A selection of cywyddau, awdlau and metrical areithiau of Welsh bards who flourished from the middle of the thirteenth to the end of the sixteenth century, transcribed, mainly from manuscripts preserved in his own family, by John Jones, Gellilyfdy (c. 1585-1657/8). The transcriber describes his work in this way: ... llyma lyfr o gywydde ag Odlev ag Araethev o waith amrafaelion feirdd a phrydyddion ag o amrafaelion ysgrifenyddion y rhai oll a gynhillis i gyd ag ai hysgrifennis yn un llyfr allan o hen lyfrev kandrell yr hai a vvessynt lyfrev im taid Sion ap Wiliam ap ap [sic] Sion ap Dd ap Ithel Vychan ... . John Jones, according to his usual practice, supplied tables of incipits, subjects and authors. At the end of the manuscript the transcriber has added variant readings and some notes on the poems contained in the collection. Additions in square brackets are in the hand of Lewis Morris (1701-1765), who made a transcript of the manuscript in 1727.

A volume, compiled [19 cent., first half], containing a number of homilies on moral and religious topics by an unidentified Quaker (inside front cover-f. 19); together with extracts from the manuscripts of John Kelsall, Dolobran, Montgomeryshire, comprising brief accounts, 1701-1712, of meetings of the Society of Friends, including those held at Dolobran and yearly meetings of the Society in Wales (ff. 19 verso-27).

A small, quarto volume (86 ff., with ff. 3 verso, 8 verso, II, 14 verso, 15, 16, 24 verso, 86 verso, blank), containing a variant copy of the section or volume (No. 5) of John Leland's manuscript account of his 'Itinerary', which deals largely with his travels through parts of Wales. The whole volume is reputedly in the hand of Sir Simon Archer (Warwickshire antiquary), but ff. 4-24 are written in a much more cramped, irregular style than the remainder of the work, and they contain a number of corrections, particularly of place-names. A notable omission from the present text are the notes on Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, arid part of Shropshire, which appear in the original account [see Hearne: op. Cit., pp. 21-31 (see note below)]. On one of the fly-leaves are two manuscript notes, the first [by J. O. Halliwell Phillipps], stating that the work 'is valuable as supplying several lacunae in the printed edition', and the second, by T[homas] C. A[rcher], expressing the opinion that 'this MS. Itinerary was, in great part at least, compiled, as well as written, by Sir Simon Archer'. From a comparison with the published editions of the work, however, it does not appear that these claims can be substantiated. The volume is lettered on the spine '5 . . . Leland's Itinerary through Wales'. Inset is a holograph letter from Sy[mon] Archer, from Tanworth, to Thomas Habington, April 1638, requesting the recipient's aid in obtaining information regarding 'Sir Lewes Cliffordes father, knight of the garter in Richard the secondes tyme'.

Documents collected by Col. Sir John Conway Lloyd, including over a thousand deeds, 1323-1870, relating to properties in the counties of Brecon, Glamorgan, Hereford, Monmouth, Radnor, Cardigan, Carmarthen, Gloucester, and London; together with various documents, including letters and papers relating to the Lloyd family and other estates. In addition, the archive consists of deeds and documents, 1588-1864, mainly of industrial interest accumulated by John Lloyd (1833-1915), pertaining to the New Weare ironworks, Goodrich, Hereford; the Hirwaun ironworks; the Beaufort Iron Company, the Clydach ironworks; the Dowlais Iron Company; and the Bute Works. A substantial group of Dinas Estate records has been transferred to the Maybery Collection.
