetry of Jonathan Hughes (1721-1805), Llangollen, taken almost entirely from the poet's Bardd a Byrddau (Mwythig, 1778).

A composite notebook labelled 'Gwaith Wiliam Elias, &c.' containing transcripts by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of 'englynion', 'cywyddau', etc. largely by or relating to William Elias (1708-87) [Plas-y-glyn, Llanfwrog, Anglesey]. The poets represented in addition to William Elias are D(afydd) Parry, Michael Prichard, J. R. ('Englynion i annerch Owen Gruffydd', etc.), Ed. Morus, Owen Gruffydd and Thomas Edwards ('Cywydd Marwnad i'r Canmoladwy a'r Anrhydeddus ddiweddar William Elias'). There is also a note on Peniarth MS 201 ('Allan o Ysgriflyfr Peniarth [i.e. Hengwrt]. -Rhif 188'). Loose papers comprise a copy of the gravestone inscription of William Elias and his wife, 'Cerdd i Ddiolch i Fachgen o Landwrog am Fenthyg Llyfr Notes', together with some 'englynion' (in pencil), and a leaf from Eurgrawn Mon, 1825, pp. 14[7]-8 (see The Letters of Goronwy Owen, ed. J. H. Davies (Cardiff, 1924), pp. 203-4). Another loose item, a folio from an eighteenth century manuscript, has been restored to its place at the beginning of Wynnstay MS 7.

A scrap-book compiled by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') containing poetry in strict and free metres by poets from Caernarfonshire. Among the poets represented in the volume are Gwilym Ddu (o) Arfon (fl. c. 1280-1320), David Jones ('Dewi Fardd'), Trefriw, Hugh Evans ('Hywel Eryri'), Griffith Williams, Penmaenmawr, John (Ioan) Rowland(s), Pentir, William Owen ('Gwilym Ddu Glan Hafren'), [John Roberts] 'Sion Lleyn', Hugh Jones, Pen-y-groes, Llanwnda, Morris Roberts ('Eos Llyfnwy'), Llanllyfni, John Jones ('Ioan Glan Cledr'), Caernarvon, W[illiam] M[orris] Hughes ('Gwawdrydd'), Bangor, [G. M. Some of the poems are in the hand of the compiler but the majority are in the form of cuttings, largely from the second and third quarters of the nineteenth century, with annotations from printed almanacs and from Yr Eurgrawn Wesleyaidd, Eurgrawn Môn, Goleuad Cymru, Seren Gomer, Y Drysorfa, Yr Haul, Yr Amserau, Yr Herald Cymraeg, Yr Arweinydd, Y Cyfaill Eglwysig, Y Gwyliedydd, etc. The volume is bound uniformly with Cwrtmawr MS 753 and the spine and title-page are lettered 'Gweithiau Beirdd Sir Gaernarfon'.

A volume entitled 'Gweithiau Lewis Morris. Llywelyn Ddu o Fôn', being transcripts and extracts made by J. H. Davies, c. 1902, from manuscripts in the British Museum and the National Library of Wales. The collection also contains poetry in strict and free metres by Sion Tomas Owen ('y Gwehydd o Fodedern'), Michael Prichard ('mab chochydd [sic] Llanllyfni'), Sion Rhydderch, Rhist. Roberts ('clochydd Llanddeusant'), Huw Huws ('o Lwydiarth Esgob ym Mon'), and W. Wynn; 'Rhybudd i Wenno [Translation of Darby & Joan]' by Roger Edwards ('offeiriad Llanaber ym Meirionydd'); a calendar of the Lewis Morris MS designated NLW MS 604; and 'Young Mends the Clothier's Sermon', a satire by Lewis Morris on Methodist preachers, from NLW MS 67, pp. 51-70. Inset is a reduced photograph of pp. 32-3 of NLW MS 604.

A manuscript index to J. H. Davies (ed.), The Letters of Lewis, Richard, William and John Morris of Anglesey (Morrisiaid Môn) (Aberystwyth, 1907-9) compiled for J. H. Davies by T. Vaughan Roberts, London and completed in 1911. The general index (420 pp.) is followed by lists of 'Words and phrases characteristic of the Morrises or illustrating forms commonly used by them' and 'Books, Pamphlets, Manuscripts & Poems referred to', references to 'Trades & Professions', and a number of corrections. Other items ('Removed from the manuscript before it was sent to Mr Jenkin James, January 7, 1931') consist of a letter, 1911, from the compiler, T. Vaughan Roberts to J. H. Davies, and a letter, 1902, from John Ballinger, Cardiff to J. H. Davies enclosing notes and items of verse (mainly by Lewis Morris) copied by J. Ifano Jones from 'an imperfect copy of Dr John Davies's Dictionary, 1632, once the property of Lewis Morris' and from copies of [Huw Jones], Diddanwch Teuluaidd (Llundain, 1763) which belonged to John William Prichard, Plas-y-brain and Nicholas Bennett respectively.

