Seventy-two letters, mainly from Maurice James (1916-1968) to his mother in Bala, co. Merioneth, describing his tour of Canada, the United States of America and Mexico with a friend, Anthony S. Brennan of Huddersfield, between May 1957 and August 1958. The tour included a six-month stay at Cecil Lake, British Columbia, where Maurice James served as headmaster of the local school during the winter of 1957. Also included (ff. i-xiii) are introductory notes and a list of the letters, compiled by D. Tecwyn Lloyd.

Six holograph letters from [Sir] W[illiam] Jones [jurist and orientalist] to ?Rich[ar]d Johnson, 1784-[1787] and undated (personal and domestic matters, points of Indian botanical interest, the writer's hymn to [the Hindu goddess] Sereswaty, his intention of composing eighteen such hymns [to various Hindu gods and goddesses] including Indra and Lacshmy, his 'Discourse on the Arabs' [delivered to the Bengal Asiatic Society, 1787]). Both the writer and recipient were resident in India.

Typescript copies, with manuscript corrections and additions, of an Introduction and forty-seven 'Letters from Spain', written by Griffith Hartwell Jones to record his experiences and impressions during a visit to the Spanish Peninsula in the winter of 1920-1921.

Some sixty letters, 1901-1902, from Lieutenant Thomas Lewis Prichard, first Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers, South Africa Field Force, to his parents, the Rev. and Mrs Thomas Prichard, Llanbadrig Vicarage, Anglesey. Written mostly from South Africa, they describe his experiences on active service during the South African War, 1901-1902, including accounts of skirmishes with the Boers and the progress towards peace (ff. 1-121). Also included are four letters, 1914, relating to his service in France, where he died on 11 November 1914 (ff. 122-129).
