Fifteen letters, 1816-28, written by William Michell (ca. 1774-1829), vicar of Llantrisant, co. Glamorgan, to his father Dr John Michell, vicar of Fairford, co. Gloucester (4), his mother (10), and his brother Major Edward T. Michell (1), containing mainly news and gossip about the gentry of counties Brecon and Glamorgan, in whose society he moved; included in the last letter is a survey, 1828, of the Michell family estate in Huish Episcopi, co. Somerset.

(the execution of the Queen's commission in the matter of encroachments); from H. Evans from Brasenose [College, Oxford], 17 July ---, to Mr. Jhon Wynne at Gwedr (or at Conway in the Sessions) (the writer's ill-treatment by Mr. Wy ... of Clynocke, together with an eulogy in Latin entitled 'Carmen amoris ad amantissimum Juvenem et fidelissimum amicum Jo. Wynne, authore amore. H.E.') (mutilated); and from Henry Herbert, 4th baron Herbert of Chirbury, from Badminton, 3/13 December, [16]81, to 'Monsieur le Chevalier [Sir Richard] Bulstrode, Resident pour sa Majesté de la grande Bretagne, a Bruxelles' (the receipt of a letter and of answers to the enclosed, hopes of 'some quiet' in Flanders, 'the Luxembourg affaire', intelligences of action with the French).

S.] Ellis) (illustrations for G. T. Clark: Mediaeval Military Architecture in England (London, 1884), etc.); a letter, 1901, from F. S. Coleman, The Rectory, Barwick-in-Elmet, Leeds, to [A. S.] Ellis (the writer's archaeological studies); and a letter, 1903, from W. H. St. John Hope, Society of Antiquaries of London, to [A. S. Ellis] (requesting plans of Richmond Castle and Chepstow Castle).

A group of letters, largely relating to genealogy, heraldry, etc., which include: from Richard Llwyd ('Bard of Snowdon') to Sir William Betham, Herald's College, Dublin, 1814; Robert Roberts, Holyhead to Sir Joshua Meredyth, Dublin, 1814; and W. W. E. Wynne of Peniarth to an unnamed recipient, 1828. The pedigrees mentioned include those of the Powell family of Stanage Park, Radnorshire and of W. W. E. Wynne, Peniarth.

Fifteen letters, 1844-9, from John Henry Cliffe (d. 1867), author of Notes and Recollections of an Angler: rambles among the mountains, valleys and solitudes of Wales ... (London, 1860), to his father W[astrell Brisco] Cliffe and brother Charles Frederick Cliffe (d. 1851), editor of the Gloucestershire Chronicle and author of The Book of North Wales ... (London, 1850), mostly describing his fishing holidays in counties Merioneth and Caernarfon; together with a letter, 1846, from Charles Frederick Cliffe to his father, and two letters from W. B. Cliffe to his sons Frederick, 1844, and Henry, 1847.

A group of holograph letters:- one from Jos[eph] Stennett (1663-1713; Seventh-Day Baptist) from London, to [his daughter-in-law?], 29 July, 1707; one from Jo[hn] Evans (c. 1680-1730; Congregational minister at Wrexham, etc.) from London, to ----, 28 August, [1]707; two from Jos[eph] Stennett (1692-1748; Baptist minister), the one from Exeter to [the Reverend] Thomas Holder, Leominster, 25 September, 1721 (the writer's ordination at Exeter), and the other from Fetter Lane [London] to Daniel Booth in Devonshire Square, 8 February, 1748/9; one from Samuel Stennett (1728-95; Baptist minister) from London, to the Reverend Benj[amin] Francis at Horsley, near Hampton, Gloucestershire, 9 August, 1768 (a 'call' to Goodman's Fields church, etc.); and eleven from [Sir] W[illiam] Jones (1746-94; orientalist) from Calcutta, etc., largely to Richard Johnson, 1773-90 and undated (the impeachment of Warren Hastings, etc.).

Three holograph letters:- from William Herbert, 2nd marquis of Powis, to ----, [174-]; John Parry ('Bardd Alaw') to the editor of The Literary Gazette, [18]22, mentioning that Mrs Hemans has written some fine words for the writer, etc.; and [Sir] Lewis Morris [of Penbryn, Carmarthenshire] to Otto Goldschmidt, [18]98 (comments on music composed by the recipient to verses by the writer).

Three holograph letters:- from [Philip Henry] to his son Mr. Matthew Henry, near the Sugar-House in Chester, 1689 (a collection for the relief of George Speak, a proposed fast for Ireland, personal); from John Flamstead, first astronomer royal, to [William Lloyd, bishop of St. Asaph], undated (the calculation of eclipses) (mutilated); and from [Thomas Tenison], archbishop of Canterbury, to [bishop William Lloyd], 1702 (a fixed allowance for Mr. Peters, the collation of mandates); together with copious endorsements in the hand of bishop William Lloyd.

Letters and papers, including a petition, circa 1722, from Sir John Philipps suggesting the preferment of Owen Philipps to the rectory of Walwins Castle, Pembrokeshire, a petition, 1745, signed by Sir John Philipps, Thomas Carew, Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, and George Heathcote, to the members of the House of Commons, requesting their attendance at the House on January 16, 1746, and a Return of the number of Men that can be contained, in the Different Towns in the Counties of Carnarvon, Anglesea, Montgomery, Merioneth and Denbigh under the superintendance of Major Genl. Evans, Llangoedmore, 1853 (the behaviour of 'an unworthy and notorious Parishioner' of the recipient's, etc.) (with a draft letter endorsed relating to tithe arrears), and J. Lewis, Yspytty, Wrexham, 1856 (the freight of a heifer from Swansea to Liverpool); an incomplete copy of a letter written from Nevern Vicarage, 1858 ('the Tryddyn business') (with stanzas of Welsh hymns endorsed); an estimate by Charles Davies, architect, 1852, of the repairs to be done to the Parsonage House of Nevern, with other buildings, fences, etc., on the glebe; etc.

Hindley & Sons [1871] (an order for chintz for Pixton Park, Dulverton); Lady Mary Windsor Clive, St. Fagans Castle, Cardiff, to Messrs. Hindley [& Sons], 1872; Lady Elizabeth Herbert [wife of Sidney Herbert, 1st baron Herbert of Lea, P.C.], to Messrs.