An imperfect copy, completed in manuscript by J. H. Davies, of William Roberts (O Lanor yn Llyn), Interlude Morgan y Gogrwr ar Gariadogs Neu Ffrewyll y Methodistiaid ...(Mwythig. Argraphwyd gan R. Lathrob .... 1745). Bound in at the end of the volume is a transcript by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') of 'Englynion o waith [William Roberts] Clochydd Llannor i'r gau athrawon neu'r pregethwyr sydd yn y Bala yn pregethu ag mewn llawer o fanne eraill' (cf Cwrtmawr MS 226, 28-31). There are some notes by J. H. Davies on the flyleaf.

A composite volume lettered on the spine 'Llenorion Lleyn ac Eifionydd' and described in the old typewritten handlist of Cwrtmawr Manuscripts as 'Llyfr Cywyddau etc. R. Llys Padrig. etc. fol.' The first part is in an early nineteenth century hand or hands (watermarks 1803 and 1804) and contains a list of sheriffs for Caernarvonshire to 1796; a list of arms; and 'cywyddau', etc. by Rhisiart Cynwal, Gruffydd Phylip, Sion Dafydd Las o Nanau, Owen Gruffydd, Lewis Menai, Ieuan Tew, Sion Tudur, Sion Phylip, Edmwnd Prys, Ieuan Llwyd, Gruffydd Hafren and Watcin Clywedog. The remainder of the manuscript (from p. 56 to the end) is almost entirely of later date and is written in the autograph of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') and others; this section includes 'cywyddau', 'englynion', etc. by some of the poets already mentioned and by Ffoulk Wyn 'yn enw Owen Madryn y Crwner', Owain Waed Da, W[illiam] Llyn, Evan ap Tudur Penllyn, Howel ap Feinallt, Morys ap Ifan ap Einion o Lyn, Owain ap Llewelyn ap y Moel, Gruffydd Grug, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd o Fathafarn, Robin y prydydd bach, Huw Pennant, Sion Cain, Iolo Goch, Sion Brwynog (incomplete), Huw Llyn, Syr Dafydd Trefor, Ieuan ap Madog ap Dafydd, Tudur Penllyn, [Lewis Môn] (beginning only), Hugh ap Risiart ap Dd, Morys Dwyfech, Cadwaladr Gruffydd, Gruffydd Bodwrdda, Rowland Hugh, Lewis Glynn, Dafydd Namor [sic] o blwy Beddgelert, Howel Ceiriog, Wiliam Cynwal, D. A mutilated volume written in various late seventeenth and early eighteenth century hands containing 'carolau', a 'cywydd' and 'englynion' by Cadwalader Roberts (1685), Hugh Lewis, Hugh Moris, Rowland Vaughan, Moris Richard, Thomas Lloyd ('Ieanga'), Edward Rowland, Richard Abr[a]ham and Edward Moris, and anonymous poems, together with a copy of an acknowledgment, 1677, of a debt of £3 from Thomas Roberts of Penant [Melangell], Montgomeryshire, gent., to John Hughes of Peniarth, gent. On the fly-leaves at the beginning is an index of first lines of the 'carolau' and 'cywydd' compiled and written by J. H. Davies, and at the end a transcript by J. H. Davies of 'Englynion o fawl i Thomas Jones' by Cadwalad[r] Roberts. The volume is lettered 'Llyfr Cadwaladr Roberts 1676'.

A volume labelled 'Llyfr Cerddi William Morgan', being a collection largely of poetry compiled during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century by William Morgan (died 1728), Plassegwynio[n], Llanymawddwy, Merioneth. It contains 'Yr Eisteddfod ynghaerwys ... y 26 o fis May yn y nawfed flwyddyn o deyrnasiad y fre[n]hines Elizabeth ...' There are also copious additions on the blank pages and in the margins of the volume, including poetry by Cadwaladr ap Dewi and Dafudd Gryffydd ('ai Dychreuodd, John Llwyd ai diweddodd'); transcripts, 1721 and undated, of depositions and an incomplete lease touching properties in the township of Lowarch and in Lanerchvyda, Merioneth; undated accounts, e.g. 'Potatws a Count'; etc. There is an entry in the hand of 'Mair' [Richards, Darowen], 1853.

An account book, 1768-1774, kept by Rowland Huw, with an 'awdl: Godidowgrwydd Y Greadigaeth', by 'R. Huw neu Rod y Coed', 1795, 'cywydd: cwynfan Evan Evans o'r Bala yn ôl marwolaeth Jane Evans ei wraig'; and a poem by Rowland Huw 'oherwydd clwed Bachgenyn yn ei offrwm ei hun i'r Cythrael'.

A manuscript largely in the hand of Margaret Davies, Coetgae-du, Trawsfynydd, being a collection of 'cywyddau', a few 'awdlau', several 'englynion', and a few 'cerddi' and other poems in free metres. The collection was compiled probably during the period 1760-62, and the poets represented in the volume are Rice Jones ('or blaene'), Hugh Evans, Abram Evan, Thos. The volume also includes a transcript based on 'Authorum Britannicorum nomina & quando floruerint' from John Davies: Antiquae Linguae Britannicae ... Dictionarium Duplex ... (Londini, 1632), and extensive elaborate calligraphic exercises partly in the form of transcripts of documents associated with the name of Griffith Vaughan of Pool [Montgomeryshire], 1647 and undated. Many of the pages containing calligraphic exercises, as in the case of some of the manuscripts of John Jones, ?Gellifydy, are damaged on account of the corrosive nature of the ink used by the scribe.
